I read a lot with read 2 go and the voice over voice. I do not see the
problem, if you turn the display by page option off.

Personally, I like Read 2 Go stopping ant the end of a chapter.
Sometimes I'll fall asleep while reading.

RE: Read2Go on an iPhone 5

2013-05-17 Thread Sarah Cranston
I agree, I'm not a fan of the Acapella voices either. All the apps I know of
that use them have that same restriction. So you can end up with several copies
of Heather or Ryan on your device, simply because each app has to have its own
copy. Yes, it's wasteful, but it's the standard way of offering an app with a
built-in TTS engine. I'm one of those weird people who prefers to read using HQ
Samantha. However, an even better reason for not using Read2Go's voices is that
the books cannot be read in Braille. Now that I have a Focus 14, I can read
books in Braille wherever I go. This is extremely liberating.

You don't have to read page by page if you use VO to read instead of Acapella.
Go into settings, then into Visual. Find the setting called Display by Page.
Once you turn it off, the book will be laid out in sections. When I was just
playing with it to make sure my directions were accurate, I switched to page
mode, then back to section mode. Now I can quickly jump from section to section
without the app crashing, at least for now. Strange!

Being that I already have Read To Go, and don't mind using its Heather

That’s really odd. At first, I thought it was the book I was reading,
which is long and not terribly well marked up. However, my mother just read the
same book on her 4S and the app never crashed once. I’m also wondering if it
has to do with the large number of books I’ve downloaded, though that doesn’t
make much sense. BTW, I forgot to mention I’m reading using HQ Samantha instead
of the Acapella voices.

Not that this is truly on topic, but for my money, Voice Dream beats Read to Go
9 ways to Sunday. I can read continuously, I can use a quality voice, or, I can
use Samantha. Perhapse navigation isn't as good as it is in Read to Go, but I'm
not using Voice Dream for text books.

RE: Read2Go on an iPhone 5

2013-05-16 Thread Sarah Cranston
True enough. So do Nook and Kindle. One very bizarre quirk of Read2Go is,
though it does stop at the end of a section, it repeats "Bookshelf. Search.
Settings. Help." Over and over and over. I suppose that could be a cure for
insomnia, it's boring enough, but it's irritating enough to wake me up if I
start thinking about it.

RE: Read2Go on an iPhone 5

2013-05-16 Thread Sarah Cranston
That's really odd. At first, I thought it was the book I was reading, which is
long and not terribly well marked up. However, my mother just read the same
book on her 4S and the app never crashed once. I'm also wondering if it has to
do with the large number of books I've downloaded, though that doesn't make
much sense. BTW, I forgot to mention I'm reading using HQ Samantha instead of
the Acapella voices.

Yes, it's still happening. I was hopeful that the update would fix the problem,

Hi Sarah,
This happens to me and I have an iPhone 4S. I think it has something to do with
the download of the book, although this is only a guess.

Read2Go on an iPhone 5

2013-05-16 Thread Sarah Cranston
Hi,

I'm having an issue with Read2Go. Before I take the sledge hammer approach and
uninstall and reinstall, I thought I'd ask if anyone else has been experiencing
this. I download a book into Read2Go and start reading. A few sections in, when
I tap the Next Section button, the app crashes. I open the app again, open the
book, and try tapping Next Section again. It crashes every time. The only way I
can progress through a book is to go to the table of contents and select the
next section. Then I may be able to proceed by tapping Next Section once or
twice, but eventually the app will always crash. I have an iPhone 5. My mother,
who is reading the same book I am, has an iPhone 4S and isn't experiencing this
issue at all. The reason I haven't already broken out the sledge hammer is that
I have around one hundred books downloaded into the app and I'd like to avoid
downloading them again if at all possible. If this is one of those quirks of
the 5, I'll live with it, as it's not quite a show-stopper, though it does get
annoying. Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions.

Sarah
