Hello, Vario and Super Vario are not the same as RefreshaBraille. They are the same as HumanWare,. Hi Scot. The display I have problems with is my great brailiant 32 cells. Sometimes it suddenly loses conection, and it can be a little difficult to get it connected again. I have tried writing about it on some lists before, but people won't not discuss that problem. Do you mean, that I should try to turn of mobile data or wifi. I will try that, and come back to you. I know that the refresha braille displays also have some problems, because some people here in Denmark are using them too under the name vario and super vario. The strange thing is that a focus display does not make any problems at all. Best regards Annie. Re: A few new iPhone 5 features which have not been mentioned much
Hi Kevin and Others, This is a side-comment to the issue of micro-USB vs. new dock connectors, but I'd just like to point out that if you do have to use micro USB connectors, a small side benefit of getting products like the Jawbone Jambox or Big Jambox, or any of the Jawbone Blutooth headsets, is that they come with micro USB to USB connectors that has a flat bevel on one side so that you can tell which way to plug into a micro USB port by holding the plug. As a result, I use this connector for lots more items than my Jawbone devices. I agree with Sieghard that the lag in Bluetooth headsets is annoying, so I don't use the Bluetooth headset/phone function much. But I use the connector to charge my portable Wi-Fi hotspot, for example. As far as the new Bluetooth standard, the lower power usage that Kevin mentioned in another post is really going to be used for new classes of Bluetooth devices -- such as medical monitoring devices -- rather than more lag-free audio to headsets, though the latter might be coming, too. HTH. Richard, Very interesting, but I have the Apple keyboard. You know if the problems persist after iOS 6 rolls out, I'd like to get a lot of info from you. :) Brand of keyboard, Braille display, and so forth. GOing to get this issue resolved one way or the other. Scott, I've had pretty consistent problems with my blue tooth qwerty keyboard and Wi-Fi getting messed up after I've used it for a while. I have not noticed the same with the braille display. I will continue to track that and see what I can come up with. After iOS 6 comes out, I will be using braille more. Re: A few new iPhone 5 features which have not been mentioned much
Richard, I have had problems since back when related to the display not reconnecting, loosing WI-FI and so on. I can tell you that it seems to matter little at least for me using a 4S on AT&T when who gets turned on when. I do turn the display on first, but I have turned it off and back on while the phone is unlocked and in most cases it will reconnect. I have seen some cases where it never connected despite the sequence. The problem is the problem is not the same for everyone. I've tried to gather as much data as I could to share with Apple, but I have never been abel to gather enough data from folks to really be of any help. Of course anything anyone shares is welcome, but I need pretty specific steps and results. I have been working with APple on/off about this problem for a while and hope iOS 6 will have some of this resolved. If not I'm going to start a campaign. :) I want to use my display as much as possible, but I'm not going to make myself nuts either. :) On Sep 15, 2012, at 1:47 PM, Richard Turner wrote: > Hi Annie, > > Which braille display? > > Most of them, and I've tried several, you have to be sure of the sequence > you turn things off and on. > Once you have the display paired, before you turn off the display, lock the > phone, then turn off the display. > When you want to use them again, unlock the phone before turning on the > display. RE: A few new iPhone 5 features which have not been mentioned much
Hi Annie, Which braille display? Most of them, and I've tried several, you have to be sure of the sequence you turn things off and on. Once you have the display paired, before you turn off the display, lock the phone, then turn off the display. When you want to use them again, unlock the phone before turning on the display. In some cases, you may want to wait 10 or 15 seconds before turning on the display. Then, they should pair up again automatically. I had heard that early on with Verizon and the Braille pen, there were problems, but I thought that had been fixed by iOS 5.1.1. Re: A few new iPhone 5 features which have not been mentioned much
Hi Sieghard. The only reason I am asking, is that I have some problems with a braille display, that loses connection to the phone, it is not really to say, if the phone has the problem or the braille display. In your ears. Apple does not have any over-the-ear headphones to my knowledge. In fact not even sure they ever had such a beast. on earpods, do they go in your ears or over them? for me it's an important consideration in getting them or not. Re: A few new iPhone 5 features which have not been mentioned much
Sieghard, I know headphones are incredibly subjective, but somehow I doubt they will compare to the Bose headphones. I think if APple were to switch over to a silicone tip it would improve the headphones considerably. After using this arrangement with my Bose headphones I cannot imagine ever using anything else. You can say whatever you want about Bose and no not every product they turn out is a winner, but their headphones have thus far been the best that I have used. Of course there is always something better I'm sure. :) On Sep 15, 2012, at 9:23 AM, Sieghard Weitzel wrote: > Hi Annie, > > The iPhone 4S already had Bluetooth 4.0 which you really don't find devices > for yet, Apple is way ahead on this. RE: A few new iPhone 5 features which have not been mentioned much
