Re: iPhone cases with belt clip and rubber shell - was - Re: How many folks carry their iPhone without a case?
Ari, you have the same case as I. My wife didn't like it because she said it took up to much room in her lab coat. She got one of those no name rubberized cases that reduced the size by offering little protection and relying on the rubberized part to keep it from falling out of her pocket. Surprisingly enough it actually works. On the other hand, my iPhone has been out of it's case maybe twice but I know once for sure. We thought my screen was starting to go out. Right in the center of the screen was this tiny white dot. We took my phone back to the AT&T store and the young fellow who sold it to us and put my phone in the case looked at it with a magnifying glass and started to chuckle. Then he took the case apart and blew the speck of dust off the inside of the plastic cover and cleaned it with a micro fiber cleaning cloth, put it all back to gather and couldn't help himself from chuckling just a little. I apologized for wasting his time and he said no, I'd rather do this all day then to have to tell people their phone can be fixed but it won't be cheap. I liked this young kid. He knows what he's talking about and had never tried Voice over and said let's check it out together and we'll both learn something together. He spent several hours with me looking up gestures and enough stuff to get me started. To top it all off, he gave me his personal iPhone number saying call me if you need help or you forgot a thing or two. Like I said, he didn't laugh to hard and the lad is only about as old as my son (22) - Original Message - From: Arianna To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Wednesday, June 05, 2013 2:07 PM Subject: Re: iPhone cases with belt clip and rubber shell - was - Re: How many folks carry their iPhone without a case? Re: How many folks carry their iPhone without a case?
Hi, if you are referring to a screen protector like what I mentioned in my prior message, it's a thin piece of plastic which sticks onto the face of the iPhone glass via silicon I believe. This adds protection to your iPhone and in the case of Speed Dots, they are modified screen protectors which have dots punched into them making it seem like there is Braille on your iPhone screen. This allows you to more quickly find things on your iPhone screen if you think you need that. I got them because I like to type fast and with the aid of the Speed Dots protector I can type more than 50 words per minute on my iPhone. I hope that helps. -- Raul A. Hi Simon, The protectors are to go over your screen so it doesn't get scratched. Don't go out and spend money because, I will be changing my phone soon and I have a couple of spare ones that will fit your 4S and won't fit my new phone. Hi When I got my iPhone 5 several months ago, I found the MiniSuit Clipster Combo Case with Kick Stand + Holster Belt Clip for Apple iPhone 5 (AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and Unlocked Models)- Black on amazon.com. It sells for about $10. It is a hard shell that covers the back and the edges of the iphone. It is not bulky, and when you put it into the holster for the belt clip, the screen is also covered. There are also openings in the back left side, top and bottom to reveal the lense, buttons and ports. But unfortunately, I think it only comes in black. You can find it at: http://www.amazon.com/MiniSuit-Clipster-Holster-Verizon-Unlocked/dp/B0099XQN RI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1370370396&sr=8-1&keywords=minisuit+iphone+5+case+ with+belt+clip That above link wrapped, so you may have to copy and paste both lines into the browser. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Raul A. Re: iPhone cases with belt clip and rubber shell - was - Re: How many folks carry their iPhone without a case?
Hi, unfortunately your not going to get around the bulkiness issue when it comes to cases with belt clips. If you want just a small case and no protection you could just get a leather belt case. But in my experience I've found these to be worthless and taking my phone out of the case scary's me because it's not protected. That being said there is the lifeproof case and the otterbox defender. RE: iPhone cases with belt clip and rubber shell - was - Re: How many folks carry their iPhone without a case?
Hi Raul and others, A friend gave me a case he bought I believe on Monoprice.com. Unfortunately I don't know the name, but I believe it was only $6 or something like that. It's a very minimal hard plastic case which covers the entire back of the phone except of course for the camera hole. It also covers the 2 long sides with cut-outs for the volume buttons and the mute switch. The top and bottom are open but the back of the case sticks out ever so slightly, I mean maybe a sixteenth of an inch, it's enough for the edge of the case to take the impact, but very little. The phone snaps into the case very securely and it adds almost no bulk, but this case has the added benefit to come with a belt clip which can also swivel, i.e. you can turn it so your phone is in landscape mode so to speak which is important if you want to use the phone on your belt with apps like Blindsquare. For apps that use the compass the phone has to point in the direction you are going instead of up and down and I find that this works very well for me. The case that is on the phone slides into the belt clip and it's a friction fit, you put the bottom end of the phone in to the top of the belt clip opening and push it down and you can, if you want, push it in top first if you want the phone to be upside down which I find sometimes is more handy if you plan to use the phone while it's in the belt clip. It is also very easy to slide the phone out if you don't have a headset connected and you want to take a call. I know it sounds too easy, but it really is a very snug and secure friction fit yet easy to slide in and out. The only complaint I have is that the belt clip is not as strong as for example the one that came with my Lifeproof case. It's secure, but if somebody gave it a really hard yank it could probably be pulled off. Re: How many folks carry their iPhone without a case?
