even for me and I'm not a super big buy, but I'm also not small.
My advice would be not to buy an Apple Watch now, as a relatively new device at
least when compared to the iPhone and iPad development is still on a bit of a
faster track and in just over 3 months it is likely Apple will release a new
generation of apple Watch. My wife and I have the series 2 watch and for my
wife it's not such a big deal since she isn't a Voiceover user, but a series 2
is quite frustrating to use, a bit sluggish and at least mine constantly locks
on me even if I am in the middle of tapping or swiping. I am sure the series 4
is much better, but since you have gotten along without one for this long
another 3 months won't matter so wait and see what Apple comes up with this
year.

you use your Apple watch?

As for me they are:

1.
Checking the hourly weather forecast.

2.
As a pedometer.

3.
Using the timer feature, with Siri.

Honorable Mention:
Quickly scrolling through turn-by-turn directions when navigating a route

RE: Theme Question: How Do You Use Your Apple Watch?

2019-05-20 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Mark,

I don't know which series of Apple Watch Ann has, but while this may be
reliable on the series 4 it is far from reliable on a series 2. The main
complaint I have with my series 2 is the constant locking while I am tapping or
swiping, it's absolutely ridiculous and it is something I know others
experience and it was reported to Apple and either they simply can't figure out
how to fix it or they are ignoring it. Maybe the series 4 doesn't have this
problem, either, but it make s a series 2 watch very frustrating to use. As for
haptic time feedback I think your " Practice, practice, practice" advice is
just ever so slightly condescending since you obviously don't acknowledge that
this feature is not perfect, once again, maybe it is 100% perfect on the series
4, but I think I can say with confidence that after owing my series 2 watch for
over 2 years I have had lots of Practice, practice, practice and I'd consider
myself to be pretty good with the touch screen and I would say on my series 2
it's maybe 60% successful.

Hello Ann,

Your post made me smile.

I can honestly say that I have 100% success in having the current time
presented via hap tic feedback.

I think the secret is to issue the commands quickly and with confidence. If
there is even the slightest hesitation, then you will hear audio feedback /
VoiceOver will announce the time. It takes much practice but you can get the
hang of it. Remember, no hesitation. Just 2 quick strong and fast
single-finger taps. It's kind of like breathing, the more you think about it,
the more complicated it becomes.

Practice, practice, practice.

Mark

Hi all:
Are use my watch a lot! I’ve verified messages, check on the weather when I’m
busy and can’t grab the phone, watch my rings for competition with my daughter,
keep track of time. It’s been invaluable. I’ve also used it as a heart monitor,
and run ECGs a few times as well.

RE: Theme Question: How Do You Use Your Apple Watch?

2019-05-19 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Mary,

First, keep in mind that one can turn VoiceOver speech off, without disabling
the gestures, in both iOS and Mac OS; so this ability would, in no way, be
knew.

Second, the primary reason that I would like the feature is for those who have
trouble using the current time hap tic feedback gesture. If one could simply
turn speech off, then one could request the time without fear of audio feedback.

There are times, when on a call, via the phone, when VoiceOver speech can get
in the way of the call audio, especially when using certain VoiceOver gestures.

To be honest, there are a couple of other reasons why I would find such an
ability useful but, I can't think of them, at present. However, I can say that
adding this feature to Watch OS would bring it in line with both Mac OS and iOS.

Mark

Hi Mark,
I don’t have an Apple Watch, but I am mystified as to the value of silent mode.
If you are a voiceover user, of what possible benefit is silent mode?

RE: Theme Question: How Do You Use Your Apple Watch?

2019-05-19 Thread M. Taylor

Mark

Keeping it to 3 things is not easy, but here it goes:
Keep track of my activity rings, Notifications, and my calendar appointments.

WHEN I was considering getting an Apple Watch, I was not sure what I would use
it for. Now I wonder what I would do without it!

