RE: bluetooth earbud recommendations?

2017-02-01 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Ari,

Plantronics makes a bunch of single ear earpieces as well as stereo headphones.
Unfortunately not all of them are made equal. I had, at one point, bought a
rather expensive Plantronics Backbeat Sense (I think that is what it was
called) and even though it was a Bluetooth 4.0 or even 4.1 stereo headset and
it sounded super nice with music, it had such a bad lag that is was unuseable
with Voiceover. I think in the end you just have to trywhat works or buy
something that was recommended based on personal experience.

Sieghard

Sieghard, I'd love to have something like the Voyager Edge, but in a stereo
form factor. Now, that'd be just awesome! Do you know if the company who makes
the Voyager has released a stereo headset that has the Voyager Edge featureso,
and that is just as responsive as the Voyager Edge?

Thanks,
Ari

I have tried a bunch of different bluetooth earpieces, stereo headsets and
speakers, some expensive others not so and some with the latest bluetooth

it has Bluetooth 4.0 or 4.1 does not mean it is more responsive. One example
was the Plantronics Backbeat Sense I think it was called. A rather expensive,
very nice sounding stereo bluetooth headset. It has Bluetooth 4.0, but the lag
was so bad that is was unuseable with Voiceover. My 5-year old first generation
Outdoor Tech OT DJ Slims which aren't even available any more and which I
received as a sample at a trade show (they retailed for around $50 for a stereo
headset) use Bluetooth 2.1 and they are as responsive as it gets.
The Voyager Edge I would classify also int hat category, as responsive as it
gets because a bluetooth headset, earpiece or speaker without lag does not
exist at this point.
When you turn them on the voice of the headset says the remaining talk time
(max is 6 hours) and then it will say "Phone 1 connected". I also have it
paired to my Apple Watch, so it says "Phone 1 connected", then there is a beep
and almost instantly it goes on to say "Phone 2 Connected".
Then in the status bar of the iPhone it says "Headphones connected" and if you
swipe right once from there it will give you the battery level, just checked
and as the headset said "Talk time 5 hours" the status line display says
"Bluetooth battery 81%".
It works beautifully with my iPhone and Apple Watch, the switching is very
quick and if I am, for example, listening to a book on my phone and a
notification comes in on the watch I get the sound in the headset, the book
pauses at that point and a cople of seconds later it resumes playing the book.
The headset also senses if it's in your ear, if you are playing a book or
music it will pause when you take it out of your ear and resume when you put it
back and it has voice commands for when a phone call comes in, all I have to
say is "Answer" and it will pick up the call without me ever touching the
earpiece.
You can invoke SIRI and push and hold the little button on the boom for
play/pause.
Currently I think this is a much better option than the Airpods, yes, it is an
earpiece and not stereo earbuds, but it apparently works so much better with
Voiceover on an iPhone and Apple watch together. I tried out the Airpods and
they sound awesome, they are super small and light and I'd love to have a pair,
but until you can control volume and have play/pause and forward/rewind
capability via touch controls on the Airpods I won't spend that much money.
Given how often you hear this also from the main stream press I wouldn't be
surprised if Apple would release a second generation of the Airpods this fall
which have all of these features.

Sieghard

I just recently got a Voyager Edge and I am having problems connecting to
two devices. I have an IPhone 6 and a 6S. I pair the device with the 6S
which is my primary phone and it says it is paired to Phone 1. then when I
try to pair it with the 6, it says paired to Phone 1 instead of phone 2 as I
would expect and it does not seem to switch automatically. So what am I

Hi Reggie,

is no reason I can think of why this would not be the case.

In my opinion the Voyager Edge is one of the better bluetooth earpieces out

A friend recently showed me his Voyager Legend because I showed him my

a 1 Liter pack, they are positively huge compared to the Edge.

How does the portability of the Voyager compared to something like the
Trekzz? Can you put the Voyager in your pocket easily? This is why I
typically go for earbuds rather than a headset in that if I'm going out
without a backpack it's tougher to take one.

Keep in mind that the Voyager products are single ear pieces, and not
headsets.

A friend recently showed me his Voyager Legend because I showed him my
Voyager Edge and he was amazed by how small they are. When he handed me
the Legend it was like somebody giving you a gallon jug of milk instead of
a 1 Liter pack, they are positively huge compared to the Edge.

How does the portability of the Voyager compared to something like the
Trekzz? Can you put the Voyager in your pocket easily? This is why I
typically go for earbuds rather than a headset in that if I'm going out
without a backpack it's tougher to take one.

Actually, the Anker earbud has a hook that goes in your ear for
stability; it has over-ear hooks as an option but I never use them. I
may check out the Voyagers if I ever have need of a new set. The
biggest issue with Anker is that they aren't the easiest to put in a
pocket since the cord doesn't wrap easily.

Certainly an attractive price and all Anker products I have seen are very nice,
but one thing I like about the Voyager Edge is how small it is, for me at least
it sticks in my ear without the need for a loop that hooks over/behind my ear
and it still doesn't even block out a lot of outsound sounds.

RE: bluetooth earbud recommendations?

2017-01-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I have tried a bunch of different bluetooth earpieces, stereo headsets and
speakers, some expensive others not so and some with the latest bluetooth
version and others with Bluetooth 2.1. I found that just because a device says
it has Bluetooth 4.0 or 4.1 does not mean it is more responsive. One example
was the Plantronics Backbeat Sense I think it was called.

