Hi Traci, We recommend to all of our customers whether they purchase directly through us or one of our resellers to make sure that their phone is completely clean prior to applying their screen protector. This applies even for screen protectors without tactile markings. If you put it on straight, with no corners hanging over, it will last much longer. Putting it on crooked or onto a screen which is not free of dust, oils, lint or debris of any kind, will cause it to peel. We have had customers tell us that they like to switch between their standard and advanced models, so they'll remove one, clean the phone with glass cleaner and dry it with the lint free cleaning cloth we provide, and stick the old one to a shelf or place on their desk, and put on the other one. This, without having them peel. Also, if you purchase it from us directly, (I cannot speak for any of our resellers,) we will replace them if they peel if they peel within a month of purchasing. Honestly, if our instructions are followed for insuring screen cleanliness and it is applied straight, there's no reason why the protector will not stay in place. We've had over 1,800 in circulation since July of last year, and very few replacements. Also, just FYI: We do tell folks that if they are in any way uncomfortable with sticking the screen protectors onto their device that by all means, have someone assist you with this process. It is however, possible to do it without vision. My partner and I who own the company, as well as a friend of ours who helps us make them, are all totally blind, and have applied many screen protectors on iPods and iPhones and done it right the first time. Point is, it can be done; though I don't blame anyone for not wanting to try it! *smile* Amy Billman Check out my company for your screen protector and phone accessory needs! Hi all, I went through some of the viPhone archives and read about folks using the speed dots screen covers. I was hoping to get some more feedback on the 2 models. If I understand them correctly, 1 model has all the letters covered with dots except f&j, and the other model has f&j covered. Both models have the other dots sprinkled around. I'm curious who is using which one and if they feel they are worth it. For those of you using the model where nearly all the letters are covered, are you able to text without really paying attention to voiceover? Say for example, you are in a noisy place. My last concern is the screen placement and longevity. I read a handful of messages where folks couldn't get their screens to stick and stay in place. How annoying for a $10 purchase. Any further thoughts on this? Is it a good idea to take the cover to Verizon and have them fit it? Thanks for the info. In a perfect world I'd have a braille display, but $10 is far more realistic then $1700. :) Traci Sent by Macbook Air Mail -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the "VIPhone" Google Group. Re: More feedback on speed dots?
Amy, thank you for the directions and advice. I bought mine directly from you guys. Wow, it is possible to switch between the 2 models? I would have figured the adhesive would lessen. I'll make sure my phone is good and clean. We can clean our iPhones with glass cleaner? I imagine one would need to be especially careful with that. Thanks again, I'm looking forward to this. Traci PS. I can vouch for these specific protectors as well as most other good ones which aren't super-thin. What Amy says is correct in that anyone can attach these, but by all means, get help if you are not comfortable with it. The worst thing to have are bubbles on after installing one, but with the Speed Dots ones, I haven't had any bubble trouble, and it's worked perfectly. Since I don't do as much typing as I thought I would, I've considered switching to the lesser dot model because I still like the placement of key dots in areas for various apps which allow me to find things quickly. I play the games from Storm8 and the buy more button is always located on or just under the dot 5 and this really helps. With many audio player apps, the play button is usually near or around the G button and that's also a huge time saver. -- Raul A. Gallegos An optimist sees melting snow. Re: More feedback on speed dots?
Hi, I tried with SpeeDots but really didn't like them. In feeling for the dots I found I slowed down and listened to what I didn't want to hear ... All a bit confusing I thought! Perhaps it was because I had been typing without dots for a few months so I soon went back to that method of working. -- Carol P Original Message From: Traci To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Thursday, May 10, 2012 6:29 PM Subject: More feedback on speed dots? > Hi all, > > > I went through some of the viPhone archives and read > about folks using the speed dots screen covers. > > > I was hoping to get some more feedback on the 2 models. > If I understand them correctly, 1 model has all the > letters covered with dots except f&j, and the other model > has f&j covered. re: More feedback on speed dots?
