RE: Setting up iPhone 11 from iPhone 6S Plus with Quick Setup

Yes, I remember having to use my Apple Pass Word to get the Cloud, then my
phone one also. It just did not take us long though. The neat thing is since it
brought everything over from my SE, it started talking right off.

I just did this with 10 ipad 5th gen devices,

So all were running IOS 13.x or should I say iPad OS

I used the first device I setup as the primary and it took a few minutes to
set up the others one by one,

I had to sign in to or with my apple ID but otherwise everything else was
pretty much done

I did have to say yes / no to things like hey siri,

Pin code and touch ID,

As for data, sorry I can’t really say as the device had been blown away and
reset up.

Either way I’d stop your mothers and put the 6 on charge and start the process
again

Hope that helps.

Hi Sieghard,

My wife had a 6 plus and I purchase her an 11. It only took a couple minutes to
do the setup like you had your mom do. but as we were using the iPhone it still
was downloading things in the background. I don’t know how long this took but I
don’t think it was five hours but then my wife does not have as many pictures
as your mom had.

Subject: Setting up iPhone 11 from iPhone 6S Plus with Quick Setup

So, here is the scenario:

My mother has an iPhone 6S Plus and she recently bought an iPhone 11.

Today I spoke with her on the phone to help her set it up.

I recently bought an iPad Air for my business and used my iPhone 8 and the
quick setup option, after I scanned the barcode on the iPad with my phone it
took a very short time for the setup to complete, I had to enter the passcode I
used on my iPhone and after that the iPad configured itself, it automatically
connected to my WiFi and so on.

When it was done it asked if I wanted to restore a backup or set up as a new
device and I chose to set up the iPad as a new device.

I did not notice that any apps got transferred via the quick setup, when I just
looked all my photos from my iPhone are also on the iPad, but I am not sure if
this happened via the quick setup or whether they simply downloaded because I
have iCloud Photo Library and Photostream turned on.

Anyways, here my question: if others have used this quick connect or quick
setup feature where you bring your new phone close to your old one and then
scan the code, how long did it take?

On my Mom’s new iPhone 11 it said after she scanned the code that it was
setting up and this could take several minutes, but it’s been saying this now
for the last 5 or so hours.

She says there still is a little wheel that is spinning as if it’s doing stuff,
but it just goes on and on.

I even called Apple Accessibility, but the guy I spoke with couldn’t really
give me an answer. I Know you have to have Bluetooth on for this to work, but
what I don’t know is what actually gets transferred and if, for example, all
photos which potentially could be several Gigabytes of data, get transferred
via Bluetooth to Bluetooth then this could of course take a long time. But why
would Apple then say “this can take several minutes”, they should “this can
take 8 hours”.

Regards,

Sieghard

RE: Setting up iPhone 11 from iPhone 6S Plus with Quick Setup

2020-01-22 Thread Carolyn
Goodness, it only took a few minutes for my SE to be loaded onto my 11. I took
it to Wal-Mart. Jim might have been able to have done it, and I could have
stayed with Consumer Cellular and not moved to AT,would have paid more for
the phone, less for the line. I also wanted Seeing A I downloaded, and we
didn't know enough to try that ourselves. The guy at Wal-Mart had no problem
with any of it, and my Home Page even lined up like I had it with Contacts,
Weather, Reminders down the top left. Something definitely is not right - five
hours, that's absurd!

The Wal-Mart guy kept VoiceOver on most of the time, got me to enter my Apple
Pass Code. It was a good experience.

I'm so sorry for your mother's problem. It sounds like she needs a store. I
realize that can be a problem. There is no Consumer Cellular store in our town.
I really hated to leave them, but realized that we really needed to get a guy
at the store to do it.

RE: Setting up iPhone 11 from iPhone 6S Plus with Quick Setup

2020-01-22 Thread Cristóbal Muñoz
It sounds like your mom’s process got stuck at this point.

Having done this with my XR in 2018 and my wife’s Pro Max last year, indeed, it
took a few minutes. Don’t recall how long exactly, but certainly not hours.

You’re probably best off looking into killing the process and starting over.

With my in-laws being on the other side of the world and not the most
technoligy inclined, we’ve eexperienced similar long distance trouble shooting
issues. We’ve been trying to convince my mother-in-law to finally upgrade her
iPad Air secodn generation that we got her years ago. It’s starting to get
buggy. She’s been reluctant to do so due to concerns of losing photos and apps
etc.

The worst thing that can happen is that you just initiate the set up process
again since you’ll still have the original device.

When I did this, it didn’t take more than a half hour.

But her phone is much older than mine was and I wonder if the slower processor
impacts this. Still, I wouldn’t think it should take hours like this.

RE: Re-setting an iPhone

2020-01-14 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
My iPhone 8 does this occasionally and usually doing a restart of the phone
fixes this.
If you want to reset then do so in Settings > General > Reset, restore from
your iCloud backup and see if that works, if the same issue happens again you
may have to set up as a new device, configure any Mail accounts, download all
the apps manually and put back any content. There are times when restoring from
a backup may also restore any unwanted behavior.

Hi all,
my wife’s 7+ is not behaving correctly. We have the phone set to lock after 3
minutes. However often it will not lock at all. If my wife doesn’t notice it is
not locked it will run down the battery.
I would like to reset the phone and do a restore. Should I restore from iCloud
or an iTunes backup from my Mac?
Thanks as always for any advice.
Max.

Yes go to settings, general, restrictions and it's in there. The default

Is there such a setting?