Re: Theme Question: How Do You Use Your Apple Watch?

2019-05-19 Thread Maria Reyes
Hi Mary,
Silent mode is if when you get a notification the watch will just tap you it
won't make any sound. Kind of like muting your phone. The reason I like it is
because i can set an alarm and my watch will just tap me when the alarm is
going off

RE: Theme Question: How Do You Use Your Apple Watch?

2019-05-19 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Jennie,

You know, I have yet to enable the cellular feature on my watch but I can
definitely see myself doing so, soon. I still find it difficult to imagine
being outside my home without my iPhone. I know how that must sound but,
nevertheless, it's absolutely true. Being away from home with only my Apple
Watch? Hmmm! Hard to get my mind around that one. (big smile).

Hi Mark and all,

My top ways I use my AppleWatch are for:
1. Phone calls. I tend to accidentally leave my phone at home, so I answer
phone calls on my cellular watch.
2. Text messages. I like dictating short sweet messages.
3. Weather. I use it to find out how warm or cold it is outside.

RE: Theme Question: How Do You Use Your Apple Watch?

2019-05-19 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Pam,

You know, it was not until Apple included hap tic feedback for the current
time, that I decided to buy a watch.

Until then, I was a Braille-only man, so to speak. I still adore the elegance
of Braille but I have to admit that the hap tic feedback for the current time
is the feature that placed me, yet again, deep inside the Apple orchard.
(smile).

I don’t have an Apple Watch, but I am mystified as to the value of silent mode.
If you are a voiceover user, of what possible benefit is silent mode?

Hi Michael,

Yes, I love silent notifications, on the watch. It has truly been a game

I am so glad Apple put a silent mode on the watch. Now if they would only

RE: Theme Question: How Do You Use Your Apple Watch?

2019-05-19 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Wait until the fall and see if a new one is released. I bought a series 2 after
it came out and it was one of my worst Apple purchases because it's sluggish
and the watch locking the screen while I am trying to do stuff on it is so bad
that I sometimes don't even want to use it. I sure hope that has been resolved
with the series 4, it's extremely frustrating and as Ann says, the haptic time
feature is unreliable at best, again I can only refer to the series 2 watch.

Subject: Theme Question: How Do You Use Your Apple Watch?

Hello Everyone,

As I have recently approved several new people to the group, I thought it might
be helpful if they could discover how many of us use our various apple devices.

So, my question: Other than telling the time, what are the top three ways you
use your Apple watch?

As for me they are:

1.
Checking the hourly weather forecast.

2.
As a pedometer.

3.
Using the timer feature, with Siri.

Honorable Mention:
Quickly scrolling through turn-by-turn directions when navigating a route via
Apple Maps.

I look forward to your replies,

Mark

Fitbit [was "Re: Theme Question: How Do You Use Your Apple Watch?"]

2019-05-18 Thread Christopher Chaltain
There are a lot of FitBits to choose from, but the big difference is
that they aren't accessible. I had the FitBit Charge HR. It was great
for tracking steps and workouts, monitoring my sleep, tracking my heart
rate and using it for alarms. Everything had to be done through the app
on the phone though, since the device itself isn't accessible.

Re: Theme Question: How Do You Use Your Apple Watch?

2019-05-18 Thread Chris Chaffin

Keeping it to 3 things is not easy, but here it goes:
Keep track of my activity rings, Notifications, and my calendar appointments.

WHEN I was considering getting an Apple Watch, I was not sure what I would use
it for. Now I wonder what I would do without it!

Re: Theme Question: How Do You Use Your Apple Watch?

2019-05-18 Thread Jennie Facer
Hi Mark and all,

My top ways I use my AppleWatch are for:
1. Phone calls. I tend to accidentally leave my phone at home, so I answer
phone calls on my cellular watch.
2. Text messages. I like dictating short sweet messages.
3. Weather. I use it to find out how warm or cold it is outside.