Hi Annie, The iPhone 4S already had Bluetooth 4.0 which you really don't find devices for yet, Apple is way ahead on this. I actually don't know what, for example, a Bluetooth 4.0 headset or speaker would have that a Bluetooth 2.1 model doesn't have, but even the new Big Jambox which was only recently released has only Bluetooth 2.1 so either it's not a big deal for something like a speaker or device manufacturers maybe can't make a Bluetooth 4.0 device yet which has really good battery life or something like that. I am really hoping at some point that there would be a good Bluetooth headset which does not have the same tiny delay you seem to get with all Bluetooth devices and which I find extremely annoying and enough of a reason to stick to wired headsets. I actually just ordered the new ear pods which get very good reviews, the few I read all agree that they are a huge improvement over the original headset, one guy said they are every bit as good as his $130 Bose headset, another person said they are extremely comfortable and have very good sound quality etc. Regards, Sieghard -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Annie Skov Nielsen Sent: Saturday, September 15, 2012 6:11 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: A few new iPhone 5 features which have not been mentioned much Hi. I always hated plugging in anything that used micro USB. It seems to take way too much effort and exactness for something you do often. Ah, I see that now, thanks! Looks like it was more due to EU regulations than it was that they participated in the IEC's decision making process: http://www.tuaw.com/2011/10/04/apple-unveils-dock-to-micro-usb-adapter-to-comply-with-eu-standa/ On 14/09/12 16:56, Daniel Miller wrote: > They actually backed that, but only in Europe. > > -Original Message- > From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf > Of Christopher Chaltain > Sent: Friday, September 14, 2012 4:53 PM > To: viphone@googlegroups.com > Subject: Re: A few new iPhone 5 features which have not been mentioned much > > USB can carry video. They wouldn't want it to be that simple!... but having said that, this new lead is reversable, it goes in either way and works. That's what I read at least. Clarification: the little plug goes in either way up, that is a simplification. Yes, I think subway and pedestrian modes are still not supported. I believe I read that in a live blog at the time it was being introduced. Re: A few new iPhone 5 features which have not been mentioned much
I recall reading yesterday from the page on the Apple site that said what was in the box, that the smaller connector and an adapter will both be included with new iPhone 5's. I usually buy two chargers so I will probably get two adapters since I've got a couple of docks at home. It makes sense that Apple would include the adapters in the box with new iPhones since they know that many people have docks and other accessories they use with their phones. If they didn't include any sort of adapter, then we could say that they were out to make a buck. Re: A few new iPhone 5 features which have not been mentioned much
One item I also have not seen mentioned which will also be available on the 4S is the turn-by-turn maps. I guess I may be able to clear out my navigation folder, or maybe not. Fred Olver - Original Message - From: Sieghard Weitzel To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Thursday, September 13, 2012 12:01 PM Subject: A few new iPhone 5 features which have not been mentioned much Hello List, I don't think I came across many posts who mention a few additional iPhone 5 changes/improvements. First, the iPhone 5 has a new 9 PIN connector. This means if you have a music dock or even the Apple iPhone dock and iPhone cables you will not be able to use any of them with a new iPhone 5. Cables you can use if you buy an adapter, but I don't think this would work well for sticking your iPhone onto a dock. I think especially for some who have purchased expensive players like a Bose Soundlink or similar this "improvement" is not so cool. I would consider it an improvement though simply because I get the feeling the much smaller connector will be more stirdy and one very nice feature is the fact that it's reverseable which means it doesn' matter which way around you stick it in, it fits either way. Second, the iPhone 5 now has its headphone jack at the bottom where the dock connector is. Apple did not mention this specifically, but apparently Rob from the Today in iOS Podcast did confirm this. Third, a new iOS 6 camera feature (at least for the iPhone 5 and 4S) allows you to take a photo while you are recording video. Maybe not so much a feature many of us would use, but I think it's a nice feature as there might be a scene you want to capture as a photo while you are recording a video, now you can without stopping your video recording. I also just looked on the apple.com website under "iPhone" and "Built In Apps" and Podcasts was not mentioned unless I missed it. I have the feeling that this may not even be part of the initial iOS 6 release since Apple's Podcast app has shall we say received less than favourable reviews and ratings. Re: A few new iPhone 5 features which have not been mentioned much
I'm not sure it's true to say that no one was asking for a thinner phone. Android hand sets advertise their thinness, so I assume Apple was reacting to that competition. RE: A few new iPhone 5 features which have not been mentioned much
Hi Mark, It's 8 signal Pins + 1 ground, 9 in total. As far as Apple doing things their way, that has always been their way, they never ask and Steve Jobbs actually stated specifically that he doesn't put together user groups or does surveys to find out what people want since people don't know what they want until Apple tells them what they want. Anyhow, I can't see this adapter not being available all over the Internet and I would be surprised if Apple could legally block some outfit in China to make this thing and sell it on monoprice.com or similar sites for 5 bucks or at least for something a lot less than $30 or $35. One interesting titbit, in Europe, at least in EU countries, the iPhone is always sold with a 30-Pin to USB Micro adapter since somehow they have a law that says it has to be so. Personally, I think they're ridiculously over-priced and Apple isn't allowing any 3rd party vendors to create adaptors of their own for the time being, if ever. No one was really asking for the change or a thinner device so why do we have to pay to retro-fit things? As far as I know, no adaptor comes included with the phone, which would've been nice. Just to add some more info about the new connector (I thought it was eight pin, not nine... although the point is the same really.)
