Thanks Donna! I had this problem with the NBA app this evening, and your 
suggestion fixed the problem for me. I'll need to take back the positive things 
I said about screen recognition.

Hopefully, this is your lucky day! I accidently happened upon something last 
night that may fix your problem. If the app is in the app switcher, remove it. 
Go open the app & immediately close it. Open the app switcher, place voiceovers 
focus on the app, turn the rotor to screen recognition & flick to turn it on. I 
had you to remove the app from the app switcher, because when trying to 
recreate my finding I foud that if the app had been open in the app switcher 
for a whilescreen recognition did not show up in the rotor options.