Hi, they are relatively easy to remove and put on. However if you have a screen protector you better be sure it's on perfectly with no part of it sticking out. Otherwise you will find that the case doesn't fit quite right, or that the case makes your protector bubble out on the corners. I guess it's a good way to test whether your protector is on right or not. Of course if you don't use a protector, then no worries there. Hope that helps. -- Raul A. I have a case called Poetic something or other which covers the back, and sides and is low profile. It serves my purpose, but I've never had experience with other cases. Mine can be a little difficult to get off and on (as Apple Techs have asked me to do a few times). I plan on checking out your TPU cases sometime. Thanks. I had a case for my 3GS, but when I got my 4S I decided I would use it without a case. It looks fine to my tired old eyes, but my wife tells me that there are some small fine scratches on the back. Re: How many folks carry their iPhone without a case?
Hi, I think it also depends on whether you are the kind of person who drops things or if you have bad luck of being around people who do. For me it's a situation with all my electronics that I rarely drop them, and in 90% of the cases I've been able to resell my used electronics in like-new condition. When I had the iPhone 3GS, it was my first ever iPhone and I used the Otter Box case on it from the first day I had it until the last day when i sold it. The guy who bought it from me was impressed and mentioned that had I told him it was a brand new phone which had never been used, he might have believed me. Now with the iPhone 4S I started out with the Otter Box case for it as well but quickly got annoyed with the design on the 4. I've said on this list that I think Otter Box dropped the phone on that one. So, I did some research and since I am not prone to drops and spills on my stuff and since I want to have something which doesn't add too much bulk, I went with the s-pattern TPU cases which I've written about here on list many times. I think that Neil from the UK also recommended the Tech 21 TPU cases and from what I know, those are very good as well even though I've not actually purchased one myself. So, bottom line, get what feels right for you. If you then come across someone who dropped their phone and broke it and it didn't have a case, then you can feel better that you got one for you. -- Raul A. iPhone cases with belt clip and rubber shell - was - Re: How many folks carry their iPhone without a case?
Yay for blue, Raul! That's my favorite color, even though I have absolutely no color perception. The thing that I look for in cases a belt clips. I use them all the time. Right now, I have an OtterBox Defender, and I love it. It's starting to show its age rather spectacularly, though. There are some chips in the hard plastic shell, and the headphone port cover is dangling from one side. I'm looking to replace it, but I think I might want something a little less bulky. Don't get me wrong, I love my OtterBox, but it can get kind of in the way sometimes. What are some good cases that have clips and rubber shells? Thanks, Ari On Jun 4, 2013, at 9:31 AM, "Raul A. I'm coming in very late on this, but I personally like the TPU s-pattern or S-line cases. Hi Stacey, a Bumper is the Apple-produced case for the iPhone. It only covers the outside frame of the device and leaves the front and back bare. I'm assuming the Bumper for the 5 is identical in this design but my experience is only with the Bumpers for the 4 and 4S. I think it depends on if you plan on selling your iPhone after your contract is up with your provider. iPhones that are in fantastic condition bring more money then ones all beat to hell. Also, iPhones with larger hard drives fetch more money then those with only 8 GB for example. - Original Message - From: Rose Combs To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Thursday, May 30, 2013 9:58 AM Subject: RE: How many folks carry their iPhone without a case? I use a case, when I first got mine I had a case where it sort of sat inside, it was the case for an older iPhone but I could clip it to a pocket. I bought an Otterbox and have never looked back. I have had at least two times when I dropped the phone, once I was in the hospital and it got pushed off a table that was high; by an aide who thought it was cool to reorganize everything on my husband's table when he was having a procedure done. Recently I got tangled up in cables and pulled it off the desk, it landed on my foot, but I am glad I have that protection and a lot of my coworkers ask me where I got the case. Hi. I don't have a case for my ipad mini yet. OOooh dear, not likely, I got a Griffin Survivor around the MIni and there it stays, plenty to grab hold of or hang on to it by. And the rubber top and bottom stop it sliding about when put down. RE: How many folks carry their iPhone without a case?
