Re: VoiceOver stopped working on iPhone SE with iOS 11

2017-09-21 Thread Shai
Hello Cris,
I would second Davi's suggestion. I would also suggest reporting it to
Apple Accessibility if you haven't done so already. I had a similar
incident occur on my iPhone6S. Here, VoiceOver was speaking, but I
could not flick across my apps on the home screen or power off the
phone. I attempted to toggle VoiceOver off and on via the triple click
home, but to no avail. Worse was when I attempted to hold down the
power and home buttons together to perform a reboot, I could not do so
as Siri would come up. The support person told me to dismiss the Siri
tone and keep holding these down. He also told me to press the home
button once and try flicking across the screen since my phone did not
reboot immediately. The phone did restart again and since then it is
working well.

I saw thread about someone losing VoiceOver speech after an upgrade. It turns
out that their volume have been reduced to two or 3%, at which point VoiceOver
wasn't talking. So maybe you can check all of your volumes somehow? At least
try the volume up button a bunch of times to see if that helps? Maybe you did
that already.

Hi Chris,

Actually, sadam is right, if you put the phone in recovery mode it does not
matter if you have a passcode, if you have Find my iPhone turned on etc.,
recovery mode bypasses all of that.

Sadam,
Unfortunately it is not possible to do restore when you have this kind of
problem if you have a passcode on your phone. You can’t give the ok to the
phone to trust the computer without typing your passcode first. Without
voiceover, you will not be able to type the passcode without sighted help.

The suggestion to use headphones is a good one give it a go.

If that fails I'd recommend sighted assistance to get through the pass code.

Otherwise, restore from a recent backup.

2017-09-20 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
That’s a pretty drastic measure for a small issue like the volume dropping to
0%. If he had plugged in a set of headphones he would have probably had volume
and he could have turned the rotor to volume, then disconnected the headsets
and swiped up. In any case, I wonder if Chris pressed and held the volume
button because that does not work, you just have to press volume up many times
and let go in between for the volume to come up.

You can get around this by putting the device in recovery mode.

I did it with the 7.

After 15-20 seconds it'll come up and say there was a problem updating this

If it can't update at that point, you'll be able to go through the normal

RE: Voiceover stopped working on iPhone SE with iOS 11

2017-09-20 Thread Cris Ali
Thanks folks,
Thanks to Gordon I managed to solve the problem. When I tried the volume
buttons on the side of the phone, they did not work. Luckily I added the
voiceover volume to the rotor while back, but I have forgotten about that. In
fact it did not even occur to me to consider the rotor because I have no
voiceover sound at all.
Gordon suggested to me to try the rotor systematically by making a couple of
swipes up after doing each rotor’s circle until I land on the volume control.
I followed his suggestion and it worked. I was able to raise the volume of
voiceover up enough to make it audible and be able to manage the phone.
Cheers,
Cris

Hi Chris,

Donna’s suggestion to u se a headset is a good one and also Mary’s suggestion
to try and raise the volume is something you have to try. For me everything was
fine at first after the update, but at one point I didn’t hear Voiceover any
more, either and it turned out that just like the other person said the volume
just dropped to 0 or close to 0. Repeatedly pressing volume up brought it back
and it hasn’t done this again since that one time. Maybe Apple has built that
in just to mess with us *smile*.

Hi Chris

I have 2 suggestions..Ask Siri to turn on voiceover. My 2nd suggestion is..Plug
in a pair of earphones & see if sound &/voiceover can be heard when using
earphones.

Donna

Hello folks,
I upgraded iPhone SE to iOS 11 last night. Everything went smoothly.
Voiceover was working fine. I have a pass code on my iPhone. This morning
voiceover stopped talking. Now I am stuck.
I can’t do system restore because I have no voiceover input at all. Because I
have a pass code I can’t get my iPhone to trust the computer to try doing
restore using iTunes.
I tried the home key triple clicks several times to turn voiceover on and off.
It does respond, but voiceover still won’t talk. I know that this triple click
of the home key works fine because the screen clicks sound gets turned on and
off with this command. I also know that the speakers work because I made a
friend of mine call me via facetime and I was able to talk to her.
Is there a magic trick to try before I seek sighted help to do a system restore?
Cheers,
Cris night

2017-09-20 Thread Sadam Ahmed

I did try invoking Siri    repeatedly to no avail.

The suggestion to use headphones is a good one give it a go.

If that fails I'd recommend sighted assistance to get through the pass
code.

Otherwise, restore from a recent backup.

Re: VoiceOver stopped working on iPhone SE with iOS 11

2017-09-20 Thread Mary Otten
I saw thread about someone losing VoiceOver speech after an upgrade. It turns
out that their volume have been reduced to two or 3%, at which point VoiceOver
wasn't talking. So maybe you can check all of your volumes somehow? At least
try the volume up button a bunch of times to see if that helps? Maybe you did
that already.
