Important Moderator Message - Was Re: Changing Voices On iPhone After Jail braking

2013-02-15 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi Thomas, I'm still catching up because of my real day job and so have
gotten behind on list messages. I don't know how it's done on AppleVis,
or how you do it personally, but here on viphone we try to not air dirty
laundry. This means that if you have a problem with a list member or how
the list is run, you usually take that up with the person directly. In
this case, viphone administration is handled by me, and by Cara Quinn.
If you have specific gripes against a specific list member, take it up
with that list member directly or ignore it.

Now, as to your question, no, viphone doesn't condone discussions of
piracy, illegal hacks, etc. You can be assured that if I read something
which doesn't belong here on list, it will get taken care of. Again, I
do this mostly off list as to not clutter the list with more traffic.
However since this message of yours and another so far that I'm aware of
has been made publicly, I wanted to set the record straight.

Also note that I'm holding you accountable for what you write on here,
not AppleVis. Just so it's clear.

Feel free to email me or Cara Quinn directly if you have any questions.

Having trouble getting new voices to work after trying to change voices on
my iPhone 5. I'm following the instructions to the letter, but no luck. If
I outline what I've done, I'm hoping someone out there can tell me where I'm
going wrong. I've tried with Tom and Lee, and no luck either way. I've
tried changing the Irish voice and then I tried changing the U.S english
voice. No luck either way though. I even tried different variants of the
voices as well.

1. Put the following files into a folder so I'd have them all in 1 place.
clc_ena_cfg3.dat
clc_ena_lee_cfg3.dat
select_lee_bet2f22.dat
synth_lee_dri40_vssq5_f22.dat
uselect_lee_dri40.dat
I also renamed the proper .hdr file to broker.hdr and put it in the folder
as well.
I made sure that I chose the correct files depending on the variant and
voice I was using.
2. I navigated to the proper folder on my device and deleted everything in
the folder. Like I said, I tried with the U.S english folder as well as the
Irish folder.
3. I selected all the files I'd prepared for my voice and placed them into
the now empty folder on my device.
4. I rebooted the device, and when I went to the language in the router
where the new voice should have been, everything was silent.
5. I once again navigated to the folder on my device. Deleted everything,
and put the original files back.
6. The original voice is working fine again.

Can anyone see what I might be doing wrong? The Irish voice folder didn't
have a user rules .txt file and I didn't really think that mattered. I also
made sure that use compact voice was turned on. I'm totally stumped. Any

RE: Changing Voices On iPhone After Jail braking

2013-02-14 Thread AnonyMouse
Hello Ben,

What Ben is talking about is that our main person of AppleVis had decided to
reveal a serious accessibility problem that was discovered in the beta of
IOS 6 right before it was released. David had decided to real what would be
considered a no-no by many people. Rightfully, so.

That was a serious mistake on our part. However, that was solely David
decision since he is the owner of AppleVis. He is not a developer unlike
some of us were and are still. David has no connection with Apple in anyway.

He somehow was managed to obtain the IOS 6 GM that was release as a final
release. It had felt it was serious to not to people that Apple had a
serious flaw in the App Store. At that time it was completely inaccessible.
So he wanted to warn all of the visually community of the serious flaw and
advise not to update your device to the IOS 6 with this flaw.

The day before it was release to the public is when they actually fix the
serious flaw on the App Store.

So Ben is thinking the whole team is a hypocrite or something. I have some
other words for him but I'll keep my tongue on this.

All other members of the Editorial Team had nothing to do with this release
of that article. Did it break the NDA? Sure, I suppose so if you were a
developer but he was not.

My point is that we learned quite a bit from that mistake. Lot of people
burned us hard on that. Some continues to rehash it. I won't mention names
because that isn't my style.

So we won't be doing that again anytime soon or ever for that matter.

I am trying to look over for the visually impaired community such as the
ViPhone. I don't want to see AppleVis nor is ViPhone get shut down because
some of the people think it alright to break the law.

Just like those that told us on AppleVis. So Ben if you are one of those
people that scolded David for doing that. I'm glad! Why don't you step up
like a man and do it on here for ViPhone then and be mature to state
something like that on here? That was low and I'm not going to steep down
low like you have done.

I'm no hypocrite because I didn't make that choice on AppleVis and said it
myself that it was wrong. So is this topic.

'Nuff said.

 Hello all,

Just for clarification and understanding. Is this not illegal to do?
We have removed such topic and discussion on AppleVis because of the
legality of this procedure of taking a PAID voice that was designed
for the NVDA and specifically for that product.

My understanding from the EULA from Vocalizer is that the voices you
purchased for such product such as NVDA is not be used or shared by
 any other person or products.

I don't run this mailing list but I am rather surprised that the
moderators continue to allow this to keep going without any
 interactions by them.

So if something like this that is illegal. Can we discuss about IOS
Betas, share apps with each other, tell how to crack files to use and
 such on here?

There are developers that I am sure that are on this Mailing List and
would probably like to know if their product was mentioned here and
people are showing them how to use them illegally would probably be
 frowning on this.

I think such practice shouldn't be allowed on the ViPhone and should
 be done elsewhere.

That is just my two cents and I'm just really surprised that others
haven't mentioned or have said anything of this.

So I am curious if ViPhone allow and condone such practice and piracy?

 Thanks.
