RE: Addition to the saga RE: iPhone not responding well to my touch gestures

2023-07-12 Thread Carolyn Arnold
Back about five or so years ago, when I had the original SE, I had that
problem, when at our Senior Center, which is down low and in woods. I certainly
could not call out with Siri, but usually could, when I made my calls myself,
as the customer service guy at Consummer Cellular, my carrier at the time,
advised me to do. Therefore, I acquired the good habit of doing that. Still, I
missed some calls that came while there.

Well, there is one other thing that I've been told about now.

For some weird reason, sometimes, calls I receive don't register. Several times
during convention, and again yesterday, people have told me that they tried
calling me but that it went to voicemail. Most of the time, I don't even hear
the phone ring, and the actual call doesn't register.

Now yesterday, I did hear someone try calling me but when I tried answering, it
was as though nobody was calling. Very strange stuff going on. And, it doesn’t
happen with all calls. I haven’t messed with any settings that I know of, and I
have been using my phone as I always do. Very strange.

Good morning,

For a few weeks now, I have been dealing with a very annoying issue on my
phone. When I do something like swipe or other Voiceover gestures with my
finger, things start out OK, but after a few instances, there is a sort of jump
or crash that takes me one layer back or to the very top of where I started,
and I need to start over again. It is annoying when I’m looking at something
like a website or Social Media and then the jump happens.

Also, when I input text using Braille mode, I won’t get more than two sentences
into what I’m writing, and then it jumps and changes modes, making me need to
go back to the rotar and go back to Braille mode.

I don’t think that speed has much to do with what’s going on, but I’ve tried
slowing down, which doesn’t always work for me. I just know that something’s
got to give because this continuous jumping around or going back a page or
layer doesn’t make me productive at all!

Has this happened to anyone else? What might be happening here, and what can I
try to fix it? I’ve not seen this behavior until a few weeks ago.

Jim

Braille screen input is definitely flaky in this iOS release. I have a similar
experience to what you describe where suddenly bsi will just turn itself off in
the middle of brailling. Also it seems I can't use tabletop mode at all. The
letters just will not form correctly.

If focus modes or "Do not disturb” are enabled then some or all calls can be
directed to voice mail. You can usually test this by having the person who is

it rings.
It is possible to disable this break through on second call attempt but the

Sometimes when I have a meeting scheduled on my iPhone calendar, there will be
a prompt on the lock screen asking if I want to enable do not disturb for the
meeting. One can also enable/disable focus modes with SIRI.

Re: Addition to the saga RE: iPhone not responding well to my touch gestures

2023-07-12 Thread Jonathan Cohn
If focus modes or "Do not disturb” are enabled then some or all calls can be
directed to voice mail. You can usually test this by having the person who is
going to voice mail try calling you again almost right away and then seeing if
it rings.
It is possible to disable this break through on second call attempt but the
default in most focus modes is to allow break throughs.
Sometimes when I have a meeting scheduled on my iPhone calendar, there will be
a prompt on the lock screen asking if I want to enable do not disturb for the
meeting. One can also enable/disable focus modes with SIRI.

Re: iPhone not responding well to my touch gestures

2023-07-12 Thread Kimberly Gardner
Braille screen input is definitely flaky in this iOS release. I have a
similar experience to what you describe where suddenly bsi will just
turn itself off in the middle of brailling. Also it seems I can't use
tabletop mode at all. The letters just will not form correctly.

Re: Addition to the saga RE: iPhone not responding well to my touch gestures

2023-07-12 Thread Kimberly Gardner
This phone not ringing is happening to me as well ever since the most
recent update to iOS. It doesn't always happen or even with any
predictable pattern. I had the same problem a couple of years ago. I
don't recall which iOS it was, but eventually it just went away.

Addition to the saga RE: iPhone not responding well to my touch gestures

2023-07-12 Thread Jim Portillo
Well, there is one other thing that I've been told about now.

