Re: Efficiently using Facebook

2014-12-16 Thread Teresa Cochran
Hi, Mary,

I use a combination of the app and the mobile site. I find that when I read
through notifications with the site, everything that's a link says "link" and
slows the process down, though I do admit that the site is more transparent.

The app has a lot of nested stuff, so you have to double-tap on something to
reveal more features, etc.

To get to a group with the app, you go to the "more" tab on the bottom. Under
the groups heading, you'll find the groups that you've posted to most recently.
If you double-tap one of these, you will go to the group page. At this point,
you can press the post button and you'll post to the group. You can
double-check this by reviewing your post, which will show you your audience and
other info.

HtH,
Teresa

Hi Teresa,
I really wasn't aware of Facebook groups, but I have already joined two of them
and posted to one. I found I had to use the actual mobile site. I wasn't able
to find a way to post to a group using the iOS app. I still don't see myself
spending lots of time, but it looks like the mobile site is the best way to go
for efficiency, since everything is set off by headings, and it is actually
possible to see the name of the group and then post. Are you using the mobile
site or an application?

When I joined Facebook in 2010, I looked at all the privacy settings, and
turned off its ability to post to search engines. I also don't allow anyone to
add me except a friend of a friend. It's very hard to find my Facebook page. If
you're simply going to read and not post, you may not have to set very many of
these privacy settings, but you might work on it bit by bit, in case you decide

The only way Facebook can gain access to your contacts is if you tell it to

Re: Efficiently using Facebook

2014-12-13 Thread Kimberly
The Facebook app for the iPhone works very well. There are some limitations,
but if all you want to do is read then they shouldn't bother you too much.

Re: Efficiently using Facebook

2014-12-13 Thread Kliph
Using the face book integration on the mac will not work for this. If you use
iCloud, you can create an alias to use with face book under your iCloud
account. ON the other hand, there are 2 very accessible desk top apps for the
mac.
Menu tab pro. I bought it back in 2011 and it was 2 bucks. Don’t know what it
cost now. There is another that just came out a couple weeks ago. It’s called
current for face book.
if you type current in the search box on the mac app store, it should be the
first result you get. HTH

Frustrated with your Mac, I-device, or AppleTV? New user and want quick
efficient answers? Or maybe you know apple products and want to contribute?
Then come join a list where questions are always answered, and we are always
patient with you.

I am someone who has steadfastly refused to join Facebook. However, I find
that there are a few individuals or groups I would like to follow, and they
are posting only to Facebook. So, the question. What is the most efficient
way, using an iPhone or a Mac, to read things you want to read, minimize the
junk, and minimize privacy problems? What app works best? I don't want to
post. I just want to follow those few individuals or groups whose ideas and
posts interest me. Any help is greatly appreciated.

RE: Efficiently using Facebook

2014-12-13 Thread Richard Turner
I am not a facebook user.
But, I would create a separate Email that you will only use for facebook.
Make sure not to give facebook access to your contacts if that is possible.
I'm sure there is information about maximizing privacy out there. I just
haven't gone into depth.

Good luck,
Richard
