Re: connecting braille sense polaris to iphone via bluetooth

2019-10-06 Thread Richard Turner
I forgot about your device having terminal mode, I would assume it should be in
terminal mode, otherwise, it is not in a state to connect.
You may want to confirm this through trial and error, or by calling HIMS.

With all braille displays, the sequence used when connecting or disconnecting
is critical.
Basically, your display should be on when you either lock or unlock your iPhone.
then, they should reconnect automatically.
If you, for example, turn off your braille display while the phone is unlocked,
there is a very good chance you will have to forget it and pair it again the
next time.
So, when you want to use the braille device with your phone, turn it on while
the phone is locked, then unlock the phone.
It may take a few seconds, but they should connect easily.
When you are done, lock the phone first, then turn off the display.
My Orbit Reader 20 connects flawlessly this way.
So a device costing nearly 10 times that should work as well.

I can't be sure about the Polaris, but I have confirmed with HumanWare that
this is a known bug in the BrailleNote Touch that will not be fixed anytime
soon. So beware of purchasing it if this is one of the things you are looking
for (it's a terrible, clunky device in general anyway, I still prefer to use my

The BrailleNote Touch has an identical problem. It seems like notetaker's are
becoming inferior choices of actual Braille displays with other devices.
