For instance, I can now ask Siri if it is going to rain today, and follow that up with, "How about tomorrow?" Before iOS 11, when I asked about another day without mentioning rain, I would always get the response back that Siri couldn't find that information, or didn't know what I was talking about. Now though in iOS 11, I have been able to ask those questions and get the right answer back. Siri is not perfect, we all know that. However, it does seem to be gradually getting a little smarter. I recently got the Google Home mini. The Google assistant on my mini and Android device totally trashes Siri. Enough said from my end as the thread is moving off topic. It annoys me when I ask Siri about something and, instead of giving me an answer, he, merely, brings up a website which I have to sort out with my finger. I do remember that, in my early days as an iPhone user, he would ask me if I wantede him to read it to me, but I haven't had that request, now, for yonks and then more yonks! Re: Siri is still pretty stupid
For all of Siri's flaws and shortcomings, it/she has gotten a little better at context. Is Siri to the level of Alexa, not hardly, but every little bit counts. Re: Siri is still pretty stupid
Janet, before what you just said starts a firestorm, let me say this. Maybe you didn't read about all the hype Apple put into claiming in iOS 11 about a revamped, much smarter Siri. That is in their own words, not mine. If you really wanted to get picky, you could say that was false advertising. Everybody knows Siri is not human, and you're getting the wrong impression if we are misleading you to believe that she is! The point is, we have seen Siri work much better in the past. The term stupid is not necessarily referring to Siri as a stupid person, instead, the term stupid is referring to the fact that much of the added intelligence added to Siri, supposedly, is either not there at all, or is not functioning if it is. I would not go so far as to say the people that develop and program Siri are stupid, but they have become careless, rushing to deliver a product to beat or keep up with competition, but what good is it if it doesn't work as promised. They should have considered delaying a little, they need to put more work in to providing verification of received reported issues and higher priority into fixing them, especially when it comes to accessibility. Because we have IPhones and we should be able to discuss Siri short comings as well as the things we do enjoy about the IPhone. Most of the time I am ok with my phone but Siri is lacking in a few ways. I get so annoyed with it, then I end up using google or Alexa. Good call Marry, I still get a lot of somethings gone wrong Sadam. Or, Can you try that again? Google's natural language processing is way better. It will come back and say I found such and such a place on such and such a Street, does that look good? Or is that the one you wanted? Well, Siri, since I already gave you the street name of the store name, and I know there is only one such on that street, why don't you just give me the phone number I asked for in the first place? Google does this and so does Alexa. But good old Siri still can't get this right even in iOS 11. Come on Apple. This is pretty elementary stuff. What the hell did you do with all your work on Siri, anyway? Have other people found improvements to Siri in the real world? I know it can do all sorts of music trivia about which I care not. But what about real world situations? You know, like when you want a phone number and don't want to engage in meaningless back-and-forth with your so called Assistant?