Hi list, just to weigh in hear, I have had mine on since getting the 4s in I think november or end of october last year, it has shown no sign of coming off at all, and the dots seem to be standing up quite well to being taken in and out of pockets etc. I have the version with all the dots labeled. Firstly, I didn't get anyone sighted to help me put it on the screen, I used the hole which goes over the home button as a guide and was able to hook it over the button and then just wiggle it slightly to sort lining up out. Interestingly though, when sighted people have looked at my screen, they have commented that the dots are not quite lined up with the icons, as far as I can tell, the protector is on straight, at least the holes that go over the home button and part that you put to your ear seem to be lined up. So if it is on crooked it must be a tiny amount that isn't noticeable by touch, unless of course the screen layout relative to the position of the dots has changed minutely with the 4s. Now, on to usefulness, I have to be honest, I don't really find the protector that useful, the only real reason I keep it on the phone is to keep the screen clean, and I suppose if I wanted to, I could buy a normal clear protector that would serve just as well. I got both models when getting the protector, as I really wasn't sure which one I would need, but the second is still in its unopened packet. The reason I don't find the protector as useful as I thought I might, is mostly because I use a bluetooth keyboard for texting, I just couldn't be bothered to mess around with the virtual keyboard for that, as I moved from a tradition of nokia communicators all of which had physical quwerty keyboards. So I have never learned to text in the traditional way with an ordinary keypad. I also use the bluetooth keyboard for dialing phone numbers from scratch when not on a call. If I have to dial numbers internally on a call, I just take the phone away from my head and flick across the screen to find the one I need on the keypad rather than trying to aim for it in particular. I do find the 4 buttons on the bottom useful for locating the individual icons in the dock, but I think I would manage that quite easily without them. Out of interest, what are the other dots useful for finding that aren't letters? I usually just get by by flicking from control to control, but if the other dots really do help with navigation I may see if I find using them more efficient. the dots I am thinking of that I never use are the row of 3 on the top, with the dot right below the line of 3 on the right hand side with no other dots near it. the end nearest to the sleep wake button. the other dot which I don't use marks the center of the screen. In fact, in all the time I have been using the phone, I have never had any need to particularly find the center of the screen. any feedback on my navigation style is welcome, I suspect most of you reading this will be comparing me to a sighted person who can't touch type and just pecks at the keyboard with two fingers, as I suspect my navigation method of constant flicking is far from efficient. I look forward to any replies, Alex. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the "VIPhone" Google Group. Re: More feedback on speed dots?
Hi Tracie, I have the other model, the one with dots on the f and j, and others sprinkled around -- sprinkled in very helpful places, I might add! I love the tactile overlay. Using it has increased my typing speed dramatically, and although I, too, rely on being able to hear with VoiceOer, even this limited number of tactile indicators is extremely helpful, and usually, because of the overlay, when I hit a key, it turns out that I've hit the key I wanted to hit in the first place! I have been using the overlay since last summer without losing it or having it fall off (knock on wood!) RE: More feedback on speed dots?
Traci, I have the standard model with dots on all the letters except for f and j. I do find having it quite helpful. However I'm not sure I'd go as far as to say I'd be totally comfortable with absolutely no VO feedback. Note that I do have clicks turned off and have keyboard voice set to none but I do get a confirmation when placing my finger on a letter. Honestly, I've never tried it as I would normally be wearing a BT headset when out in a noisy place and using my phone. Regarding longevity, I've had mine on for several months with no issues. I do highly recommend you have a sighted person put it on the screen for you however to avoid bubbles, and to make sure everything lines up properly. Re: More feedback on speed dots?
Hi, I use the one with more dots. I find it very helpful even in noisy environments, but still like the voice to be heard to be sure. As for sticking or not sticking, if you find that it doesn't stick, you can go to a room full of steam, such as the bathroom when the shower is running and the door is closed, and you can re-affix the screen protector. -- Raul A.
