It may be better to try to find new or used Victor Reader Stream Model 2 units. The model 3 I purchased has been a disappointment. The unit, even after recent software updates, does not keep the place in the book where I stopped reading. Bookmarks are often lost. The version 3 will not yet read Audible books, although this is promised for a future update. The ability to move through lists of books in groups of ten is no longer possible. Finding the time requires a long press of the time key, instead of the short press previously used. (The developers considers this last item as a feature; I don’t.) When you purchase Sd cards larger then 32 gigs, they are already formatted as x-fat, so the third gen stream can read them automatically. There are devices which can only support cards up to a certain size. Maybe that is the case with the VictorReader and you bought a card which is too large. When you say you formatted the card, did you let the victor reader format it, or your computer. If you let the victor reader format it, then put these books into the $vrdtb folder and it won't work, then I don't know. I looked through the error messages in the victor reader user guide, but none of the error 3's in there seemed to apply. Let us know what it is if you figure it out. I have really used and enjoyed two each of the first and second versions of the Victor Reader Stream, the last of which is still working well after several years. When I changed hearing aids I had to get an newer version that supports Bluetooth . I am now on my fourth Victor Reader Trek in just over a year. I don’t know about other’s experience but all of mine have been disasters. Humanware has implied that I am the only one with problems but they have been replacing them under warranty. In addition to forgetting settings and occasionally garbling the audio they frequently crash, sometime multiple times a day. I get six to seven hours on a charge, much less than they advertise. If you are authorised already, you're fine, but authorisation for new users is broken. This issue extends to lack of support for the third generation of the Stream, which HumanWare expects to release initially to the US market sometime in February. Since this episode was published only a few hours ago, I've received a large number of inquiries asking if I would help set up some sort of open letter or petition to Audible about this issue. While I am not a Stream user myself, I am happy to help, because I strongly support blind people being able to access information in the way that works for them. There is no doubt that the loss of Audible support for the Stream will deprive a good number of people of their preferred means of reading Audible books, and some will unsubscribe from Audible altogether. I have now set up an open letter to Audible which you can sign if you wish. I've taken care to use a site that is accessible and does not needlessly collect information from you. I have had representatives from Audible on Mosen at Large in the Past. I will use those contacts to ensure the letter gets to the right place, and will also invite Audible on the podcast for comment. Hi listers, Once you have a bunch of songs converted, all songs of course show up twice in the itunes library. One AAC, and one mp3 version. What is the quickest way to get rid of all AAC files, or all mp3 files, in one go? Now, I need to find each song, hit command i for info, check if it's the right file I want to delete, i.e. mp3 or AAC, close the info window and then delete that one song from my itunes library. To convert a song to mp3, follow these steps: 1) Open iTunes. 2) Press ctrl + comma to enter the preferences dialog. 3) Press shift + tab until focus lands on import settings. 4) Press enter. 5) Press tab until focus lands on the import using combo box. 6) Press down arrow until focus lands on mp3 encoder. 7) Press enter to select this item and exit out of the import settings dialog. 8) Press tab until focus is placed on the OK button and then press enter to save and exit out of the settings dialog. 9) Select a song that you would like to convert to mp3. 10) Press the applications key to bring up the context menu. 11) Press either down or up arrow until focus lands on the menu item entitled convert to mp3 12) Press enter on this menu item to convert one song to mp3. Know that the original song will still be in your library and it will be necessary to delete it. Please let me know if the above steps make sense to you or if you have any additional questions. Hi, you need to first select this in iTunes preferences. Under the general tab, press the import settings button. Then select mp3, and your bit rate. Hi, I'm surprised this device doesn't play AAC files. Since iPods are the number 1 music player in the world, its a pretty popular format. Probably only 2nd to mp3 actually. Thanks Thom Have tried that already, like last week when I was trying to sort this issue. The copy function works well, just as you suggested, but it doesn't change the format to an mp3.