Well, last fall I had two falls, one over a crack in a side walk, one over a rolled bit of asphalt at a curb. Both times I landed on the side I carry my phone, in an Otter Box case. It is still working despite the two falls and the two drops it has had in the past year, I try to be careful, but sometimes things just happen. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Christopher Chaltain Sent: Wednesday, May 29, 2013 8:21 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: How many folks carry their iPhone without a case? Screen protectors don't take away from the look and feel of the device, and the few dots help keep me oriented, especially when I'm using my phone at a strange angle. With my first two Nokia phones, I got cases for them. I also got cases for my MP3 players. When I got my Nokia E71X, I decided that it was just too attractive to wrap in plastic, leather or silicon. I haven't used any cases since then. I take good care of my devices, keeping them in a pocket, brief case and so on. I don't think less of anyone who puts a case on their phone, but I just like the sleek elegance of the device, and I want to enjoy that instead of a 3rd party case. Re: How many folks carry their iPhone without a case?
I don't use a case anymore. When I first bought my i phone 4 I got the Otterbox Defender case, thinking I needed that much protection. I guess I'm just not that tough on my stuff. I think this case does give lots of protection, unfortunately, it adds a lot of bulk, too. the one thing I did really like about this case was and is the screen protecter in it. I'm cleaning the screen more now, just because! Re: How many folks carry their iPhone without a case?
I use an Otterbox Defender case all the time. I like the protection it offers, plus it frames the screen nicely so that the four corners of the display are easy to find. I understand the rationale of using and not using the case. Here's another great example of freedom of choice. -Original Message- From: Marianne Denning Sent: Wednesday, May 29, 2013 8:45 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: How many folks carry their iPhone without a case? I don't like living dangerously, especially when my Iphone is my only phone. The case that I have makes the phone easy to hold, and even though I am extremely careful with my phone, if I should drop it I want it protected. Each to their own. Re: How many folks carry their iPhone without a case?
I had a case on my 3GS, but with no screen protector, and, when it came time to upgrade to the 4S, I was able to state that the phone's aesthetic quality was very good to excellent. There were absolutely no scratches on the screen or outer case, and all the buttons weren't loose from wear and tear. I think the best part of my case was that the back part was of a felt design, while the front part that housed the screen was hard plastic, wider and more forward then the screen, so if the phone fell screen first, the hard plastic would catch the impact and not the screen. Don't get me wrong, if the screen fell against a corner of a piece of furniture, then you were in trouble, but more often then not, it fell on it's side, back of front. When I got my 4S though, I decided I didn't need a case. Well, I did want a case, but delayed too long in getting one, and so when my phone fell on my tile floor in the kitchen, there was a slight chip in the corner. Barely noticeable, and you can hardly distinguish it from the other corners on the phone, meaning I would have to point it out just so one would notice it. My wife, who could see didn't even notice it until I pointed it out to her, but that was enough to get me to buy a case, and now it's a pain in the butt because it's a foam, rubber bumper which clicks onto a belt clip, and it's so awkward to clip into, and even harder to clip off. In any case, I guess if your intention is to re-sell it, it's better to get a case for aesthetic purposes, as most buyers prefer it be as undamaged as possible, but if you're just going to stick it in a drawer, or give it to your 10 year-old daughter when you're done with it, then I don't think a case is a necessity. Re: How many folks carry their iPhone without a case?
I have 2 good friends that carry an iPhone in their pocket with out a case. Both say, iPhone is about the toughest phone you can buy. The screen is protected by Apple's glass technology which they insist is tougher then window glass. The phone shows signs of where because the one guy has a 3GS and the other guy a 4. They say the case thing is mostly one of scaring the hell out of people. My opinion is that of yours. I'm not that brave either. - Original Message - From: Pete Nalda To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Tuesday, May 28, 2013 10:34 PM Subject: How many folks carry their iPhone without a case? Re: How many folks carry their iPhone without a case?
BTW. I have an external battery case for my iPhone, but I seldom carry my iPhone in it because it is too bulky. I do use it to charge my phone, however, because I can slide the phone into the case and the connector is located perfectly every time. No worries about accidently damaging the phone's charging port. Also, I use it when I travel, because the mini USB jack that plugs into the battery case, also works on my Plantronics M 50 headset. Less stuff to carry. I love the feel without a case, but I use the defender case on my iPhone 4S. I have dropped it in the street with the case and no damage ata all. Accidents happen no matter how careful you are. Re: How many folks carry their iPhone without a case?
I don't have a case, but I do have a screen protector. I have the screen protector from SpeedDots.
