RE: Question about Stocks app?
Hi, Fred, not that I have that kind of money to invest to follow it closely, but it’s interesting to check what’s going on once in a while. The first thing you come to when swiping right is the date, and then next is the search field which you would double tap like any other such edit field using VoiceOver. I haven’t tried it but presumably you can enter a company name or ticker symbol and get a quote. You then would come to the Dow Jones Industrial average with the current value and amount of change either during the current trading day or the completion of the last session, then likewise for the S&P 500. You then come to stock quotes from slected companies. I am not sure how they are selected, they change from day to day, possibly depending on trading volume or news items, but Apple is always first, understandably. These listings give the company name followed by the ticker symbol and then the price and movement just like the DJIA and S&P. I notice A. T. & T. is regularly in my list, possibly because that’s my carrier. After this list, possibly a half dozen or so, you get the Dow Jones again and can swipe to related stories from Apple News, which you can presumably double tap on to read in more detail, then you come into the like set-up for the S&P. The final element is manage watch list. I don’t know if you can create one there or if you have the opportunity to add to the list when you do a search for companies you are interested in. I also don’t know if any of this works for getting information on commodities or bonds or other types of investments. Keep in mind that if we are within a trading session, you may find VoiceOver interrupting periodically as the numbers are updated. You will remain on the element you were viewing however. That’s my best stab at this just from looking around and playing a bit. Anyone else who knows more is welcome to chime in. RE: Question about Stocks app?
Hello folks. Yes this app can be customized to reflect your own watch list using the manage watch list button at the bottom of the screen. It will open an edit field where you can type in the company or simble and then swipe right to add it to your list. If you want more updated info on any one stock in your list, simply double tap on the company simble and it will bring up a different view with the name and relevant details / news below the simble. Swiping left will then give you the option to dismiss that view in favor of the previous one. It is very accessible because it was developed by Apple I would assume. Re: Question about Stocks app?
Thanks, Bill, I wanted to set up my own watch list, just haven't been brave enough to tackle it. Re: Question about Stocks app?
Anything available from Yahoo Finance can be put on the Stocks app. This includes stocks on non-US exchanges and world currencies. Sometimes, it is possible to find the front month futures contract of a commodity. However, when the contract expires, it is not replaced by the next front month contract. Instead, use a commodities app like oil Price or Crude Today these have the prices of major energy and metals futures. There are also apps for agricultural commodities.
