RE: To Those Who Have Used both Uber and Lyft, A Question

2019-01-02 Thread Robert Wright
I tried lyft once but quit after they lied about a discount. I was suppose to
get a discount but never saw it activated. I was charged almost $8 for a ride
less than 2 miles.

Catching up on holiday emails so am a little late on this topic. The
one thing I'll say which has not been mentioned yet is it seems that
in Austin, Texas, where we have both, Uber Pool used to be a set price
no matter the distance. However, I have found that Uber Pool, their
carpool service, has been on a sliding scale, sometimes differing in
price from when I book a trip. Lyft, on the other hand, their Share
service, the price I see is the price I pay. A long time ago, Uber
Pool was like that but for whatever reason, things have changed in
that regard. Delivery fees for Uber Eats in my area have also gotten
to be set amounts which can range from $2.49 to $6.99, depending on
distance and wait time. So it seems that Uber is more expensive for me
and Lyft is winning out more often than not. I have both on my phone
but tend to use Lyft.

2019-01-02 Thread Andy Baracco
I find the lyft app easier to use, but they do update and periodically
change the format. For example, with Uber you set your pick up point first,
while with lyft, you set up your destination first. This can be confusing
if you use both.

We have both in Saint Louis. In many cases, if I need to go to and from a
destination, I will take one service one way and the other service on the
return trip, just because I want to support both of them. I have found that
Lyft provides discounts more often than Uber does, but Uber is sometimes
slightly faster I am happy with the service that both of them provide, far
better than any cab company. In many cases, drivers drive for both services.

I use both. While I tend to use Lyft more, it often comes down to which app is
easier to use at the time. Updates change things, as we all know, and
sometimes one app will feel more clunky. The other night I was at a restaurant
and Lyft could not seem to figure out where I was to populate my pickup
location. When I entered the restaurant address, I got a warning that Lyft
thought the address was significantly different from where Lyft thought I was.
So, I switch to Uber and it figured out immediate where I was. Even using
Uber though, the latest update makes it not obvious how to contact the driver.
A sighted friend showed me where on the screen to tap to text my driver.

It's not typically worth my time anymore to price shop the two apps before a
short ride, but the app experience will make a difference.

I will put a plug in that Uber support was really good about follow-up when I
left my guide dog harness handle in a car and couldn't get the driver to
respond. I still never got the handle back as the driver said she could not
find it, but Uber supportseemed sincere in my concern and getting the driver to
respond to them.

I use both services and find the apps very similar and both easy to use.
Most of the drivers work for both companies and I personally have found most to
be very friendly and very helpful.
On the other hand, I find Lyft more difficult to work with in the case of any
dispute and I object to the way they handle any credits you may have on your
account.
There is an organization here which helps fund rides for the elderly and/or
disabled. You purchase vouchers and they buy credits for you on the Lyft
account for more than the vouchers coast. the problem arises when you have more
than one credit and neither of them will fully cover the cost of a ride. They
refuse to use more than one credit on a ride, so any overage will be charged to
you on your method of payment and they will not take any driver tips from the
credits.
Uber, on the other hand combines all credits into one and uses it for any and
all charges.
So far as the costs of the fares, sometimes Uber is less, sometimes Lyft is
less so it is up to you to check but the prices do not seem to vary all that
much for me here in Reno.

Mark,

I've had excellent success with both Uber and Lyft. I can't say I've had
accessibility problems with either app. I personally prefer Lyft which stems
more from Uber's past CEO and some of the things done while he was at the
helm not from any personal negative experience with the service. I will say
that I seem to receive more discount offers from Lyft.

RE: To Those Who Have Used both Uber and Lyft, A Question

2018-12-23 Thread R Van Lant

Most of the drivers work for both companies and I personally have found most
to be very friendly and very helpful.
On the other hand, I find Lyft more difficult to work with in the case of
any dispute and I object to the way they handle any credits you may have on
your account.
There is an organization here which helps fund rides for the elderly and/or
disabled. You purchase vouchers and they buy credits for you on the Lyft
account for more than the vouchers coast. the problem arises when you have
more than one credit and neither of them will fully cover the cost of a
ride. They refuse to use more than one credit on a ride, so any overage will
be charged to you on your method of payment and they will not take any
driver tips from the credits.
Uber, on the other hand combines all credits into one and uses it for any
and all charges.
So far as the costs of the fares, sometimes Uber is less, sometimes Lyft is
less so it is up to you to check but the prices do not seem to vary all that
much for me here in Reno.

The two apps feel almost identical to me. I will look at them both, to see
which one has the cheapest rate before booking a ride. Having said this, I
tend to prefer Lyft slightly more because they have a toll-free number you
can call if your driver decides to discriminate against you.

RE: To Those Who Have Used both Uber and Lyft, A Question

2018-12-22 Thread Cristóbal Muñoz
Indeed, if those types of things matter, Lyft's generally considered to be the
more ethical of the two services. Around here (Southern California), Uber on
average seems to be cheaper, but for the most part, I take Lyft when I need a
ride. Often though, drivers work for both companies. So it's really a
tomato/tommato type of deal.

Mark,

I've had excellent success with both Uber and Lyft. I can't say I've had
accessibility problems with either app. I personally prefer Lyft which stems
more from Uber's past CEO and some of the things done while he was at the helm
not from any personal negative experience with the service. I will say that I
seem to receive more discount offers from Lyft.

RE: To Those Who Have Used both Uber and Lyft, A Question

2018-12-22 Thread joedinero68
I live out on Long Island about 50 miles outside of New York city and have both
available to me. Having said that while out on the island I tend to use Lyft 90
percent of the time as I find most quotes are less pricing wise. I have had a
couple of issues with how a driver chose to drive a route or issues with being
picked up and Lyft always handled them well and I was totally satisfied. Having
said that and I am going to make a disclaimer here that I know the local
neighborhood around where I work so I have no issue traveling to another point
to be picked up. So to that point I work a couple of days a week in our
Brooklyn office in New York City and within the 5 boroughs of NYC you have
access to share a ride with another passenger to save money, however, Uber has
an even more discounted share ride program called Uber Pool where you meet the
driver sometime a block or two away and you save even more money . For example
a typical normal Lyft / Uber ride to the Long Island Rail Road station is about
$9.00 without sharing a ride. If you do Lyfts share ride it is like $5.00 and
if you do the Uber Pool where you may walk a block or two away it is typically
like $3.50 so in that instance and in the context of me knowing the
neighborhood I would go with Uber.

Re: To Those Who Have Used both Uber and Lyft, A Question

2018-12-22 Thread Marie N.
I use both services and find the apps very similar and both easy to use.

Marie

Re: To Those Who Have Used both Uber and Lyft, A Question

2018-12-22 Thread Michael Malver
The two apps feel almost identical to me. I will look at them both, to see
which one has the cheapest rate before booking a ride. Having said this, I tend
to prefer Lyft slightly more because they have a toll-free number you can call
if your driver decides to discriminate against you.
