Re: Serious text editing in Ios

2016-07-12 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi,

In Voice Dream Writer, you can view your text as an outline, making it easy to
move to a particular heading. You can also move a heading, with all the text
under it, to a different place in the document by moving it above or below
other headings. Word can do this on the computer, but I don't know if that
feature is available in the iOS version.

Best,
Anna

 You can use text Markup.
So, if you want to set a heading level one, enter a number sign before the
text. A heading level 2, put 2 number signs, all the way up to heading

You can do an asterisk to bold text, and a hyphen to do a bulleted list.
It has a great spell checker, etc.

Besides the typographical characteristics of headings, marking something
as a heading also let's you use it in things like building table of
contents or outlines. Screen readers can also allow you to jump through
text by jumping from heading to heading. Heading levels allow you to
nest headings, such as in an outline or table of contents.

Heading level 1 uses larger font than heading level 2, which is larger than
heading level 3.
It may also use a different background color when you are talking about heading
levels in an html file. But, in word processing, it usually refers to the font
size and I believe it also bolds the text.
It is a simple way to have headings stand out in a document.
In Microsoft Word heading levels can be set on the styles ribbon.

Hi,

I agree with Richard's recommendation. Also, Mystic Access has done a nice
Voice Dream Writer tutorial, so if you like tutorials, it's worth checking out.

Re: Serious text editing in Ios

2016-07-11 Thread Richard Turner

I can't recommend any app other than Voice Dream Writer.
It takes time to really learn how to get the most out of it, but it is worth
taking the time.
You can use text Markup.
So, if you want to set a heading level one, enter a number sign before the
text. A heading level 2, put 2 number signs, all the way up to heading level 6.
You can do an asterisk to bold text, and a hyphen to do a bulleted list.
It has a great spell checker, etc.
Plan to spend time with the user guide.
The app is $9.99.
You can export as plain text, RTF, and he is experimenting with a word docx
format that usually works for me.
If you are interested, I can send you the help file. It may also be on the
VoiceDream web site.

Re: Serious text editing in Ios

2016-07-11 Thread Kimber Gardner
I like PlainText because it's simple and easy to use. I don't think it
has a spellchecker beyond the one on the device. There'ds also Word
for iOS and Pages. Both are quite usable but, at least for my
purposes, a bit too fancy for the type of writing I do on the phone.

I hope that helps some.

Hi guys,
What are my options for a text editor or spell checker that I can use on my

If I use an external keyboard there isn't any reason why people would need to

text editing on ios with braille only

2014-04-29 Thread Anouk Radix
Hi everyone,
An acquaintance of mine has a client who is deaf-blind and is thinking about
the iphone as a communication tool for this person.
She asked if this would be a viable solution. I know that text editing on ios
with just braille using pages is not such a fun experience.
I also know that last year an app was introduced and i think even got an
applevis podcast that COULD do this, gave you the opportunity to use cursor
routing and navigate through text easily.
I cant for the life of me remember the apps name though.
Can anyone help me with htis,
Thanks in advance,

2014-04-29 Thread Cheryl Homiak
Hmm, I don't remember the name of the app and I'm not deaf-blind, but I do
often turn off speech and use pages. I've found a lot of it involves watching
where your cursor is and remembering the sequence for changing pages and using
cursor routing when needed. I am not going to claim it's just plain easy but
the not a fun experience part did go away for me after a while. I also do use
plaintext (though not as much as I used to), notes, and AFB's aess-note.
And there may be more I am not thinking of right now.

I think you are talking about AccessNote from AFB.
Depending on the type of braille device they are using, there may be other apps

Re: text editing on ios with braille only

2014-04-29 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi,

I like Nebulous. You can read continuously whether you're in read or edit mode,
you can easily switch between two documents, and if you use the Search command,
the found text appears on your braille display. You have to be sure the SEarch
option is on the toolbar so it's easy to access, but if you do that, this app
is the easiest I've found for working with long text documents. No app I've
found has some of the basic features of most notetakers, however, such as the
ability to move to the next and previous paragraph.

Best,
Anna

it would be a lot easier to use then pages. But things might have changed in a

the SEarch option is on the toolbar so it's easy to access, but if you do

If they have a HIMS device, they could try the HIMS Chat app, but I'm not sure
that has been updated.
If they have a humanware Apex, there is a Deaf-blind communicator app, but I
think it costs close to $100.
Are they wanting to be able to converse with a hearing person through the app?
That is what HIMS chat and the communicator apps are suppose to make easier.
Otherwise, using something like AccessNote would work especially if they also
had a bluetooth keyboard connected, then the other person could type in the
same document.

 Hello,

As a follow-up to the recent thread on RTF editors that synchronize with

formatting such as bold, underline, tab positions, etc.?

Also, what is the text selection process with a bluetooth keyboard? I
 have
an Apple keyboard, and I'd like to be able to select blocks of text. Am I
correct that this works with a combination of arrow keys and the Command
 key?

 Thanks for any information.

Hi, I didn't think you could have bold, italic, ETC when using plain
text. After all, isn't it plain? maybe you are thinking rich text which
would have that. Some apps which claim to be plain text apps support
this, but that's not plain text to me. I think the only thing you can
change when using true plain text is the font size and type, but that
only affects how the letters look and the size of them, not other font
things like bold, italic, ETC.

Hi Rob,

I guess it is kind of contradicting to want plain text and then request
bold, etc. LOL I'm about to start taking an hour and a half commute each way
to work, and I'd like to find a productive means of spending my three hours
on the road. Editing documents is one way, and while I understand there is
currently no means of editing Doc or DOCX files, I'd like to see about the
next best alternative. Esther's message earlier about an RTF editor was
promising, but I'd prefer not have to get an iPad just to accomplish some
productive document editing. At minimum, I'd like an efficient means of
manipulating blocks of text from within the same file or between two files.

Thanks all for any additional thoughts.

Text Editing on iOS

2012-10-28 Thread Joe
Hello,

As a follow-up to the recent thread on RTF editors that synchronize with
Dropbox, do any of the plain text apps allow for at least some minimal
formatting such as bold, underline, tab positions, etc.?

Also, what is the text selection process with a bluetooth keyboard? I have
an Apple keyboard, and I'd like to be able to select blocks of text. Am I
correct that this works with a combination of arrow keys and the Command
key?

Thanks for any information.

Joe

You want a minimal word processor; those markup tokens only complicate and
to me, corrupt the notion of Plain Text.

RE: Text Editing on iOS

2012-10-28 Thread Joe

Joe

How about using notes? You can do bold italic there and selecting and moving
text works fine with bt keyboard.
Best,
