Debbie, the first step is to get your voice memos transferred to iTunes where
they should be easily convertible to mp3 format using iTunes. The below link
has a good article on how to transfer the voice memos from your phone to iTunes:

http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/6403/iphone-transfer-voice-memos-from-iphone-to-computer/

Here is the text from that article:

The ability to quickly record voice memos on the iPhone is a frequently
overlooked feature. Furthermore, figuring out how to import these files from
your iPhone to your computer can be tricky. Here are a couple of ways of
getting your voice memos off your phone and onto your computer.

The voice memo feature is very interesting. I've seen it used from everything
to sweet messages to one's spouse to quick voice recorder for lectures or
interviews.

Once you have a voice memo recorded, there are two main ways of transferring
the voice memo to your computer.

  1. Via iTunes

iTunes will transfer voice memos once you enable that setting.

  1. Dock your iPhone via USB

  2. Click the name of your iPhone under Devices in the left column

  3. Click the Music tab

  4. Click the checkbox for Include voice memos

  5. Sync your device

  6. Your files will appear under a new Voice Memos playlist

  7. You can right-click on a memo to perform advanced tasks or gain access to
the actual audio file.

If you are having difficulty, several people in the comments below have
recommended these additional steps:

  - Unplug iphone from the computer after the failed sync

  - In iTunes, select File -> Library -> Organize Library -> Consolidate files

  - Plug in the iphone & sync again.

  2. Direct Share from Phone

You can also email or MMS the voice memo directly from your phone. If you
only have a few files, emailing them may be a good option.

  1. From the voice memo screen click the silver button in the lower right
corner. This will take you to a list of your voice memos.

  2. Select the voice memo you want to share and press the large blue share
button at the bottom right of the screen.

  3. Select Email or MMS

Once the voice memo files are in iTunes, you can select them in the song list
and convert them to mp3 under the File menu.

RE: Converting M4A files?

2013-03-08 Thread Donald Moore
I've used Switch too with few problems. TuneConvert is another fairly
useful program that will convert allot of files fairly accessibly, but it
costs. If you do allot of conversion though and have allot of different
sources, it makes the process a little more cost effective.

I used Switch all of the time back when I was a Windows user. It was my
audio conversion utility of choice. I remember that with one of the updates,
the tab key stopped tracking the item on the interface but the pull down
menus and hot keys still worked as before. Just giving my perspective so no
one writes Switch off too prematurely.

This was my original reason for posting the instructions on using iTunes for

I'll take a look, thanks for letting me know. I'm trying to find something like
that, to put files on my iPhone since I've completely dropped windows at home
and run straight OS10 now, so just checking. Thanks and sorry to interrupt the
flow of everything, but was just curious. Thanks.

Are you trying to use switch from your iPhone? Or? Are you getting the files
on to your computer?

I assume you see Switch in the File pull down for other file formats? It
could be that the free version of Switch only supports the M4A file format
on the Mac. Don't take my word for that. Look it up on line or check the
documentation.

Yes, there is a version of Switch for the Mac. I think it's from a
company called NCH. You should be able to find it by searching for Swift
audio conversion or something else reasonable.

RE: Converting M4A files?

I use Switch and Oxelon. Oxelon is free and at least for Jaws, it is
accessible.

I used Switch all of the time back when I was a Windows user. It was my
audio conversion utility of choice. I remember that with one of the updates,
the tab key stopped tracking the item on the interface but the pull down
menus and hot keys still worked as before. Just giving my perspective so no
one writes Switch off too prematurely.

iPhone and I wonder if I can convert them to MP3 files.

Thanks.

Re: Converting M4A files?

2013-03-06 Thread Cara Quinn
Sure Debbie, terminal is a command line interface on the Mac which allows you
to work with the Mac's operating system in many ways which are not possible
from the desktop.

for what you want to do though, if the other lister who answered you is correct
that Audacity will allow you to save mp3 files and it's free, then that would
be the way to go!
There's a way to do this in Terminal but if Audacity will do this then it will
be a lot easier.

Have a great day!

Smiles,

Cara :)
