RE: Braille Pen.

2016-03-19 Thread Edmonds, Lucy (LARA)
I understand that it can work with BARD, but my real question is how? I have
changed my settings on my iPhone in the Braille section, and no matter what I
try, the Braille in the BARD book comes out looking like computer Braille.

Braille settings do I need to use on my iPhone 6S?

HI Lucy.
I don't have one myself, but I don't believe you can reverse the panning
buttons. Below, I've pasted the section of the manual that has to do with
checking the battery status. Looks like the easiest way to do it is listen to
the second set of tones when the Braille Pen starts. There is also a way to
find it in the menu, again, see below for details. Anyway, I'm glad the NLS
files are now reading correctly.
Below is the info from the manual.
BraillePen12 sound signals
BraillePen12 communicates its status using high-pitched beeps. When you first
turn your BraillePen12 on, it give several beeps.
First you hear a single short beep to let you know that the BraillePen12 is on.
Then you hear a set of beeps to tell you the battery status.
The third set of beeps tells you that the BraillePen12's Bluetooth interface is
active and can make a connection with another device.
The sound for "BraillePen12 on" and the sound for "Bluetooth active"
don't change; the battery sounds will change depending on how much charge there
is. Here is the full list of battery status beeps:
One long beep, pause, three short beeps means that the unit is not connected to
the power and the battery is fully charged.
One long beep, pause, two short beeps means that the unit is not connected to
the power, and the battery is charged to half its capacity.
One long beep, pause, one long beep means that the unit is not connected to the
power, and that the battery is drained and needs to be recharged immediately.
Two mid-length beeps means that the unit is connected to power and the battery
is charging, but doesn't report on the state of the battery.
Two mid-length beeps, pause, three short beeps means that the unit is on
charge, and the battery is already fully charged.
BraillePen 12 Touch Settings and Test Menu BraillePen 12 Touch has its own
internal menu. It allows you to customize certain settings. To enter this menu,
press Space-Control
(Enter) within one second after having switched on the BraillePen 12 Touch. To
move to the next item in the menu, press Joystick Down; if you press Joystick
Up, you will go immediately to the bottom item in the menu, which is exit. Use
Joystick Down to step through the menu items.
The settings are as follows:
Battery indicator
Sleep time x minutes
Feedback beep
Cursor delay
Vibrate
Cell test
Key test
Cursors test
BT test (Bluetooth test)
Firmware version
Cbrd run
Exit
Some items in this menu show only the name on the menu with no parameters. You
can go into these items, where you will be able to test your BraillePen 12
Touch, or alter its settings. For these items, press Joystick Enter to enable
the settings or perform the test; press Joystick Up or down to alter settings,
and press Joystick Enter once more to confirm settings.

Menu items description:
Battery indicator:
this displays the percentage of battery life remaining.

Re: Braille Pen.

2016-03-19 Thread Scott Davert
HI Lucy.
Did you, by chance, find your new Braille Pen from the Blind Bargains
ad posted last week? Just curious. Smiles.
You will need to turn on 8-dot mode for your output braille code when
reading braille material from NLS on your iPhone, assuming you are
running iOS 8 or later. Press space with G on your Braille Pen until
you reach 8-dot mode. Then, if you have some other setting for every
other app, just press space with G again until you reach that mode
once you are finished reading the NLS material.

Hope this hhelps,
Scott

RE: Braille Pen.

2016-03-19 Thread Edmonds, Lucy (LARA)
Hi Scott. It worked! I was able to read a book from BARD! I do have a couple
more questions you might be able to answer. First, how can I tell how full the
battery is on the Braille Pen? Second, is there a way to reverse the navigation
keys so that the one on the left side makes the display go forward, and the one
on the right makes it go back? I had it set up that way on my old Braillenote
PK, and it seemed to work out better for me.
Thanks a lot for your help.

