RE: Nearby Explorer is now in the iOS app store

2016-08-20 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Joe,

Whether it goes on sale or not is anybody’s guess, I could say “Sure, I’m sure
it will at some point” or “No, no way it will go on sale” and both statements
would probably be true.
You can save 20% simply by checking on iTunes gift card deals. It is back to
school season and I wouldn’t be surprised if various retailers or eBay had a
20% off deal somewhere, if you can find one you can get it for $63.99 instead
of $79.99.
Otherwise, if you aren’t in a hurry, just wait until Christmas, if it does go
on sale there is a good chance it may happen by then or around Black
Friday/Cyber Monday time.

Regards,
Sieghard

Does anyone foresee the app going on sale at some point? Sorry, I know that
makes me seem like a total cheapskate. I really want to support the app at its
full value for all the development that went into it, but in trying to manage
my finances, I’m curious as to whether or not the app has ever gone on sale on
the Android market. Thanks in advance! And, feel free to chastise me if you
think I’m being unreasonable. :)

According to what I've read, Nearby Explorer uses Navteq maps for the onboard
maps and in the details on the app store, you need at least 4GB of free space
to download the maps, so be sure you have that before purchasing.

It uses other sources to supplement the onboard maps.

Here is some info from the Navteq frequently asked questions.

If Nearby uses Openstreetmap, it’s even more strange that it doesn’t cover
Sweden, only the US and Canada. Oh well, shrug.