Hi all, My provider now offers to buy back my phone upon evaluation. I was told I would get a good price if my phone is in top condition without nicks and scratches. Although I was very lucky not to ever drop my phone in the 3 years I have had it, I still think minimal protection is good to have. The glass 4 and 4S can easily slide off a table if you bump it. I realize that a drop from a desk or table would probably not kill the phone but it could nick it or even just scratch it. This buy-back program did not exist when I purchased my phone but, am I ever happy I selected to protect my phone from minor accidents in order to get the best price for it. Having said that, I also don't believe that its necessary to have a phone in an armor that doubles its size unless you work on a construction site or something of a kind. I guess its up to the individual circumstances. Re: How many folks carry their iPhone without a case?
I don't like, are use cases either. People buy a nice new shiny expensive iPhone and then cover it up with the case. Just does that make sense to me. Takes away the nice looks of the iPhone. When the salesman handed me the iPhone 5, I was blown away by the feel, and considered not getting a case at all. But after a short time, it seemed that it was beginning to slide around in my hand, so i bought a very basic case that makes it easier to hold, but doesn't really destroy that neat feel. Re: How many folks carry their iPhone without a case?
Me too, I use my 5 naked. ;) No cases here… I do carry the phone in my purse when in transit and use it for work / personal every day so when not in my purse, it's always out and about. :) When at work it's always plugged into my Mac for development so it is always charging as well. For myself, I both like the Mophi products as well as the Bumpers from Apple. I did use a Bumper on my 4 and 4S and a Mophi Juicepack Air for my 3GS. For the 5, I've thought of also getting a Bumper but just haven't gotten 'round to it yet. :) I think the Bumpers are a great idea as they don't compromise the phone's appearance and do keep it from accidentally sliding off of a table etc. As well, I do agree with others here that using a case is cool too. Since the iDevices are really important life-changing little beasties, I.E. since your phone is valuable to you for more reasons than just the convenience of having a phone, being careful is certainly a wise idea. :) For now though I just use it without a case. A lanyard, was Re: How many folks carry their iPhone without a case?
Hi list, it has been very interesting discussion. When I got my Iphone I did not use it until I got my Otterbox deffender case. I did not want to use Iphone without a case because when I had Nokia phones, I had them without a case and I dropped them by accident quite often. I do not want to have it happen with Iphone. Since I got Otterbox deffender case, I feel my Iphone is very well protected. Very interesting is that I've had Iphone for more than two years and I've not dropped it with Otterbox deffender yet, but I am not saying it will never happen. As for wearing Iphone, I've purchased a very cheap lanyard recently, so I can wear Iphone on my neck. For those who might be interested, I got it for two U.S. dollars including free shipping from this website: www.dealextreme.com It is the website offering gadgets and useful things. The prices for some products are really low and they offer free shipping to most countries including U.S, UK, Canada and other countries. What people might not like about it is the fact that the website is provided in China and some people have doubts and prejudices about products quality. I would be hesitant to purchase things like chargers, cables or batteries from them, although I have heard people saying they are satisfied with these products as well. The lanyard I have purchased is what I expected it to be. It also fits with Otterbox deffender case. Here is what they say about the lanyard: 30 Pin Connector Carrying Strap for iPhone / iPad / iPod - Black (45cm) Color: Black Material: Plastic + silicone + aluminium alloy Type: Apple 30Pin Gadgets Compatible Models: iPad / iPhone / iPad Features: The sturdy and durable lanyard can hang the gadgets with your iPhone / iPad / iPod. OtherInstructions: 1. plug the connector into the USB port of iPhone / iPad / iPod; 2. press the chips on the both end of the connector, it will be easily pulled out from your iPhone without any damage to the port; 3.the length of the lanyard is adjustable. Unfortunately, the strap is made only for 30 Pin connector I-devices; it means it does not fit with iphone 5. The product direct link: http://dx.com/p/30-pin-connector-carrying-strap-for-iphone-ipad-ipod-black-45cm-151461 Sorry guys for my rambling and for off-topic e-mail. I just thought it might be of help. Have a great day. Re: How many folks carry their iPhone without a case?
Hi, It really depends on how much time and mental energy you are willing to devote to keep your iPhone safe. It also depends on if you plan on reselling your phone. Without a case, I think its almost impossible to keep your phone from accumulating some minor scratches, and general ware and tare. A case often protects from this kind of damage. Hi. I'm not that brave - smile. I am pretty tough on my phone as I use it for both work and leisure which also means I rrun out of juice early afternoon so I have a juice pack case which both protects the phone and charges it up when needed. It's a bit bulky but that's the trade off. Best, Jo Sent from my iPhone On 29/05/2013, at 3:34 PM, Pete Nalda wrote: > I'm finding I love the way my iPhone 4 feels neked, but is it too risky?