HI Lucy.
Did you, by chance, find your new Braille Pen from the Blind Bargains ad posted
last week? Just curious. Smiles.
You will need to turn on 8-dot mode for your output braille code when reading
braille material from NLS on your iPhone, assuming you are running iOS 8 or
later. Press space with G on your Braille Pen until you reach 8-dot mode. Then,
if you have some other setting for every other app, just press space with G
again until you reach that mode once you are finished reading the NLS material.

Hope this hhelps,
Scott

Re: Braille Pen.

2016-03-19 Thread Scott Davert
HI Lucy.
I don't have one myself, but I don't believe you can reverse the
panning buttons. Below, I've pasted the section of the manual that has
to do with checking the battery status. Looks like the easiest way to
do it is listen to the second set of tones when the Braille Pen
starts. There is also a way to find it in the menu, again, see below
for details. Anyway, I'm glad the NLS files are now reading correctly.
Below is the info from the manual.
BraillePen12 sound signals
BraillePen12 communicates its status using high-pitched beeps. When
you first turn your BraillePen12 on, it give several beeps.
First you hear a single short beep to let you know that the BraillePen12 is on.
Then you hear a set of beeps to tell you the battery status.
The third set of beeps tells you that the BraillePen12's Bluetooth
interface is active and can make a connection with another device.
The sound for "BraillePen12 on" and the sound for "Bluetooth active"
don't change; the battery sounds will change depending on how much
charge there is. Here is the full list of battery status beeps:
One long beep, pause, three short beeps means that the unit is not
connected to the power and the battery is fully charged.
One long beep, pause, two short beeps means that the unit is not
connected to the power, and the battery is charged to half its
capacity.
One long beep, pause, one long beep means that the unit is not
connected to the power, and that the battery is drained and needs to
be recharged immediately.
Two mid-length beeps means that the unit is connected to power and the
battery is charging, but doesn't report on the state of the battery.
Two mid-length beeps, pause, three short beeps means that the unit is
on charge, and the battery is already fully charged.
BraillePen 12 Touch Settings and Test Menu
BraillePen 12 Touch has its own internal menu. It allows you to
customize certain settings. To enter this menu, press Space-Control
(Enter) within one second after having switched on the BraillePen 12
Touch. To move to the next item in the menu, press Joystick Down; if
you press Joystick Up, you will go immediately to the bottom item in
the menu, which is exit. Use Joystick Down to step through the menu
items.
The settings are as follows:
Battery indicator
Sleep time x minutes
Feedback beep
Cursor delay
Vibrate
Cell test
Key test
Cursors test
BT test (Bluetooth test)
Firmware version
Cbrd run
Exit
Some items in this menu show only the name on the menu with no
parameters. You can go into these items, where you will be able to
test your BraillePen 12 Touch, or alter its settings. For these items,
press Joystick Enter to enable the settings or perform the test; press
Joystick Up or down to alter settings, and press Joystick Enter once
more to confirm settings.

Menu items description:
Battery indicator:
this displays the percentage of battery life remaining.

2016-03-15 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I'd be surprised if this ever happens. BARD gives you access to the US
Library of Congress Talking Books material, which is available to US
citizens. I'd assume that if it ever becomes available in stores outside
of the US store it would be fore US citizens living in foreign countries.

Subject: braille pen

Does anybody use the basic braille pen with an iphone? Since
it provides
for braille input but doesn't actually provide a braille
display, does
anybody find it advantageous just for the input method? I
know that
sometimes I can type faster in grade two braille but I
wondered if this
would make it worth buying the product or whether it is
better just to
continue to wait until I can afford the kind of braille
display I really
want, which will be something probably with more cells than
the braille
pen 12.

Re: braille pen question

2012-04-19 Thread Stacey Robinson
Sure,
If your contractions are off and you want to use computer braille and capital
letters, press dots 2 3 and the key to the right of space.
To enter a capital letter hold down the shift key which is the key to the left
of space and type the letter you want capitalized.
Hope this helps some.

 not in contracted mode?

 Thanks in advance.
