Re: Reading on the iPhone with BARD and other apps

2015-02-18 Thread Christina C.
I have the same problem with the bard app. Sometimes the two finger double tap
works and sometimes it does not. Same goes for buttons on headphones that are
wired or wireless. It’s hit and miss. Re installing the app did not fix the
problem for me, nor does restarting my phone.

Concerning the issue that you are having with BARD, have you tried deleting it
from your phone and redownloading? That might fix the problem.

Re: Reading on the iPhone with BARD and other apps

2015-02-18 Thread Alex Hall
I never had much luck with the Bard app being controlled in the background. I
haven't used it for quite a while, though. In iOS8, background apps that play
media sometimes get pushed out and thus remotes won't control their media
anymore. This might be what's happening. At least, it happens to Voice Dream
Reader once every day or two, and it happened once or twice to Downcast.
Opening the app and starting playback manually is enough to set things right
again, and remotes should work until the next time the app is closed by iOS.

RE: Reading on the iPhone with BARD and other apps

2015-02-18 Thread Alan Lemly
Nicki,

I'm a big fan of using the Apple earpods for listening to BARD Mobile books
and other books in apps such as Voice Dream Reader and Audible. I realize
wired earphones are not everyone's cup of tea but I find the remote button
on the earpods invaluable when listening. A single press of it will stop and
start playback if a text notification comes in and you want to redirect your
focus. Also, pressing the remote button quickly 3 times will rewind a BARD
Mobile book if you want to review something. Holding down the remote button
after that third quick press will rewind for successively longer intervals.
And I find the sound quality of the Apple earpods to be excellent.

If you use voice over activate the stop button by putting a finger on it.
After that do a one finger double tap anywhere on the screen to stop and
start the playback.

Re: Reading on the iPhone with BARD and other apps

2015-02-18 Thread Wayne Merritt
Unfortunately, the only way to fix the playback issue is for NLS to
put an update out for the BARD Mobile app. However reporting the
issues to NLS and/or your regional library always helps. As for
notifications, I will listen to the notification while the book is
playing. Since I use the Alex voice there is enough of a difference
for me to understand the notification/message. Once Alex is done, I
will stop the BARD book and then rewind 20 seconds to go back and hear
what I missed, or more for longer notifications.

Good luck,
Wayne

Re: Reading on the iPhone with BARD and other apps

2015-02-18 Thread Richard Turner

Do you have play in background on in the settings?
Also, the BARD app pobably needs an update to insure the two finger double tap
or using the button on earphones to work consistently.
The book should pause during notifications, if it doesn't, report that to BARD.
I keep notifications turned off so I can't speak much to that.