For some weird reason, sometimes, calls I receive don't register. Several
times during convention, and again yesterday, people have told me that they
tried calling me but that it went to voicemail. Most of the time, I don't
even hear the phone ring, and the actual call doesn't register.

Now yesterday, I did hear someone try calling me but when I tried answering,
it was as though nobody was calling. Very strange stuff going on. And, it
doesn't happen with all calls. I haven't messed with any settings that I
know of, and I have been using my phone as I always do. Very strange.

Good morning,

For a few weeks now, I have been dealing with a very annoying issue on my
phone. When I do something like swipe or other Voiceover gestures with my
finger, things start out OK, but after a few instances, there is a sort of
jump or crash that takes me one layer back or to the very top of where I
started, and I need to start over again. It is annoying when I'm looking at
something like a website or Social Media and then the jump happens.

Also, when I input text using Braille mode, I won't get more than two
sentences into what I'm writing, and then it jumps and changes modes, making
me need to go back to the rotar and go back to Braille mode.

I don't think that speed has much to do with what's going on, but I've tried
slowing down, which doesn't always work for me. I just know that something's
got to give because this continuous jumping around or going back a page or
layer doesn't make me productive at all!

Has this happened to anyone else? What might be happening here, and what can
I try to fix it? I've not seen this behavior until a few weeks ago.

Yeah, this does have a screen protector. I’ve never had issues like these in
the past. And, I keep my phone in a holster, and when I have it out, I am
fairly careful. It’s rare that it takes any kind of fall or gets hit by
anything. That is why I’m surprised at the latest goings on.

A well-applied glass screen protector has no negative effect on touch screen
sensitivity. You must be more careful than me with your phone, I have a very
nice leather belt holster which keeps my phone nice and safe when it's in it,
but I use my phone in all sorts of situations from when I am sitting on the
couch or at my desk to while I am walking or working in the garden or my
woodworking shop. Just this morning I went outside to the backyard while I was
holding my iPhone and I misjudged the distance to the first step down from the
deck and briefly lost my balance and my iPhone went flying. My deck is about 5
feet off the ground and I was holding it at railing height which is about 3 and
a half feet so it had a nice 8 foot or so drop onto concrete. Fortunately it
was lying on its back, but in a situation like that a good glass scren
protector can totally make the difference between having a broken screen or
not. I also have it in a relatively slim, but well made and drop-tested case so
it did not seem to come to any harm and at least as far as I can tell there
isn't a scratch on it. Glass screen protectors are quite inexpensive on Amazon
so I will definitely not go without and if it ends up not sitting perfectly on
the screen any more I can simply replace it.

Hi there,

It is not part of the case. It is glued to the phone.

Like I’ve said, I’d be surprised if it is the screen protector. I remember
getting it as soon as I got the phone, and I’ve never had issues with it. I
keep things clean, and if a cleaning needs to happen, I take care of it right

Two things, Have you cleaned your screen lately and do you use a screen
protector?

A dirty screen can have all sorts of weird effects and if you have screen
protector which is maybe not very good any more can also have negative effects.

Subject: iPhone not responding well to my touch gestures

Jim

RE: iPhone not responding well to my touch gestures

2023-07-10 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

I have never used a screen protector because I keep my phone in a shoulder bag
my wife custom made for it so it isn't banging against things in my pocket etc.
Screen protectors can cause the lack of sensitivity you are describing.

Yes sir. I have cleaned my screen a couple times, because I don’t like having
dirty hands when I use my phone. I know it happens, so I try and keep it clean.
I believe I’m using a screen protecter, but I’d have to check. I’ve had this
phone for about four years, so I honestly don’t remember. 

Two things, Have you cleaned your screen lately and do you use a screen
protector?
A dirty screen can have all sorts of weird effects and if you have screen
protector which is maybe not very good any more can also have negative effects.

Subject: iPhone not responding well to my touch gestures
