RE: Airpods with a Windows PC [was "RE: Wired Apple Earpods with 3.5mm connector was RE: Wired alternative to Apple Lightning earbuds"]

2021-07-03 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Hmm, this doesn't make any sense to me. I'd assume the feature where they shut
off when you pull them out of your ears would just be dependent on the ear buds
themselves and wouldn't have anything to do with the system you connect them
to. I'll have to give them a try with my PC sometime soon, since this has all
peeked my curiosity.

Plus it also seems that this is the only thing you meant when you said " You
can use them with a windows machine but that's not going to work well." Even if
what you say is true then that means they would still work like any other
Bluetooth earbuds on a PC, so I wouldn’t consider this not working well.

They don't turn off when you take them out of yor ears.

I'm surprised Apple's wireless Airpods don't work well with a Windows machine.
What's the problem? I'd assume they're still just basic Bluetooth ear buds, so
I'd think they'd work just fine with Windows. I'm pretty sure I've paired them
with my PC in the past, but it's been a while, so I don't remember how well
they worked or didn't work.

Yeah that is the issue if you need to use the headphones with other machines,

The 3.5 mm jack is required,

However if it's a mac computer or iPad then you can use the apple wireless
airpods on the machine,

You can use them with a windows machine but that's not going to work well.

I forgot about that, for those who want to use their Earpods with a computer or

Carolyn,

I don't know what you mean by one of the older wired Apple Earpods but if you
mean one with a 3.5mm connector, Apple still sells those for $19. I expect you
might be able to find them for less at Amazon but I love buying directly from

I wish someone had one of the older ones for sale. I'd buy for my Victor

Years ago sony use to be the way to go.

That was a good 25 yr plus ago,
Now, they don't even compare with the apple earpods (wired )

I've got 3 pair of the 3.5mm wired apple earpods sitting in a draw for when the
current ones break or just die.

Carolyn,

I don't know what you mean by one of the older wired Apple Earpods but if you
mean one with a 3.5mm connector, Apple still sells those for $19. I expect you
might be able to find them for less at Amazon but I love buying directly from
Apple since you usually get free shipping. Here's the link to the wired Earpods

I agree with you, Wayne, that Apple ear buds are about as good as you can get
for the money too, plus, they are very comfortable even to me with my hearing
aids. I am just so fortunate that a lady on one of the buy/sell lists had some
for sale, and I got two. I had one that came with my 11, so I have three now,
and the one that came with my SE for my computer.

I wish someone had one of the older ones for sale. I'd buy for my Victor
Stream.

I am quite certain something like that would be available on Amazon, if not it
may just be necessary to use a separate headset for your laptop or other
devices. I prefer a wireless headset for use with my laptop because I also have
a wireless keyboard and usually don't sit in front of my laptop when I use it.

Shame,

I'd love one of those also,

If you hadn't noticed all notebooks have 3.5mm headphone jacks, so how do you
plug in a set of lightening connector headphones.

Hi Wayne,

My opinion is that the wired Apple earpods for use with the iPhone is the best
wired alternative available for the price. I haven't experienced the quality
issues that you have but I alternate using mine with Apple Airpods so my usage
might not be as extensive as yours. I find that many products can suffer in
their quality after a number of years as manufacturers do what they can to make
them at the lowest possible cost. But, at $19 for a new set directly from
Apple, down from their original price of $30, I find the wired Earpods worth
the price especially considering they were made for the iPhone and their
separate remote and volume buttons work great with iPhone apps such as BARD
Mobile. And I hesitate to mention fit since this is personal to each person,
but I've never used any earbuds that fit as well nor sound as good while still
letting in some ambient sound as the Apple Earpods.

Good luck with your shopping.

them at the lowest possible cost.

All,
My original purpose in not buying the 'earbuds from Apple was partly price, but
it was also their construction. Granted, these aren't as advanced as other
models out there, not to mention the wireless choices, but I have had quite a
few gradually or suddenly lose sound in one ear, exhibit a crackling sound
randomly in 1 ear, or even 1 earbud set physically came apart while I was
listening to an American football game. Like someone else has said, whenever I
get a new device I typically buy 1 or 2 extra earbuds, if only to stockpile. My
sighted wife has had the same issue, though I'm not sure hers has been as
frequent as mine. Finally, 1 of the recommendations given was for a 3.5mm jack,
but I would need a Lightning jack or chord for the earbuds.

Kind regards,

Which makes me wonder, is there an adapter to be able to use a lightning on a
3.5? Let's say that I'd want to use the wired iPhone earbuds that are
lightning, on a Stream, or other device?

The 3.5mm to Lightning issue could be resolved with a $10 or less adapter.

RE: Wired alternative to Apple Lightning earbuds

2021-06-25 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Yeah I've kept headphones from the phones and iPods I've purchased over the
years,

And just gone through those as I need them.

I did give a couple of pair away but the only real issue I have with them now
is that I have a couple of lightening connection versions sitting in a box,
But they don't connect to my notebook when I'm running windows.

So I purchased a couple of sony headphones similar design but crap sound and
they cost me $9 each NZ.

I know he said he was looking for alternatives, but for me an alternative which
its inside the ear and blocks off all or most sound is not an alternative.
Despite the fact that the Apple Earbuds break from time to time I still think
they are the best wired ear buds on the market as far as sound qualiy,
functionality and not blocking out external noise are concerned. If you can
find them for $10 or $15 from sources like eBay, Amazon or GroupOn then that
would be pretty acceptable to me, I would just buy 4 or 5 at a time and use
them up. I use mie all the time and I'm pretty hard on them as well, just
yesterday I accidently dropped them and rolled over one of the ear pieces with
my office chair, ell, so much for that, if it had been one of the Apple Airpods
Pro I would have been a lot more upset!

I think the point is Wayne did not want to spend more money on the Apple
EarPods. Giving him ways to spend less on the same product isn’t solving his
issue.

Wayne, try this alternative:

2021-06-25 Thread Carolyn
I agree about the Apple buds - bought a couple from a lady on one of the sell
lists. Of course, one came with my phone. Then, I have the ones from my SE in
my computer speakers. When I play music on Google, they make it sound really
good.

Greetings. After nearly 10 years, I'm losing my attraction to the wired Apple
earbuds. It seems like I've gone through several pairs over the last year or
so; they don't last as long as advertised; and I am tired of paying Apple's
prices. Does anyone know of an alternative to these earbuds? I know that
wireless earbuds are the current craze, but I prefer wired ones. I would also
like to have the same abilities to adjust volume and handle media/phone calls
with the in-line buttons. All thoughts welcome.

Wired alternative to Apple Lightning earbuds

2021-06-24 Thread Wayne Merritt
Greetings. After nearly 10 years, I'm losing my attraction to the
wired Apple earbuds. It seems like I've gone through several pairs
over the last year or so; they don't last as long as advertised; and I
am tired of paying Apple's prices. Does anyone know of an alternative
to these earbuds? I know that wireless earbuds are the current craze,
but I prefer wired ones. I would also like to have the same abilities
to adjust volume and handle media/phone calls with the in-line
buttons. All thoughts welcome.

Kindly,
Wayne Merritt