Sieghard

Something to consider; The Trecks Titanium by Aftershocks. They’re Bluetooth
bone induction headphones.

They’re about indestructible and rain resistant too.

They’ll verbally tell you when paired, along with battery level; high, medium
and low.

The best part about these bone induction headphones; is you can easily hear all
that’s going on around you, while listening to music, or your gps or anything
else.

The only downfall, is their price. $129.00. But I think they’re well worth it.
I use them every day and they work much better, and safer too, than ear budz;
when using to walk to a destination while using my Seeing Eye GPS app.

Way cool indeed!

Sorry for the delay.

Their only noise cancellation is passive. there is a flap of silicone from
the tip of the bud back that is meant to seal the ear canal. It does not
totally block sound. I have meant to try trimming that to hear even more
outside sound. That is my preference

I don't believe there is much if any sound bleed. But, I have not been close
to anyone using them to be certain.

Yes you can use one at a time. Just leave the other hanging around your
neck. They do have the mic and controls on the right cable.

RE: bluetooth earbud recommendations?

2016-12-16 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Chermeen,

Yes, they will work on all iPhones. I like the idea that I can use one of the
Apple earbuds if I want just something to do a phone call, but I can use both
and can get good stereo sound quality, all the reviews I have seen were quite
favourible in terms of the sound quality and so on. Keep in mind, though, that
the Apple Airpods themselves don't have a volume control.
If you want only a single earpiece for phone calls then another good option is
the Plantronics Voyager Edge. I bought a pair from Amazon last April, but
unfortunately after 3 or so months the microphones stopped working and nobody
could hear me anymore even though I could still use them to listen to a book. I
finally got around to calling Plantronics last week, the lady told me what to
do to reset them and then repair them, after this didn't fix the problem she
said they would be replaced as they do have a 1 year warranty. I received an
email, had to set up a profile and upload my proof of purchase, once that was
done a replacement earpiece was sent out which arrived inside 2 days. I was
asked to send back the defective ones to an address in Ontario, but I haven't
even done so yet and the replacement was sent out anyways. They don't have a
credit card for me either so I'm not sure what they would do if I didn't sent
the old earpiece which I intend to do, but just wondering.
The new one they sent was a completely new earpiece in the retail box with
cables, charging cradle etc. and they definitely told me all I had to send was
the earpiece which means I now have a second charging cradle. Very good
customer service.

Thanks, guys! I knew this group wasn't going to let me down. Sieghard, I
imagine the apple earbuds will work on models older than the seven, right? Dumb
question, but I have to ask haha. Now off to read reviews of all the ones you
guys suggested.

RE: bluetooth earbud recommendations?

2016-12-16 Thread Chip Orange
Hi,

I use a horse-shoe shaped unit which rests on your should around your neck; it
has ear-buds which pull out on wires from the tip of each side of the
horse-shoe, and when done, you press a button and they are automatically wound
back into the base unit.

One side of the shoe has buttons for answering and making calls, talking to
Siri, volume and vibration control; the other has buttons for play/pause,
previous/next track, and switching between 3 equalizer modes.

Excellent sound quality, and you can use either one or both ear-buds; if you
walk away from your phone the unit will start to vibrate when you get out of
bluetooth range. It's about $80 and comes in a variety of colors (I have
silver). I have a text file of notes on how to use the controls. The unit is:
LG HBS 900

Recommended by my AT store.

Hth,

Chip

Hello all,

With the recent addition of an infant to our family, my husband and I
are in the market for some Bluetooth ear buds (the kind that suction
into your ear, not the hard, round ones that typically come in the
IPhone box), as a wireless option would be best and not easy to grab
onto with tiny fingers. Any suggestions for ones with decent sound
quality and that are easy to use?

Thanks so much in advance,

How sound proof are these? Do they have a noise canceling quality? Can nearby
people hear sound bleeding out from them? Can you use one at a time, if you

Thanks. Keith

Re: bluetooth earbud recommendations?

2016-12-15 Thread Kimber Gardner
Hi Shermeen,

LG makes the hbs series of Bluetooth earphones that are reasonably
priced and quite good in my opinion. You can buy them from amazon.
Here's a link.

https://www.amazon.com/LG-HBS-910-Infinim-Bluetooth-Headset/dp/B01CURH6TI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8=1481808316=8-2=lg+hbs

You may have to copy and paste that link since it wraps.

I don't have that model (mine are the hbs730), but I expect the same
or better quality given that I've had a number of LG headsets.

I like these earphones not only for the quality, but also for the
u-shaped collar that hangs around your neck and from which the earbuds
can just dangle when not being used. I often use this headset while
out walking. I put one bud in my ear and leave the other ear open for
ambient sounds.

I suggest reading the reviews and the q before you purchase. You can
get some good info that way.

I hope this is helpful.

RE: bluetooth earbud recommendations?

2016-12-14 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Chermeen,

Not sure how much your hubby is worth 

Anyways, if it is in your budget and now that Apple just announced their
earpods will be available to order online as well as at Apple Stores next week,
I would seriously consider them. Of course since nobody has any yet apart from
the few Apple gave out to reviewers earlier nobody has reported how well they
work, but I have a feel that they are going to be very good and will be among
the top choices.

Regards,

Sieghard

Hi, just resending this message because I'm persistent and possibly annoying.
Please tell me about the bluetooth ear buds you're using and if you like them
or not? and then I'll thank you when my husband is happy with his Christmas
present! :)
