VoiceOver and passcode for iPhone
Not sure if anybody else is experiencing this issue, but once in the pass code for the iPhone and having the passcode turned on, VoiceOver will immediately take focus to the emergency call button instead of allowing the user to enter their pass code. I have read and other groups related to accessibility that this is an issue with iOS 5 as well as voiceover I'm hoping that the accessibility team Apple will have this fixed when iOS six comes out. --
Re: VoiceOver and passcode for iPhone
Hello, This is a known problem. Currently, there are two solutions. 1) Activate the cancel button. When VO says screen locked, you are actually in the password entry field. Enter your password. 2) When you activate the slide to unlock, keep your fingers away from the display until you hear VO announce enter password. It looks like VO activates whatever is in the lower left corner of the display if you touch the screen immediately after activating the slide to unlock area. Visually, the display is blank, during this time, so sighted people do not touch the display until it refreshes with the next screen. I suspect the bug may actually be present for the sighted as well, but nobody would touch the display until they can see what they are activating. Will this bug be fixed in ios 6 --
Re: VoiceOver and passcode for iPhone
Hello, We will not know until iOS 6 is released. No matter what anybody thinks, even bugs that you are sure must be easy to fix may not be. There are many, many factors that may be involved. This is the case for all bugs. I have worked as a beta tester, an alpha tester, and in product development many years ago, and I can confidently state that no matter how obvious the result of the bug, tracking it down is quite often slow and extremely painstaking work. Also, it is quite common for a bug fix to cause other bugs to occur. In fact, this can usually be guaranteed to be the case, and is one of the reasons I changed from programming to other career paths many many years ago.
