RE: can anyone out there use the Libby app from Overdrive?
I believe there's a Libby Windows app through the Microsoft store, but it's nothing I've ever played with so can't speak as to its accessibility. That makes sense. Also, if you have cards for more than one library they will all show up in the app provided you have added them. For example, I have cards for the Philadelphia free library and the Brooklyn free library and I use the same app to borrow books from either place. DRM's got nothing to do with that. As far as Voiceover reading the text, I found that accessible. It was the navigating chapters and continuous reading to be wonky. Re: can anyone out there use the Libby app from Overdrive?
I couldn’t read an e-book in the Libby app at all, unless I opened it as a kindle book. You also have the option of EPUB but I didn’t try that because it indicated that it had DRM protection and I wasn’t sure that would work with voiceover. Libby works great for audiobooks and that’s what I mostly use it for. But you can’t beat Kindle for e-books in my opinion. The Overdrive app for iOS is going to be phased out for Libby. I’ve mainly use Libby for audiobooks. The audiobook experience is completely accessible. Playback can go as fast as 3X. I tried reading one e-book in the same app. It wasn’t really intuitive and I really couldn’t get around it well enough, but I didn’t really stick with it enough to try figuring it out. As someone else mentioned though, you have the option to open e-books in the Kindle app as well though. Not saying that the Libby app isn’t accessible, but I just didn’t have time or the desire to try to figure it out with that book. All in all though, the Libby app is pretty much voiceover accessible. RE: can anyone out there use the Libby app from Overdrive?
ne The process described above was done in a web browser on a computer, but you can also check out books with OverDrive's handy "Libby" app. The process is similar, but we'll show you how to do it. Download the Libby app on your iPhone<https://geo.itunes.apple.com/us/app/libby-by-overdrive-labs/id1076402606?pt=211483=meetLibby=8=1010loXs=735643>, iPad<https://geo.itunes.apple.com/us/app/libby-by-overdrive-labs/id1076402606?pt=211483=meetLibby=8=1010loXs=735643>, or Android<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.overdrive.mobile.android.libby=utm_source%3Dmeet_libby> device. [Libby in the App Store.] Once it's installed, the app will ask whether you have a library card. Tap "Yes." [The app will ask if you have a library card. Tap "Yes."] Next, you'll have a few options for selecting your library. The "Yes, Guess My Library" option will use your location. [Choose a method to find library.] Advertisement After you've selected your library, you'll be guided through entering your library card number. [Entering your library card.] Once that's all taken care of, you'll be ready to search for ebooks. Use the Search tab at the bottom to do this. [Use the Search tab at the bottom.] Use the "Refine" tool on the results page to select "Kindle" in the "Supports" section. [Use the "Refine" tool on the results page to select "Kindle" in the "Supports" section.] Find a book that says "Borrow." Books that aren't currently available will say "Place Hold." ["Borrow" a book.] Tap "Borrow" on the book information page. [Tap "Borrow" on the book information page.] Select how many days you want to borrow the book, and then tap "Borrow." If you're already on the device where you want to read the book, tap "Read Now in the Kindle App." [Read Now in the Kindle App] This all might seem like a complex process, but it's pretty easy after you've finished all the initial library searching and signing in with your card.
