This happened to me when I went on a driving holiday through the
south, turns out that Houston in July doesn't agree with iphones.

I think it’s not a problem if you turn the phone off although a car in the sun 
and in 90 degree weather can easily get to be 120 or 130 degrees so even turned 
off that is probably not good for any electronics..

Yes, and where I live it’s the opposite in the winter, best keep your phone 
close to your body because when it goes down to around minus 20 or so it won’t 
work for long out in the cold.
