Hi,

This should do it...

1. Touch the status bar at the top of the screen

2. 3-finger swipe up to bring up the Control Centre.

3. 3-finger swipe down to bring up the Notification Centre.

Hope this helps.

I'm not Alan, but yes if you do not have unlimited data.
If you have unlimited data, it is fine.
If your WiFi signal is weak, if wifi assist is on, it will switch to using
cellular, and if you happen to be streaming a movie, that can eat a lot of data.
I pay by the gig, so I make sure that is turned off.

2020-05-22 Thread Alan Lemly
Holly,

I say that if you don't have unlimited cellular data and your wifi connection
isn't always rock solid, you might consider turning off wifi assist in order to
avoid the surprise of some of your cellular data being used when your wifi
signal is weak and you might be unaware cellular data is being used.

RE: Setting up a new iPhone SE 2020 step by step

2020-05-22 Thread Alan Lemly
Hi Dennis,

I think the main one I recommended checking was Wifi assist because not
everyone has unlimited cellular data plans and therefore don't want to run the
risk of using their cellular data when they believe they are only using wifi.
You can find this under Settings, Cellular, find the heading for Cellular data
and then swipe way down to Wifi assist which should be near the bottom since
the list is alphabetized where you can turn this off if desired. Mine was reset
to on after upgrading to my SE 2020.

I am reposting the below at the request of Vivian.

Alan

Hi List,

I decided to make detailed notes of the steps involved in setting up a new
iPhone mainly for my own benefit since I forget what is involved as I only do
this every couple of years. In my case, I bought this SE 2020 directly from the
Apple Store app with no SIM card included since I have a prepaid Verizon plan
and could not specify my carrier successfully when ordering. The below numbered
list will be very detailed since I'd rather have too much information than not
enough. Any settings provided came from my iPhone 8 running iOS 13.4.1.

1. Opened iTunes on my Windows 7 computer, verified I was running its
latest version of 12.10.6, connected my iPhone 8 using the lightning cable, and
did an encrypted backup.
2. Did an iCloud backup by going to Settings - Alan Lemly - Apple ID -
iCloud - iTunes and App Store, iCloud, iCloud backup, and executing Backup now.
3. I read a lot of books using the BARD Mobile app and since any books
downloaded to an iPhone are not transferred to a new restored iPhone, I made a
list in an Excel file of the downloaded books I wanted to re-download to my new
iPhone and the location of any current reading position in those books.
4. I plugged my lightning cable connected to my computer to the new phone
and the Apple logo appeared on the screen. The white screen appeared a few
seconds later with the cycling languages appearing and I pressed the home
button 3 times quickly to turn on Voiceover. Although I was hearing clicks as I
swiped, Voiceover did not start talking until a number of seconds later. In
fact, I pressed the home button 3 times again because I wasn't sure I had
turned Voiceover on. This turned Voiceover off and I had to press the home
button 3 times again to turn it back on and I heard Voiceover say hello and
when I swiped once, Voiceover said press home to open.
5. I pressed home and Voiceover said Setup and put me in a list of
language buttons with English at the top. I double tapped on English.
6. The screen which opened said Select your country or region heading. I
double tapped on the United States button which was the first in the list.
7. The screen which opened said Quick start heading Bring your current
iPhone or iPad near this iPhone to sign in and set up. The older iPhone must be
using iOS 11 or later with Bluetooth turned on. There was a button at the end
to Set up manually.
8. A screen opened on my old iPhone to set up a new iPhone using my apple
ID with a button to continue. A screen appeared to position some pattern in a
circle but I double tapped the Authenticate manually button instead.
9. I was prompted to input the 6 digit authentication code displayed on my
new iPhone using the number pad screen on my old iPhone. My new iPhone then
prompted me to enter my passcode of my old iPhone. I had to double tap each
number on the on screen number pad on my new iPhone since touch typing was not
turned on.
10. I was prompted to set up touch ID on the new iPhone which I did.
11. Several screens were presented asking me to place my finger and lift my
finger which I did. I was then taken to a screen which said Adjust your grip
and it said keep going to capture the edges of your grip. I double tapped a
Continue button at the bottom of this screen.
12. I was then prompted to again place and lift my finger until I got the
Complete message. Touch ID is ready was spoken and I then executed the Continue
button at the bottom of that screen.
13. The next screen said Transfer your data heading. The explanation said
you can directly transfer your data during setup or finish downloading it
later. Buttons on this screen were Transfer from iPhone, Download from iCloud,
or other options. The Transfer from iPhone said the time to transfer was about
1 hour. The download from iCloud said I could start us

You cannot start Voiceover with SIRI during setup because at that point SIRI is
not setup and typically your phone does not yet have network or WiFi
connectivity.
This is exactly why Apple has made it so easy to start Voiceover with a triple
press of the home button.

Wow, glad your setup went smoothly. Or at least pretty much smoothly, from your
setup steps.
However, a warning for any newcommers to the iPhone SE2020.
If you start setup, turn on Voicer, it may not speak at all and you may have to
get sighted help. Someone from the audiogames.net forum said thy had this

RE: Setting up a new iPhone SE 2020 step by step

2020-05-02 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You cannot start Voiceover with SIRI during setup because at that point SIRI is
not setup and typically your phone does not yet have network or WiFi
connectivity.
This is exactly why Apple has made it so easy to start Voiceover with a triple
press of the home button.

If VoiceOver does not come up, can't you ask Siri to launch it.

Occasionally, my husband'swill on his tablet, and all he does is ask Siri to
turn VoiceOver off, and she does.

Wow, glad your setup went smoothly. Or at least pretty much smoothly, from your
setup steps.
However, a warning for any newcommers to the iPhone SE2020.
If you start setup, turn on Voicer, it may not speak at all and you may have to
get sighted help. Someone from the audiogames.net forum said thy had this
issue, so just thought I'd bring it up, in case they werent on here.
