Re: does the roomba detect stairs?

2022-07-20 Thread Mike Arrigo
The quiz might be out of date, the S5 is no longer available, the S7 is newer
and better anyway. The Q5 does not mop but the Q7 and Q7 max will but the mop
does not vibrate like it does with the S7 series.

Once again, Mich is from Ontario so he most likely looked up Canadian pricing
which is most likely about 30% higher due to the exchange rate.

Hi many thanks. I just looked at the price of the roborock and it seems a bit
steep it was over 1000 from Mich.

Every robot vacuum that is currently available has drop sensors to prevent
falling down stairs so this should not be an issue, I would definitely go for a
Roborock instead of a Roomba.

RE: does the roomba detect stairs?

2022-07-19 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Why don't you go to the manufacturer's website and get the information from the
horse's mouth so to speak.
Also a simple Google search for "Roborock E series vs S series" will probably
yield comparisons and reviews.

As for Mich saying he couldn't find anything for $200, keep in mind that most
people discussing this are from the US so if it's $200 in the US it means it's
probably at least $260 to $300 here in Canada.

The major differences are that the S7 has LiDAR and better mapping and
navigation support. The E5 has a camera and navigates by inertia. The S7 app
also gives you access to more features, like changing the suction power. The
E5 has some advantages, like a larger dustbin and it comes with a remote.

One thing my sighted wife and I did with the S7 last night was that I told
her when the S7 ran during the day, I'm not sure it covered our family room
/ kitchen area. My wife was able to see from the map that for some reason it
did skip this room. She was able to pull up the map of our downstairs and
label each room. She also noticed that the S7 considered our entry way,
dining room and family room as all one room. My wife was able to draw a
boundary between the dining room and the family room and give them different
labels. We were then able to send the S7 to clean just the family room /
kitchen. I haven't done this yet, but I'm sure I can add Siri shortcuts to
give the S7 commands to clean specific rooms.

Here's a good review of the differences between the E5 and the S5. The S5
isn't the same as the S7, but this article will give you a good
understanding of the differences between the E series and the S series.

I'm not really in the market for an E5 myself, but here's two links I found
rather quickly for the Roborock E5 at $200 or less.

Here's a link to Walmart with an E5 for $200.

RE: does the roomba detect stairs?

2022-07-18 Thread Christopher Chaltain
The major differences are that the S7 has LiDAR and better mapping and
navigation support. The E5 has a camera and navigates by inertia. The S7 app
also gives you access to more features, like changing the suction power. The E5
has some advantages, like a larger dustbin and it comes with a remote.

One thing my sighted wife and I did with the S7 last night was that I told her
when the S7 ran during the day, I'm not sure it covered our family room /
kitchen area. My wife was able to see from the map that for some reason it did
skip this room. She was able to pull up the map of our downstairs and label
each room. She also noticed that the S7 considered our entry way, dining room
and family room as all one room. My wife was able to draw a boundary between
the dining room and the family room and give them different labels. We were
then able to send the S7 to clean just the family room / kitchen. I haven't
done this yet, but I'm sure I can add Siri shortcuts to give the S7 commands to
clean specific rooms.

Here's a good review of the differences between the E5 and the S5. The S5 isn't
the same as the S7, but this article will give you a good understanding of the
differences between the E series and the S series.

I would avoid the e4 or e5 unless you have a really small place, those two
don't use mapping, they are more random, I would get something from the Q
series or S series.

2022-07-17 Thread Kay Malmquist
I know that the Roomba did as of ten years ago, so I can only assume that it
still does. As for the Roborock, I don't know, but I can't imagine not.

RE: does the roomba detect stairs?

2022-07-17 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Sure, the Roborock S7 MaxV is over $1000, but there are many models much
cheaper than that. We didn't pay anywhere near $1K for our S7. I just Googled
this, and I saw an E5 for $200.

RE: does the roomba detect stairs?

2022-07-17 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I did see this feature, i.e. detecting stairs, as a feature mentioned with
specific models of robot vacuums, so I assumed if this feature wasn't
specifically called out then the particular model wouldn't have it. It's good
to know that my S7 has this feature. BTW, I did double check and indeed the S7
has a sensor to detect stairs!

Re: does the roomba detect stairs?

2022-07-17 Thread Mike Arrigo
Every robot vacuum that is currently available has drop sensors to prevent
falling down stairs so this should not be an issue, I would definitely go for a
Roborock instead of a Roomba.

Re: does the roomba detect stairs?

2022-07-17 Thread Feliciano Godoy
Hi,
It will fall off stairs if that’s what you’re asking. There are also external
sensors that can be purchased to prevent this from happening. Mind you, you can
always place a cane/broom on the floor by the stairs so that it doesn’t go past
it as well.

does the roomba detect stairs?

2022-07-17 Thread michv
Hi all I know how accessible the Roomba app is by readin the reviews but I
am wondering if it detects stairs? Since I live in a one bedroom upstairs
apt and if I was going to get this vacume or another one the roborocks one I
would not want it to stumble down the stairs. Many thanks. From Mich.
