Re: Storage issues, upgrading, and voice memo transfers
Thanks for all the responses, guys. Wow, I didn't know there were different definitions/calculations of gigs. I installed and attempted to use battery doctor yesterday, and it seemed to help clear some cashed files, but that's about all. Ultimately, I think I'll just need a phone with a greater storage capacity, which is frustrating because it does feel rather early to be upgrading from a 6. Re: Storage issues, upgrading, and voice memo transfers
I've always assumed that that discrepancy in storage has to do with how hardware vendors define a gigabyte versus how an operating system defines a gigabyte. For example, a hardware vendor may use the decimal value for a gigabyte, so 16GB would be 16,000,000,000 bytes. Dividing this by one binary gigabyte gives 16,000,000,000 / 1,073,741,824 = 14.9GB, which still doesn't explain the difference, so I'm obviously wrong and there's something else going on here. In this case, Apple is both the hardware manufacturer and the operating system developer. Plus, I've read that MacOS uses the decimal definition of gigabyte. There is a free program called Battery Doctor. It is a bit challenging to use with Voiceover, but it can be done. It cleans up junk files and cleans up your battery's memory. I have been able to use it very successfully on my iPhone 6. On Friday, December 18, 2015 at 12:49:27 PM UTC-6, Shermeen Khan wrote: > > Thanks for your response, Sieghard. RE: Storage issues, upgrading, and voice memo transfers
Hi chermeen, I can't explain the difference in storage space and space available. One thing which would most likely fix this might be to set up the phone as a new phone and start over downloading your apps and so on. Of course you would want to make sure you save any pictures you may have first. As for the 6S I can say that it's definitely noticeable faster than my old 5S, probably you would notice a bit of a different compared to a 6, but possibly not with all things. As for backing up, you will get the most complete backup if you do an encrypted backup in iTunes, you should definitely get backups of your text messages and voice mails. And even if you didn't, the IOS 9 images only take a few hundred MB, so that wouldn't explain your storage shortage. Re: storage issues
Depends on what you're using your phone for. I have two iPhones at the moment, my personal phone with 16G and one from my employer with 8G. I've never wished for more space on my employer's phoneand seldomly on my personal phone. True, you should probably always get as much storage as you can afford, but there's no point in paying for storage you don't need either. Re: storage issues
If you have no music, books or other data, then something is going wrong. First reboot your phone and see if that helps. You may need to restore your phone to factory settings and reinstall your apps. RE: storage issues
Hi, have not used the iCloud drive yet on the phone so would have to play around with it to see if there was away. Now the drop box app when you first install it on the device it will ask you about photos and such and if you want to upload them to drop box. Also if you click on files in the drop box app and then go all the way to the top of the app to the left corner is actions and this will give you some options and one is to upload so I think even though I have never uploaded to drop box from the app you could brows your iPhone and upload documents and music and photos and so on to drop box. Not apps but your data you have on it. As for another way is to get your stuff off the phone to the computer and then upload to or copy to your drop box and iCloud drive from the computer. HTH BTW: I will play around with the iCloud drive app and see what I can find out if anything. Re: Storage issues still abound
I would call the Apple accessibility number. That said, there is an interesting issue with VO and some edit boxes in Safari. If you cannot get the edit box to open by flicking to it and double-tapping, find the actual edit box on the display and, whilst holding your finger on it, split-tap with another finger to activate it. Touching the display forces VO to remain focused on where the finger is rather than reacting to modern screen refreshes. so my question is this, I was looking to see how I could email Apple support about this issue, and I went onto the site, and first of all my topic wasn't listed but I found something that said no topic listed, so then they wanted to do a diagnostic, no problem, but I couldn't double tap on the edit box to put my phone number or email. So I assume then I have to call them, but do I called the accessibility one or the regular I think it's one 800 my apple or something. oh and by the way, it is not my email, I deleted what I could, and I still have 6.2 gigs it just won't go away! Re: Storage issues still abound
Do you have messages in your messages app? Regular text messages do not take up much space. I have several thousand messages in my messages app and, even with a few pictures, my messages app does not take up much space. That said, if you have MMS messages, video messages, sound recording messages, and so on, these types of messages and message attachments take up quite a large amount of space. If neither of the above is the case, you will need to work directly with Apple. Re: Storage issues still abound
You either need to go in to your email account and delete some messages or in to the messages app and delete some messages there. Fred Olver Author of Dealing with Vision Loss have a look it just makes sense. http://www.dealingwithvisionloss.com - Original Message - From: "Lelia Struve" To: Sent: Sunday, September 22, 2013 3:33 PM Subject: Storage issues still abound so, I am going to give you my details so I hope maybe I can get some help with this. I have an iPhone for S, running iOS 7, for some reason it is saying I have 6.2 gigs of messages. I restored my phone, I also went into settings, general, usage, and under each app in usage past storage, I looked at how many or how much documents and data each app pad. I even tried deleting some apps. interestingly enough when I restored my phone, before restoring I had about two gigs free. Now I have about five. But it still says I am using 6.2 GB of messages. I also tried I clean and it still didn't work. Any tips? Thanks much Lelia Sent from my iPhone -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the "VIPhone" Google Group.
