Shawn Paul,

Thanks and just for the record if anyone else was looking for the app and could
not find it I had trouble for some reason. Suddenly I could find it even
without using the link, so I have no idea what the heck was going on.

I tried Weather Alert USA but for me, Imap Weather Radio is the best. With
the former, I found there is just too much stuff to plow through to find the
actual alert. It really depends on your needs and wants. I find that Imap
Weather gets my alerts in a timely manner, but so did Weather Alert USA.

Anything delivered over the network may be subject to a delay. I used
Imap radio in the past and it also was subject to delays as well. In
fact I happen to have the radio on and received over-the-air

2012-07-06 Thread Jesus Garcia
The first part of that program began at the beginning of this month. However
it will be limited for the time to several of the bigger metro areas.

That is why I am glad I got it when it was free and also one of the reasons
I stopped using it. Not to mention it seemed to be chewing up the battery
sitting out in the background. ALthough maybe it has gotten better.
There will be a time when cell carriers will be sending you free text
messages about weather alerts. Of course this is assuming the FCC and others
come together. :) And for our non-U.S. members the FCC is the Federal
Communications COmmission which is responsible for all things telecom.

far I've settled on Weather Alert USA.

2012-07-06 Thread Scott Howell
Sean Paul,

I do not blame you and completely agree. If some have had success with Imap
Weather Radio that is great, but I could not trust it and found the alerts not
timely enough. I am fascinated with the idea of text alerts if those will be
any more timely than what other apps may provide. I wil have to look at Weather
ALert USA since this is not an app I'm familiar with and would like to read
info on. I still relie on local radio to get the most up-to-date forecast
information during a weather event.
THanks for sharing the name of this other app.

I can't check my settings since I removed the app. :) THings may have
improved and in all fairness I have not used the app in nearly a eight months
 or more.
I do not want to give anyone the impression the app is junk because your
experiences may be different then mine.

There will be a time when cell carriers will be sending you free text
messages about weather alerts. Of course this is assuming the FCC and
others come together. :) And for our non-U.S. members the FCC is the
Federal Communications COmmission which is responsible for all things
 telecom.

Anything delivered over the network may be subject to a delay. I used Imap
radio in the past and it also was subject to delays as well. In fact I
happen to have the radio on and received over-the-air notifications more
quickly than from Imap radio. This is not a negative to the value the app
has, but simply pointing out that text or otherwise may be subject to
 delays as well.

Hi,
I don't use Verizon so I don't know, however, I do know of a service that does
this. and the basic membership is free and it gives the functionality you are
looking for. It can be found at
http://www.weatherusa.net/
I have been using this for over a year and it has worked great without any
problems.

Jeffrey

I'd use something like iMap weather radio. Don't rely on texts. They could be
