Hello Mary,
And voice dream reader, open audio settings, advanced audio settings while
a text book is loaded. You can make your changes there. It does not work
with the iOS voices, but it does work with the other voices you can
purchase.

Re: Dolphin easy reader, your thoughts?

2017-06-13 Thread Dave

This is to Marie, who is further down this thread, who talks about american
taxes paying for NLS audio books, and how they should not be available to
other blind people, who are not in America.

Well here is my view on that subject.

I think as blind people, who are all around this world of ours, and do not
have the access, that sighted readers have.

all our respective blind societies, should be able to share our catalogues,
and make them available to all.

The same goes to Audible, which give access to different books, depending in
which country we are in.

I would be happy to pay a fair subscription, to be able to have access, to
as many audio books as i can.

I am in the UK, and have many talking books available to me, through the
RNIB library, and i wouldn't mind at all, if they were made accessible, to
other blind and visually impaired persons around the world, regardless of my
UK taxes paying for it.

Dave.

Hello Mary,
And voice dream reader, open audio settings, advanced audio settings while a
text book is loaded. You can make your changes there. It does not work with the
iOS voices, but it does work with the other voices you can purchase.

As a tax payer, I'm not too worried about people who aren't blind using
BARD. I do think it's important though that the NLS work with
publishers, especially audio book publishers, to keep BARD books from
being too widely distributed and impacting the sales of audio books.

Voice Dream has many great features too that I'm sure they drew on in

If you wait a little while, you may find Voice Dream Reader also will

Hi,

there is newe book reader on appstore called dolphin easy reader, free,
it only requires of login using a dolphin account or sign up for a new
one, also free of charge.

What I find interesting is that while on this new app you can set up a
longer pause in between sentnces (using ios voices), the last VDR update
is uncapable of doing the same thing.

yeah, of course this app needs to be improved, but checking it out
rapidly its interface and settings is really basic and complete at the
same time for being free of charge.

This feature, add a longer pause in between sentences (for ios voices)
is very helpful if you are trying to learn another language.

Hi Greg,
When you say voice dream reader can change the length of a pause at the end of
the line, do you mean a line or sentence? If it's a line, I'm not interested.
If it is a sentence, that's a whole different deal. Somehow I missed that
change. Where should I look for that? Thank you.

In the latest version of the voicedream reader app on iOS it does have the

Re: Dolphin easy reader, your thoughts?

2017-06-12 Thread Mary Otten
Thanks, Anna. Well I really like voice dream now again, since they sorted out
the problem with the UI being so sluggish when cloud sync is enabled. But the
one thing I am noticing is that when reading nonfiction books, with my
preferred James voice, I would like to have a little bit more pause after
sentences. They're not run on. But there closer to run on then I would like. So
I guess I will check out dolphin and see how that works

Re: Dolphin easy reader, your thoughts?

2017-06-12 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi Mary,

They have a lot of voices available for purchase, and you can use any iOS voice
that you've downloaded, so you have plenty of choice. I had no trouble playing
a Bookshare book. I think it's a great option for people who can't afford Voice
Dream Reader and want access to libraries. It's not as good with a braille
display as Voice Dream Reader because it shows each sentence separately, rather
than showing longer blocks of text. It also doesn't let you import books or
play straight MP3 files. It also doesn't work with the headphone controls, so
you can't use your headphones to back up a few seconds and such. It's a great
first version, though, and it should be helpful to a lot of people.

Best,
Anna

Re: Dolphin easy reader, your thoughts?

2017-06-12 Thread Mary Otten
Hi Anna,
I admit I have not follow this thread with all that much care, so I could've
missed it. I assume you have use this app, and I'm wondering how you like it
compared with Voice Dream. I recall someone sending a message that said the app
kept crashing in a bookshare book. And someone else said they liked the fact
that you could adjust the pauses between sentences, which sounds like a really
good thing that I wish VDR would do. When I looked at the in app purchases, it
seemed like there is just one voice, that's based on what I saw in the App
Store. So I guess you can't use your VDR voices, which is understandable, but
worse is that if there's just the one voice. Anyway, curious what you think of
the app compared to voice dream.

Hi Maria,

No, I don't think there's a way to import files. You need to download them from
the libraries you are a member of, such as Bookshare and NFB Newsline.

I don't believe the NLS books should ever be readable in any other app
besides the Bard Mobile. This is a service given to the handicapped in the

It looks interesting.
I did not check what they charge for the non-iOS voices.
Voice Dream has many great features too that I'm sure they drew on in their
development.
If you wait a little while, you may find Voice Dream Reader also will allow
for adjusting the pause between sentences.

At this point, I'll stick with Voice Dream as I like its layout, but this is
a good option for a lot of folks. It is good to see they work with
Bookshare as well.

Though, I have to question their claim to having the largest accessible
library...

Hi,

there is newe book reader on appstore called dolphin easy reader, free,
it only requires of login using a dolphin account or sign up for a new
one, also free of charge.

RE: Dolphin easy reader, your thoughts?

2017-06-10 Thread Greg Wocher
Hello,
I had a very hard time with this app getting a bookshare book to even read. I
hit the play button but it seems to only read about one page at a time. Granted
I did not stay in the app very long so it might be me that caused this issue. I
will have to give it more time to see if it works.

Regards,
Greg Wocher

Hi,

there is newe book reader on appstore called dolphin easy reader, free,
it only requires of login using a dolphin account or sign up for a new
one, also free of charge.

Though, I have to question their claim to having the largest accessible
library...
