Re: App that reports the nearest intersection

2016-01-19 Thread Wayne Merritt
thanks to those that have replied to my original query. I am looking
into Ariadne GPS and it looks like a good option. Now I just need to
get it to work the way that I want. Though it does not report the
nearest intersection, it can alert you when you approach and reach a
favorite point. I have set the bus stop that I get off at as a
favorite. I haven't been able to ride the bus since early last week so
I haven't tested this alert but I will get a chance to today. I will
also check out the native Maps app to see if that reports the nearest
intersection.

RE: App that reports the nearest intersection

2016-01-16 Thread Richard Turner

Yes, Apple Maps will do that while you are moving.
Blind Square has an option under Tools that will list nearby intersections and
tell you the approximate distance and direction. I have it set to clock face,
so for example:
51ST and SE Powell 205 feet at 7 o'clock. That is with my phone pointing north.
If I turn the phone and wait a few seconds, it will update the direction
without my moving.
It continues to list intersections on the screen so you can just slide your
finger down and find quite a few intersections around you in the comfort of
your own home.

Wayne, I have not used it a lot and not for a year or so, but I am pretty
sure that Transit Times does give the intersections. I do have the paid

Thanks Christina. The thing is, BlindSquare costs $30 and aside from
that one bit of information, I would not use it for any actual
traveling. Since I don't often go out and travel on my own, paying $30
for one feature in an app does not seem very worth it to me. If I need
driving direction for my wife to use in the car, then I will most
often use Google Maps.

Wayne, I hope someone here can point you in the direction of a more simple and
economical solution. I too would love an app to do this that is more economical
than blind square. I have been considering purchasing it for a long time but it
is a lot more than a couple of bucks. :) However, I do suggest that you check

The podcast actually shows the app in action on a bus. Listen to the podcast

I have not been out alone in months, however, before my husband passed I used
Blind Square, had it when we were walking or on tandem bike, it is cool, you
hear lots of stuff as you travel, found some places I'd never heard of before
only blocks away from home. Will probably use it soon again.
