Re: Playing with the camera app

2022-07-31 Thread Margaret Thomas

Yes, this is my first time with the camera app itself.

I tried the Seeing AI app for the first time the other day when I had a
bill that Open Book did not read well and I thought might be mainly
handwritten. I was able to get the total amount of the bill from it,
but only got 1 column out of 5 that a friend said were there after my
initial attempt. I'm going to work more with Seeing AI and it could
well just be my inexperience that didn't give me more of the bill.

Do you have any idea what the drag the shutter to the left for (word I
couldn't make out) might be about?

Thanks for telling me how to shut it up.

Margaret

To shut it up I usually just move focus off the view finder, but it'll still
let you know if there's a person in the camera view or not. To shut it up for
good, I just close the camera app in the App Switcher.

I initially still had no luck. I slid my finger around the screen and
only heard the thing about quick video ; Drag the shutter to the left
for something that sounds like burst; and 0 people. There is no focus or view
finder.
There was a continue button that I finally found and double tapped on and
then I could follow your instructions.

It was interesting and needs some work. It liked to call things musical
instrument and there isn't a musical instrument in the house. It got some
things right.

A friend came when I was going around downstairs with it and I finally got it
to say face.

How do you get it to shut up? I tried the magic tap and that didn't work. I
was hurrying to be able to pay attention to my friend and lost speech, but was
able to get it back.

Thanks,

Margaret

Also Margaret, if you can master the single finger flick left or right, you
will save yourself a bucket of headaches over the sliding your finger around
the screen method.
Flicking your finger jumps from item to item; while sliding your finger can mis
an item if it is small.

RE: Playing with the camera app

2022-07-29 Thread Richard Turner
Well, I am fortunate that in retirement, my wife and I are very comfortable and
I decided I could afford, finally, to spend the money for a pro model phone.

And, my wife was happy to take my SE 2020 and retire her SE first gen.

I had not messed with this for identifying things for a while.

So, I open the camera, double tapped on view finder.

I pointed the camera in front of myself, and it was talking about a person
standing in front of a fireplace in a room.

I mentioned that to my sighted wife and she said, yes, it's Tom.

There is a piccture of my late brother in a nice shadow box on our mantle.

It is appoximately 12 feet from me. The picture is a 4 by 6 photo.

The picture is indeed of him standing in front of their fireplace.

That is better than any of the apps I've tried.

There are no overhead lights on at the moment.

I scanned around the room and it did a good job of identifying chairs, tables,
TV, etc.

This is the 13 pro.

I'm impressed.

You open the camera app and then you move VoiceOver focus to the view finder,
which is at the top of the screen. As long as the view finder has VoiceOver's
focus, you'll hear descriptions of whatever's in the view finder, such as
object recognition, text and apparently currency identification as well.

RE: Playing with the camera app

2022-07-28 Thread Christopher Chaltain
You open the camera app and then you move VoiceOver focus to the view finder,
which is at the top of the screen. As long as the view finder has VoiceOver's
focus, you'll hear descriptions of whatever's in the view finder, such as
object recognition, text and apparently currency identification as well.

Chris, The camera can also identify U.S paper currency, just point the camera
at the paper bill. Have no idea if it can identify any other countr's paper
currency.

This is probably old news to everyone, but I just stumbled across
something, and I’m so excited, I want to share. This is how clueless I am, but
I was looking for a screen recording I’d just done, and not knowing where else
to look, I brought up the camera app. While I was exploring the camera app, I
heard it announcing things like no people, keyboard, … I realized it was
telling me what was on my desk! After playing around, I found out that if you
move focus to the top to the view finder, the camera app will read text to you
and identify objects. I ran downstairs to show my wife, and I heard it say “cat
on a flat surface with a laptop and a glass with a beverage”. I was pointing it
at my kitchen table which had our cat on it, waiting to be fed, my wife’s
laptop and her glass of sparkling water! It’s not going to replace the Seeing
AI app for me yet, but it seemed awfully fast and accurate!

Re: Playing with the camera app

2022-07-27 Thread CHELA Robles
Makes me wish I could have one of the newer models I have an iPhone 8 +256 GB
space gray. At least the InVision app works very well too. I found that seeing
AI was a bit buggy on my phone but I like envision AI as well.

RE: Playing with the camera app

2022-07-27 Thread Christopher Chaltain
True, but when I read that post and other articles on the web, it sounded like
the live text feature was just for OCR on text and the image recognition
feature only worked on photos. Obviously, I could have read things wrong, but I
was still surprised when placing VoiceOver focus in the view finder of my
camera app instantly recognized object and did OCR on any text it came across
all at the same time.

Re: Playing with the camera app

2022-07-27 Thread 'Sandy Tomkins' via VIPhone
Chris,
I just tried this on my iPhone 8 running the latest iOS, and all I was told
about was faces. What phone and which iOS are you running?
Thanks, looks very interesting, Sandy

RE: Playing with the camera app

2022-07-26 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I would have been more excited although it would have been in a negative way
had I discovered a cat on my kitchen table!

Subject: Playing with the camera app

This is probably old news to everyone, but I just stumbled across something,
and I’m so excited, I want to share. This is how clueless I am, but I was
looking for a screen recording I’d just done, and not knowing where else to
look, I brought up the camera app.
