I’ ve noticed siri is not as smart as she used to be. At least for me since ios
11 she does not do as well.

I don’t want to join in on the ruckus or anything, but it surely is
disappointing when Seri lets you down. As it surely annoys and frustrates me.
But I suppose that’s my problem.

For all of Siri's flaws and shortcomings, it/she has gotten a little
better at context. For instance, I can now ask Siri if it is going to
rain today, and follow that up with, "How about tomorrow?" Before iOS
11, when I asked about another day without mentioning rain, I would
always get the response back that Siri couldn't find that information,
or didn't know what I was talking about. Now though in iOS 11, I have
been able to ask those questions and get the right answer back. Siri
is not perfect, we all know that. However, it does seem to be
gradually getting a little smarter. Is Siri to the level of Alexa, not
hardly, but every little bit counts.

2017-12-16 Thread Sadam Ahmed

I recently got the Google Home mini.

The Google assistant on my mini and Android device totally trashes Siri.

Enough said from my end as the thread is moving off topic.

All I'll say is Apple better step up their game, or they'll be overtaken
by Google.

2017-12-15 Thread Jewel
It annoys me when I ask Siri about something and, instead of giving me an
answer, he, merely, brings
up a website which I have to sort out with my finger.
I do remember that, in my early days as an iPhone user, he would ask me if I
wantede him to read it
to me, but I haven't had that request, now, for yonks and then more yonks!

Also, Last time I checked it wasn't a crime to express ones opinion as
Mary did so eloquently.

Google does this and so does Alexa. But good old Siri still can't

We have iPhones because of their outstanding accessibility, the access to a
huge eco system of songs, movies and all that. This does, however, not mean one
can't be critical of things which can be better. Apple was at the forefront
with SIRI/digital assistant technology back in 2011 when the iPhone 4S came
out. Since then they have of course improved it some, but others who started
later like the Amazon Echo and Google Assistant can answer many more questions
well and there is nothing wrong in holding Apple responsible for improving SIRI.
It's never black and white, I also sometimes swear at SIRI when she can't
answer a basic question which Google has no problems answering and
self-voicing. On the other hand I understand that the Google Assistant can't
even do simple things on the phone like turning on bluetooth although of course
this may have changed.
Wouldn't it be great if Apple and Google were competing in a friendly fashion
and Apple was able to use Google for searches and stuff like that? Of course
this won't happen, but it's a nice thought. Could you imagine where we would be
if all these companies would work together to make these technologies as good
as they can and no doubt some day will be?

Why don't you use proper punctuation?

Where not all Apple sheep thinking the sun shines out of Tim's behind.

Also, Last time I checked it wasn't a crime to express ones opinion as
Mary did so eloquently.

Good call Marry,

Janet, before what you just said starts a firestorm, let me say this. Maybe you
didn't read about all the hype Apple put into claiming in iOS 11 about a
revamped, much smarter Siri. That is in their own words, not mine. If you
really wanted to get picky, you could say that was false advertising. Everybody
knows Siri is not human, and you're getting the wrong impression if we are
misleading you to believe that she is! The point is, we have seen Siri work
much better in the past. The term stupid is not necessarily referring to Siri
as a stupid person, instead, the term stupid is referring to the fact that much
of the added intelligence added to Siri, supposedly, is either not there at
all, or is not functioning if it is.
I would not go so far as to say the people that develop and program Siri are
stupid, but they have become careless, rushing to deliver a product to beat or
keep up with competition, but what good is it if it doesn't work as promised.
They should have considered delaying a little, they need to put more work in to
providing verification of received reported issues and higher priority into
fixing them, especially when it comes to accessibility.

Because we have IPhones and we should be able to discuss Siri short

the time I am ok with my phone but Siri is lacking in a few ways. I
get so annoyed with it, then I end up using google or Alexa.

Siri still can't get this right even in iOS 11. Come on Apple. This is
pretty elementary stuff. What the hell did you do with all your work on
Siri, anyway? Have other people found improvements to Siri in the real
world? I know it can do all sorts of music trivia about which I care not.
But what about real world situations? You know, like when you want a phone
number and don't want to engage in meaningless back-and-forth with your so
called Assistant?

Re: Siri is still pretty stupid

2017-09-23 Thread John Panarese
I've actually not noticed anything different in iOS 11 than iOS 10 with
SIRI. Sometimes, she works brilliantly, and if you take the time to work with
her and learn how to ask things, she does a fantastic job. In other instances,
you get the imp version of SIRI who seems to decide that making you work for
everything is a lot of fun. In cases like that, I have learned to either
restart the phone or just find another way to get at what I want. I just used
SIRI quite successfully to search for restaurant information and get directions
for later today.
