RE: Nearby Explorer and Alternative GPS Apps

2019-04-02 Thread Richard Turner
I have access to both because of my job.
But, I tend to use Google Maps and either Lazarillo or BlindSquare for myself
since I don't want to spend the $79 for Nearby Explorer or the $299.99 for
Seeing Eye XT GPS as an outright purchase, or the $129.99 for 3 years
subscription, or the $69.99 per month ...
I'm not sure if the 99ยข is part of those prices, but you get the idea.

If I was going to not have to consider cost, I'd probably go with Seeing Eye XT.

I think the intersection descriptions are better in it.

But, this is truly a case of everybody's needs are different so each person
really needs to sort out what the features are they want in a GPS app and go
with whichever one meets that need.

Richard

i have and use both, but the two advantages to Seeing Eye are that your
current location is displayed on the home screen, and route creation is much
easier and more straight forward.

Hi, can anyone speak to the advantages of the Seeing Eye GPS app over
Nearby Explorer? I think it's still called Seeing Eye, the one
formerly developed by Sendero? There are aspects about Nearby Explorer
I enjoy, like the ability to hear approaching streets while walking as
well as the ability to raise the phone and hear the next several
streets in any given direction. I'm not entirely sure the directions
it renders are always the most efficient though, and I quite frankly
hate the interface, even after hiding unwanted buttons on the home
screen. I don't regret paying the subscription fee, especially since
it was a one-time charge, but I might be interested in an alternative.
If anyone has found a way to announce upcoming intersections using
some of the mainstream apps, like Apple's Maps or Google Maps, I'd be
interested to hear how to set that up. Thank you kindly in advance for
any help.

Best,

Joe
