Re: Traveling with iPhone 6

2014-12-15 Thread Don Breda
truthfully it does work and charges the battery once the phone is
plugged in but Its probably not a good idea to leave the lightning
adapter plugged in to the 30 pin connector.

\
OF course that is what you really want to do to keep from loosing it its
so small so the better solution is to buy a battery that supports the
lightnihng connector from the get go.

Don't use a 30 pin to lightning adapter on that battery.

It will think your charging a device as soons as you plug the adapter in.

I tried that and it told me it was charging as soon as I plugged the
adapter in.

Thanks everyone. Do the batteries with more power recharge the phone faster, or
is it just a matter of keeping the external battery attached to the phone? And
how solid do the ones you're recommending here feel when attached? You know
how sometimes they stick out or feel like they might break off? Maybe that's
why there are cases :-) I guess I'm looking for a hands-on sense of what
they're like on the road. Thanks!

I would probably not buy a small external battery with a fixed lightning
connector. If you use a battery where you have to use your regular lightning
cable or even if you buy one of the short 6 inch ones then there is a lot less
chance of something getting damaged.

RE: Traveling with iPhone 6

2014-12-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
There are tons of external batteries out there and in the end it is your
decision as to how much of a charge you want and that of course will be a
trade-off against the size ofg your battery. I highly recommend the external
batteries from Anker and Limefuel. Especially Anker gets super good ratings and
they make anything from a small emergency charge stick which is barely larger
than a lipstick to much larger and heavier batteries of up to I think 24,000
MAH which would allow you to charge your phone probably about 8 times
completely. The iPhone 6 battery has a capacity of 1,810 MAH. If you want to be
able to charge the battery back up to 100% when it drops to the second 10%
warning, you would probably need at least a 2,500 MAH external battery, you
always need more battery capacity than what your iPhone battery has even though
in an ideal world an 1,800 MAH battery should fully charge an 1,810 MAH battery
which is at 10%. If you want to get 2 full charges you probably want at least a
6,000 MAH battery, 8,000 MAH is probably a safer option.

Sieghard

The talking battery is from MyCharge and it’s called Summit. I am not sure,
however, if the current model still talks because I think I heard that the

short cables for Micro USB and it also has a 30-Pin Apple connector. This was a
nice feature when I still had my 4S because I didn’t even need an additional
cable. I guess I could get a 30 Pin to Lightning adapter, but I have not done
so because given it’s price I just don’t think it’s worth it and eventually all
batteries wear out so most likely my next one either just has ports to plug in
a cable or I’ll buy one with a Lightning cable. Being able to push the button
on the battery and hear “Battery is full” or “Battery is less than 50%” and so
on is a nice feature, but not crutial. I assume one could probably use an app

Re: Traveling with iPhone 6

2014-12-12 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Yes absolutely. My Anker battery has an LCD on which battery percentage is
displayed. So I often take a picture of the display with TapTapSee and get the
percentage remaining back every time.
Not as cool as just pressing a button to hear the percentage, but sadly the low
capacity of that battery wouldn't have met my particular needs.

is less than 50%” and so on is a nice feature, but not crutial. I assume one
could probably use an app like Tap Tap See to get feedback as to how many
LED’s are lit up and get information about the battery status that way or
just asking somebody is of course always a good alternative.

There are many such devices, and I think the key point here is how much juice
 you would like.
The more capacity, the larger the device has to be. I have an Anker 20,000
MhA battery which charges the iPhone several times, because I am sometimes
travelling for 24-36 hours at a time. It has four USB ports and can even
 fully charge my iPad.
If your requirements a less dramatic, there are some much smaller versions
with less capacity. The Anker packs get very good reviews, and so do the
LimeAide devices. My fiancee has a 12,000 MhA one from LimeAid. It works well
and is a lot smaller than mine.
There is also a model from another manufacturer that talks, but its capacity
I think is only 6,00 MhA, which should be fine if you only need to charge the
 phone once.

Re: Traveling with iPhone 6

2014-12-12 Thread Ron Pelletier
Hi Sieghard,

I just got that model from A T Guys because I don’t have a need for more than
the 6000 ma and I do like the fact that the battery talks. As for the 20 pin
connector it is not very useful with my 5S and the adaptor is too expensive. I
am considering a 6 inch USB to lightning cable for $9.95 from the people who
make the SoapBox. I use the micro USB connector all the time to charge my
JamBox mini, my Bluiz 2 bone conduction headset and also my Bluetooth
transmitter that I use on other devices that have an earphone jack but are not
Bluetooth. I also like the idea that I can unfold the prongs and plug it in a
wall socket and recharge it in only 4 hours. Of course, I also sometimes use
the USB connector to recharge from my computer if necessary.
