Hey Helga, you should convince your parents to switch. They still have the two
lines for $100 offer. Which ends up being hundred and $80 each by the time you
buy the phone and at all the charges.

RE: With unlimited cellular plans, do folks usally keep or cancel home WiFi?

2017-05-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Kelly,

Just curious where you read that Obama sude them, I just did a few Google
searches and never saw his name mentioned, all articles I saw which are similar
to the one below name the FCC which of course would make sense since they
oversee such things. Given your comment I guess you didn't like Obama much and
that Trump is more to your liking *smile*. He probably tweeted this since that
is how he seems to run the country, I'm surprised he doesn't have the nickname
President Tweet yet or "CIT", Commander in Twitter..

Article from October 19, 2016:
T-Mobile will pay $48 million as part of a settlement over inadequate
disclosure of restrictions on the unlimited data plans it offered consumers,
the Federal Communications Commission announced Wednesday.
The cellular provider will pay a $7.5 million fine and $35.5 million to
T-Mobile and MetroPCS customers with unlimited plans as part of a settlement of
an investigation into whether the company adequately informed unlimited data
subscribers about speed and data restrictions, the FCC said.
T-Mobile could slow down customers' data speeds when they exceed a monthly data
threshold, the agency's investigation found. “Consumers should not have to
guess whether so-called ‘unlimited’ data plans contain key restrictions, like
speed constraints, data caps, and other material limitations,” said FCC
Enforcement Bureau Chief Travis LeBlanc in a statement. “With today’s
settlement, T-Mobile has stepped up to the plate to ensure that its customers
have the full information they need to decide whether ‘unlimited’ data plans
are right for them.”
The FCC said that the company's advertisements and other disclosures may have
misled customers by failing to let them know that unlimited data customers
would have their data speeds slowed if they used more than 17 Gigabytes in a
month. Consumers told the agency that this practices made the network unusable
for them at times.
Unlimited plans and stream-lined consumer offerings for data, calls and texting
without overage fees have helped T-Mobile grow its customer base to become the
No. 3 wireless provider with 52.5 million customers. Competitors including AT
and Sprint have countered with their own programs.

Last year, the FCC proposed a similar action against AT with a potential $100
million fine for misleading unlimited data customers. AT has filed a
response, which is still under review by the FCC.

Customers eligible for benefits -- including 20% discounts on accessories and
an additional 4GB of data for their plan -- will be notified by December 15.
For more information, consumers can visit the T-Mobile and MetroPCS web sites.

Under the settlement, T-Mobile will also update its customer education
materials to explain this “Top 3 Percent Policy,” in which heavy data users
have their speeds slowed and will notify customers via the network when their
usage nears that level, the FCC said. T-Mobile will also donate at least $5
million for tablets and other devices to low-income school districts to combat
the homework gap.
T-Mobile (TMUS) shares were down nearly 1% Wednesday to $46.90.

T-Mobile used the word unlimited in one of its ads and Obama sued the company,
charging fraud because there were limits to unlimited. After Donald Trump was
elected, he signaled he was not going to extort tens of millions of dollars
from cell phone companies that tossed out the word unlimited so they all use it
now. There are limits to unlimited.

On VZW, UnLimited users get About20GB or is it
About22GB of Data before VZW interrupts their

2017-05-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Also keep in mind that you can’t update an iPhone via cellular and, as the
others pointed out, even if you use your iPhone as a hotspot so your laptop can
access the internet this would not be a workable solution for things like an
Apple TV or other connected devices like a camera, video doorbell, thermostat,
smart scale and on and on. Also, if you own any Sonos equipment you do need a
WiFi network and many iCloud features require you to have your iOS device or
devices on the same WiFi as your computer. I also think many of these so-called
unlimited plans don’t even include the data if you use your iPhone as a
hotspot. We don’t have unlimited data plans here in Canada, but I now have a
fibre internet connection which gives me 125 Mb download and 10 Mb upload and I
certainly wouldn’t want to miss it, LTE cellular isn’t bad and it can be quite
fast depending on where you are, but it’s certainly amazing when I updated to
the Windows 10 Creator’s Update which I believe is a 3 Gb or more download and
the actual download took about 4 minutes and that was while my wife was
watching Netflix in the living room as well.

Sieghard

Largely it depends on how unlimitted your unlimitted cell plan is. The thing
these days is to tell you it's unlimitted, but once you've past a certain
point, to throttle your connection down a few knotches. You're still not being
charged for the overage, but you're not using your full connection either.
Plus, in many cases cellular data is still slower than DSL or cable net in the
first place. Me personally, if I have the option of using wifi, I'll use wifi.
It's just generally less of a pain overall.

Hi,

I’ve never been on an unlimited cellular plan. Just wondering if folks who are
on unlimited plans keep their home WiFi?

I’m guessing I would keep it, but the thought of completely cutting cable has
some appeal.

Thanks in advance, Keith

A few years ago we wen without wifi for about 18 months in orer to
save money. Though it did save some money, my wife and I ended up
going to my in-laws house and using their wifi several times a month.
Or, we would park ourselves in McDonald's or Starbucks and use the
slower public wifi there. At the time, our data plan was very limited.
We were on AT and had about 4 gigs of shared data. Now we are on
T-Mobile, and when we signed up, we both got 10 gig data plans. We
have hoem wifi through Spectrum, and pay about $45 monthly for up to
100 GB wifi. Pretty good deal all things considered. Like someone else
said, it is faster and a lot less of a headache to just use wifi
rather than mess with your data. Besides, there's no way of knowing if
you might really need that data plan at some point.

Hi James, I never said I was dropping my Wi-Fi. I'm definitely keeping it for
sure. But the T-Mobile hotspot, comes in handy for times whenever I leave to go
out of town, and want to keep up with email and what not as I do nothing but
email from my computer. For the most part. And it's much easier. I don't have
to worry about I Wi-Fi password for somebody else's network especially if I'm

Re: With unlimited cellular plans, do folks usally keep or cancel home WiFi?

2017-05-04 Thread Robin
On VZW, UnLimited users get About20GB or is it
About22GB of Data before VZW interrupts their
Service & that only occurs during HighDemand

Then VZW returns your UnLimited until Demand
becomes High again during the SamePeriod

RE: With unlimited cellular plans, do folks usally keep or cancel home WiFi?

2017-05-04 Thread James Homuth
Largely it depends on how unlimitted your unlimitted cell plan is. The thing
these days is to tell you it's unlimitted, but once you've past a certain
point, to throttle your connection down a few knotches. You're still not
being charged for the overage, but you're not using your full connection
either. Plus, in many cases cellular data is still slower than DSL or cable
net in the first place. Me personally, if I have the option of using wifi,
I'll use wifi. It's just generally less of a pain overall.

Hi,

I've never been on an unlimited cellular plan. Just wondering if folks who
are on unlimited plans keep their home WiFi?

I'm guessing I would keep it, but the thought of completely cutting cable
has some appeal.

Thanks in advance, Keith

Hello Keith, I have an unlimited plan, and in reality, you only get teen gigs
of high-speed Internet anything after that, is lower down to a lower speed. And
plus on top of that, if you do away from your home Wi-Fi, you wouldn't be able
