RE: Need to replace iPhone 8 looking for pros/cons of iPhone 11 vs iPhone X
I am not replacing my SE for a few months, but as for the Home Button and not having it, here is what I figure. I learned to use a touch screen. I can learn to use one without a Home Button. I wonder what other kind of strange change is eventually in store for us down the road? I am sorry this probably is not helpful to your quandary, but just a comment from a fellow iPhone user. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Donald Raikes Sent: Tuesday, November 19, 2019 12:22 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Need to replace iPhone 8 looking for pros/cons of iPhone 11 vs iPhone X Hi, Recently my Iphone 8 has been suffering from some battery issues (not holding a charge), plus two weeks ago the screen cracked, so it looks like it is time to upgrade my phone. According to verizon, I can get an iPhone 11 64gb for the same monthly payment I am making now on the iPhone 8. My questions are: 1. Have enough of the bugs been shaken out of the iPhone 11 series to make it a reasonable choice? 2. Would the iPhone X series be a better choice? How hard is it to get used to not having an actual home button? I know that the iPhone X/XR/XS don't have the actual home button, and a friend let me try her ipad without the home button and it seemed difficult to navigate without the physical button. Also, which case would everyone suggest for the 11 or X depending on which I get? Any suggestions/reccommendations are greatly appreciated. -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list. Re: Need to replace iPhone 8 looking for pros/cons of iPhone 11 vs iPhone X
Actually I thought the same kind of thing just after I wrote that question in the email :) Going from a keyboard to a touch screen is probably a bigger change than simply dealing with not having the physical button on the phone, so I will forge ahead. RE: Need to replace iPhone 8 looking for pros/cons of iPhone 11 vs iPhone X
Hello Don, Well, you ask an interesting question. Now, this is just my opinion but, were I, you, I would go to the Apple Store and purchase a new unlocked iPhone 8 / 8 Plus and be done with it. It is my hope that next year will see a new set of hardware interactive features Added to iPhone. Again, this is just my opinion and Lord knows, I've been wrong in the past. So, as for me, as long as Apple continues selling a model with a traditional Home button, I will probably continue to buy it. Having said this, I do use an iPhone 11 and it is a very nice model. The sound quality is excellent and after a few days, one can definitely begin to get used to the lack of a traditional Home button. Re: Need to replace iPhone 8 looking for pros/cons of iPhone 11 vs iPhone X
If I may, when I first considered getting the iPhone xs I wasn't sure about the lack of a home button either. However, after having made the switch, I could never go back. The gestures in place are quite intuitive. Face id is much faster than touch id. All around, it's a much better experience. Granted there are times face id doesn't register, but that's like once out of 50. The iPhone 8 is also slower than newer models. I wouldn't buy the same thing you already have. I also need to replace my phone, but unlike you, my screen is still working, what ever scratches there are on the phone doesn't affect the screen. Regardless, I am personally waiting to see if Apple is going to release this new S.E. in the new year, that way, I've got a new phone and it's the same form factor as the 8. If your phone is non-functional, you may have no choice, but if your phone is functional, you may want to wait. Re: Need to replace iPhone 8 looking for pros/cons of iPhone 11 vs iPhone X
I really like my iPhone 8. I don't think it is slow at all. I can download bard books pretty quickly even though our wifi isn;'t the best. It doesn't seem slow to me at all. I've only had my iPhone 8 for a few months and I've still got a lot to learn, but I can put audio books or described movies on my phone thanks to voice dream reader, and the bard mobile app is great. I really like my google assistant and my google play music. It is very cool when I'm out and about if I want to listen to my favorite song or artist, to just bring up google assistant and listen to my music or internet radio station just like I would on my full sized google home. The quality of phone calls and being to use a bluetooth speaker for calls and audio book playback is also a lot of fun. I'm waiting to see about the SE too, because of its size. RE: Need to replace iPhone 8 looking for pros/cons of iPhone 11 vs iPhone X
Hi Donald, If your phone is no longer under Apple Care I would ask the store for a repair quote, but don't just let them do it. Also look for a third-party repair place in your city with good ratings and then ask them, chances are that especially if you are in a bit of a bigger city you can get the battery and screen replaced for a lot less. I broke the screen on my iPhone 8 which I only got less than a year ago and in this case I had Apple do it even though I didn't buy Apple Care Plus which would have covered such a repair, but I live in a very small town and I was in Vancouver for only 1 day flying in early and flying out at night. During that time I was at a retail trade show and I had only time to grab a taxi to the nearby mall which has an Apple Store, leave the phone for the repair and pick it up on my way to the airport. The repair was $195 Canadian before taxes for my iPhone 8, if you have also an iPhone 8 and not an 8 Plus then I assume it will probably be something like $149 in the US and yes, that is a lot cheaper than a new phone and if you add a new battery it's probably an extra $50 so with $200 you probably end up with an iPhone 8 in great shape which will do you for the next 3 or 4 years if you really want to keep it that long. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Donald Raikes Sent: Wednesday, November 20, 2019 7:20 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Need to replace iPhone 8 looking for pros/cons of iPhone 11 vs iPhone X Brian, Great advice. Re: Need to replace iPhone 8 looking for pros/cons of iPhone 11 vs iPhone X
Hi, Over the past year that I’ve had my iPhone 8 it has run hot, which, by the way, is not uncommon. Consequently the battery swelled and the left side of the screen above the mute switch and volume controls separated from the chassis just enough that I could insert a fingernail. I don’t have Apple Care but that’s not a problem in this case. At the Apple store, I was told that even though my phone was out of warranty, Apple would repair or replace the phone at no charge. Apple took the phone, sent it somewhere and gave me a loaner to use while my phone was being checked out. Turns out my iPhone 8 was easily fixed and returned to the Apple store. I got an e-mail saying it was ready for pickup and next day I was able to exchange the loaner for my phone. Had I been faced with a costly repair I probably would have upgraded to an iPhone 11, depending on what AT&T would charge me per month. > On Nov 20, 2019, at 2:46 PM, Sieghard Weitzel wrote: > > If you really end up upgrading then by all means get the 11 or 11 Pro. Re: Need to replace iPhone 8 looking for pros/cons of iPhone 11 vs iPhone X
Tom, I have had 2 iPhones with the swelling battery problem. This current phone is the last replacement for aone whose battery swelled up and popped the face off the phone. It is apparently a known issue with the iPhone batteries and apple will replace the battery and screen at no charge for that. I don't see the need to go to an iphone 11pro. I don't see that it has any real advantages over the 11. RE: Need to replace iPhone 8 looking for pros/cons of iPhone 11 vs iPhone X
I understand that the 11 Pro is the smallest in size of the 11 models. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Donald Raikes Sent: Thursday, November 21, 2019 12:01 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Need to replace iPhone 8 looking for pros/cons of iPhone 11 vs iPhone X Tom, I have had 2 iPhones with the swelling battery problem.
