Re: Navigation question using BrailleSense OnHand.

2012-09-26 Thread Veronica Elsea
Yes, you are correct. At least in my BrailleSense OnHand, to move
horrizontally I use dots 1 or 4 with the space bar. To move vertically,
I use dots 3 or 6 with the space bar. If you haven't already done so,
you have to add vertical navigation to the rotor. Then that's where the
rotor choice must be in order for this to work. So, for instance, I was
just playing hanging with Friends. First I moved the rotor to hints and
enabled them. Then I moved the rotor to vertical navigation and went on
with my game. It did make it much faster to jump around the screen. Made
my day!

2012-09-24 Thread Richard Turner
You can control the rotor from the braille display:
Space-bar plus dots 5,6 turns the rotor clockwise, space-bar plus dots 2,3
turn it counter-clockwise.
Space-bar plus dot 3 goes to the previous rotor setting and space-bar plus
dot 6 goes to the next rotor setting.

Re: Navigation question using BrailleSense OnHand.

2012-09-24 Thread Scott Davert
hi Veronica.
To answer your navigation question about moving across the screen,
there is no way that I know of to move quickly across the screen with
a braille display. Sometimes, it's just faster to hit the touch
screen. Or, for example, you can use space with L to go to the top or
space with 4-5-6 to get to the bottom of the screen. Those are really
the only ways of navigating around the home screen.

Re: Navigation question using BrailleSense OnHand.

2012-09-24 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi, I don't have a Braille display to try this on, but if you know the
app you want is the third one, can't you use the vertical navigation
from the rotor? So, this way you start on the top left, move right two
times and then down once?

hi Veronica.

Subject: Navigation question using BrailleSense OnHand.

Hi everyone!
Well, there are many major complaints I have about IOS 6, but I'm trying to
make up for them by pairing my BrailleSense OnHand with my iphone 4S.
I have done that and am now learning the VO braille commands. Okay, very
nice when writing messages. But here's my question. Is there any way to
move
around the screen besides just going item to item to item? So, if I'm
looking for an app that's in the third row and third column, is there no
option other than using space-dot 4 to go through the first row, the second
row and then into the third till I find my app? I get than in Safari, at
least I can change the rotor to do some things. So I'm enjoying reading
things in braille, but I am finding it rather slow and inefficient. Do most
of you do some of the navigation just on the phone itself and use the
braille commands when it suits? Thanks.

Veronica

Re: Navigation question using BrailleSense OnHand.

2012-09-24 Thread David Chittenden
Yes, up and down arrows move VO to the next rotor item. In the home screens,
this gives vertical movement with up and down arrows. In apps, it is
inconsistent, which makes sense because it depends on coding.

Wow, I never even thought of that! Thank you David! It makes moving
around the home screen a bit faster!

Set your rotor to vertical navigation. You will then be able to navigate the
grid in all 4 directions. iPhone was designed to be navigated on the
display. That is your fastest option.
