Re: "Do Not Disturb" question

2023-01-28 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Yes, for the past 15 months, the IOS operating system has transformed Do Not
Disturb into a more flexible system called focus.

You can have up to 10 focus types.
Focus can be enabled when a program starts, at a specific time or location, or
manually.
For each focus you can specify what apps can or cannot interrupt you and you
can also add a group of contacts that are blocked or unblocked. In IOS 16 also
added functionality that hides some items in apps like Mail and Messages.
I have a “reading” focus group that starts when I am in the books app or bard
and that blocks calls from people not in my contacts, and only allows three or
four application to sent me notifications.
Hope this helps in deciding how far down the control of notifications you want
to go.

RE: "Do Not Disturb" question

2023-01-28 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You can also pull up the control centre and find the "Focus" button. I believe
double tapping it turns on Do Not Disturb, if not if you flick down or up once
to "Open Controls" and then double tap you can choose to turn on any focus you
have set up, e.g. sleep, work etc. As Richard said, you can get very specific
with focus options and apart from the few that are there by default you could
set up your own and call it "Watching Sports" and then you could also allow
certain apps or people to get through, e.g. if you wanted a particular person's
phone calls or messages to get through you can do that.
I have configured my Sleep focus to turn on at 11 PM with a 30-minute "wind
down" time and to turn off at 7 AM. However, I have added my Mom, my brother
and a couple of other people as well as the monitoring phone number of my
store's alarm company to get through so if my Mom had some emergency at 2 in
the night and she called I wouldn't blissfully be unaware. I also set up the
Alarm.com app to deliver notifications as well as an app called "Aurora" which
sendds a notification if there is a good chance to see the Northern Lights
because my wife is from the Philippines and she has been here for 8 years and
so far never has seen the Northern Lights. I don't always hear the notification
tone, but hopefully one day I do and hopefully then it happens to be a clear
night and hopefully it isn't -30 out because it's not so much fun to get
dressed in the middle of the night when it's that cold and go stand outside
hoping the Northern Lights are doing their thing.

Thanks Richard. i only want to use it at night or when I'm watching sports or movies and listening to tunes. i guess I like my new phone. the old iphone 8 was heating up sometimes and it scared me into making this unwelcome purchase. Re: "Do Not Disturb" question

2023-01-28 Thread Richard Turner
Hi Duane,
What I do is tell Siri, turn on Do Not Disturb; then turn off do not disturb
when I'm done. The new settings for Do Not Disturb is under Focus and for what
you are talking about, I find it easier to just use Siri.
I suspect some kind of a routine could be set up that when x app is open, do
not disturb comes on. iam not sure.

I hope you are enjoying the new phone.
