RE: Apple Music and Spotify
Hi Scott, It is my understanding that the reason why you can't buy books from the Audible app is because if this were possible Audible (Amazon) would have to pay Apple as it would be considered to be an in-app purchase. I'm not saying that this necessarily is an excuse, I'm sure Apple could allow the purchase of digital content and somehow differentiate this from other in-app purchases. As for opening up the SIRI API for apps like Audible or other music streaming services that is in my view just a matter of time. Also, as for Apple Music on other platforms, it may not work with the Amazon Echo, but it works beautifully with Sonos. Now Sonos just has to somehow make it possible to allow for SIRI input as well since of course inside the Sonos app tcontrolling Apple Music with SIRI is not possible. What I like most about Spotify is that the radio feature seems to work better, and I'm able to use it on all my devices: my PC at work, my iPhone, and my Echo Dot. Hi I don’t have the purpose to make an advertisement here but I want to state that the owners of a paypal account now have the possibility to have 60 days spotify premium for free and I did so. I have one question. Can it be that it is not possible with an iphone to create a new playlist. For my pc I have the windows os and NVDA and downloaded tthe web app spotify, it’s almost fully accessible and I managed to create my own playlists and give them names and thus I can add songs to these own lists with my iphone without any problems when using the context menu in the ios app but creating my own playlists with the phone doesn’t seem to work now or am I missing something? One thing that I like with Spotify is that if I choose not to have the premium version, I can still retain my playlists. With Apple Music, if I no longer keep my subscription, I will no longer have access to the music that I have grown to love. In fact, even the radio is unavailable. *sad* Sharonda On 8/20/16, Sieghard Weitzel wrote: > And one thing Spotify does not give you is SIRI control. RE: Apple Music and Spotify
It will be available for third party apps, but it is going to be restricted at least for now. Here is an excerpt from an article on 9to5 Mac: For iOS 10.0, the Siri API will only work with six kinds of application: ride booking (think Uber) Messaging Photo Search (find photos and videos in a particular app) Payments (‘Send $100 to John with SquareCash’) VoIP Calling (e.g: Skype) Workouts (for starting health and fitness activities) The experience for users should be great as long as you are wanting to use these types of third-party apps in Siri as Apple handles the complex voice understanding. Users must form questions with nouns like ‘WeChat’ to indicate they want to interact with a third-party app. The SiriKit response API's are flexible enough to allow these apps to reply with custom, rich, UI. Users will be able to complete their task inline to the Siri conversation interface; you don’t have to jump into an app. However, the way this system is structured it leaves a lot of apps shut out, in the cold. Out of the 2 million apps in the App Store, how many fall under the support of the six categories? This is the primary downside of the system Apple devised. Some major classes of application are not covered by the third-party Siri SDK which Siri is often used for: music apps, podcast apps, sport statistics, email, reminders and to-do lists and more. It’s unclear how this will be policed too: could an email app class itself as a text message app to slip into the Siri experience? This seems like a controversial area for App Review come September. In future versions of iOS, it is reasonable to expect Apple to expand the number of app types that can integrate with Siri. iOS 10.1 could easily add a couple new kinds of integration. However, will it expand into certain areas that it wants to dominate with first-party services? An obvious omission from the Siri iOS 10 implementation is third-party integration for media apps like music streaming. With iOS 10, Apple Music will be the only way to play audio via Siri. Apple probably loves this but for users of competing music services, there is no ability for developers to be able to add Siri integration. Apps like Spotify, Pandora and Google Pay Music are left in the cold. Apple could add a new music media type for Siri SDK in future but will they? Will they keep it closed to boost up its own $9.99 streaming service, Apple Music? This is an open question: we will have to wait and see how quickly Apple ramps the Siri SDK and expands the base of possible apps. For the public, Siri SDK launches with iOS 10 in the fall. Yes, it will be opened up for certain limited categories of apps to start with. I can't remember if music or video apps were in the list, but I don't think so. Maybe in the future. RE: Apple Music and Spotify
Hi, I’ve searched for some albums on AppleMusic and came up with nothing. Some of the albums were on Spotify. This happens infrequently. I used to have Spotify Premium, but canceled it when AppleMusic became available within Sonos. I’ve kept the Spotify account open within Sonos, so I can see when they have an album and AppleMusic doesn’t when I do a Search within Sonos. But, having no active Sonos account any more, I can’t access that. If I get to a point that I really want to listen to the music Spotify offers that AppleMusic appears to not, then I can always reactivate my Spotify Premium. But for now, I’m mostly satisfied with AppleMusic. RE: Apple Music and Spotify
Yes, high fives for Spodify, they've done a fabulous job on re-tooling! It is a treat to use especially on the IPhone. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of christopher hallsworth Sent: Friday, August 19, 2016 2:50 PM To: Viphone Subject: Apple Music and Spotify Hello everyone. While I am committed to Apple Music as am subscribed to the family plan, I’m sorry, but wow! Spotify is now completely accessible from what I can see. The interface is also no longer hard to use. Found out today that Spotify is RNIB’s app of the month so thought to check out the latest version and am amazed so far with the usability and accessibility of the app. Sure I used Spotify countless times before, and there was always something missing with the app. That seems to now be a thing of the past. As for membership, the free one will do. I can live with ads. Happy listening!!! -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list.
