Re: new keyboard behaviour

2012-09-20 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
Hi. I also like this new keyboard behavior. I'm glad that it pretty much does
the same thing as Fleksy where you just tap on a letter and it types it. So
with that being said, I don't see the point of having the app if the keyboard
does what we've been wanting it to do all this time.
My update was pretty successful, got an error message about it failing to
install the update for some reason though. At least it worked the second time.
I'm just having trouble with the App store now. How do you change pages if
swiping left or right doesn't work?

Hi,

I'm confused. The IOS keyboard with Voiceover has had that overall ability
since IOS 4. Its just that now, you touch type includes shift, delete, more
numbers, etc. Fleksy is more about its capability to predict text.

Hi Sean,

You mean a double tap of the space bar, right? I just tried this and
tapping

the space bar twice quickly still inserts a period as always and starts a
new sentence with the first letter capitalized. Make sure you have this
feature turned on in Settings and Keyboard.

Ironically, I feel differently: I've found that my typing speed is now
significantly faster because it used to be very slow to enter
punctuation, numbers, and to hastily delete a mistyped character. I
therefore am a fan of the changes.

I will say, though, that there are a couple of inconsistencies: I
would have expected the behaviour to have also changed for the enter

retains the classic behaviour. You can't touch and hold it to activate
it.

Re: new keyboard behaviour

2012-09-20 Thread Wayne Merritt
Hi. I also really like the new keyboard in iOS 6. It especially makes
writing passwords that have a mixture of letters and numbers lots
easier, grin. It took a couple of tries for me to initially adjust my
thinking, but I think my typing is a little faster with the built-in
iOS keyboard than before the update.

Good stuff,
Wayne

RE: new keyboard behaviour

2012-09-19 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Neil,

I just discovered the same thing regarding the delete key. I wanted to
delete the entire label in the edit field of the custom label and I touched
the delete key which deleted a letter, but holding on it did not delete the
rest rapidly as it used to do. However, as I was writing this to
commiserate, the solution came to me and I just tried it and it works fine.
It's really simple because it's the same gesture than before. That means
before you had to either double tap or split tap the delete key to delete
and if you did that and held it would continue to delete quickly. Now find
the delete key, once you lift up a letter is deleted. Now focus is on the
delete key and you can simply double tap and hold and it will delete very
fast as long as you keep holding your finger on the screen. This came to me
because I was wondering how I can turn on caps lock since now a single touch
of the Shift key activates it where before a double tap did and a triple tap
turned on Caps Lock. So I touched the shift key and then did a triple tap
and that still turns on caps lock except that now to turn it off you only
have to touch it once. I hope I am making sense here, but this I think is
actually a good improvement.

Regards,
Sieghard

Re: new keyboard behaviour

2012-09-19 Thread James Mannion
That definitely makes sense. Thanks for sharing your findings. I
thought I liked the behavior better all accept for the delete key. You
have described the way to use this new functionality. Thanks.

This came to me
because I was wondering how I can turn on caps lock since now a single
 touch
of the Shift key activates it where before a double tap did and a triple
 tap
turned on Caps Lock. So I touched the shift key and then did a triple tap
and that still turns on caps lock except that now to turn it off you only
have to touch it once. I hope I am making sense here, but this I think is
 actually a good improvement.

 Sieghard

Sieghard you are a genius!
would anyone know of a manual which would describe all of these features? It
would be nice if there was one!
Thank you!

valuable insight just sealed the deal. Thanks all for the tips.
