iPhone voices

2018-03-31 Thread Jewel
I have several voices on my iPhone, but I listen to only one, Karen. I would
like to be able to
listen to the others from time to time: I am sure that Karen will understand,
but how do I make the
change from, say, Karen to Lee?

iPhone voices

2017-08-15 Thread Casey
Hi since we have A number of voices now to select that the iPhone has now.

Like Alex and Ava and the old one that the phone first came with.

What all are you liking for you go to voice?

I know a lot of you like Alex on your phone.

I have used him to but doesn't he use A bit more battery then others?

Also what voice to you like the best out of all of them for use on A daily
basis?

And why do you select the voice you do?

IPhone voices

2013-12-12 Thread rhs
Hi,

I just now updated my IPhone to IOS 7. The voice seems to have dropped in
quality. Where do I determine if I'm using the compact voice or the high
quality voice?

Thanks

Jewel,

Your message was confusing at first. The iPhone has two voices: the
VoiceOver voice and the Siri voice. there are male and female versions
of the different dialects of English such as American, UK, south
African, and Australian. Siri voices can be used for both Siri and
voiceover.

2017-08-15 Thread Patti Johnson
I have Alex on my Ipad, and Daniel on my phone. Why? Well because I
do like Alex's clear voice, but I also dearly love the British voice
and accent, plus, and I know this is goofy but I can't help it, he
sounds a lot like the guy who played Mr. Carson on Downton Abbey.
Ok, I'm nuts, I'll admit it.

2017-08-15 Thread Kelly Pierce
I used the Siri male Australian voice when I had an iPhone 5. I like
to have a different voice for Siri from VoiceOver. Alex is not
available for the iPhone 5 so I used Tom for VoiceOver. I like the
clear, but casual speaking tone of Tom. The British voices sounded
wooden and halting. The Irish voices sounded affected. The South
African voices seemed to speak with a lisp. The Indian voices were
high pitched. This left the Australian voices, which were more than
acceptable, particularly the Siri male Australian voice. People found
it a little jarring in public though to hear a clear Australian accent
with a friendly casual tone coming from my phone when I asked Siri
about the temperature outside, a baseball score, or my location.

Re: iPhone voices

2017-08-16 Thread Greg Wocher
Hello,
I usually use Tom on my iPhone. I would like to use Alex but he has one problem
that really bothers me. If a word is in all caps he spells it out rather than
reading the word. This makes it difficult to read twitter and sometimes it
makes it difficult to read emails.

Regards,
Greg Wocher

Lol no, you're not. :) I was starting to think it was just me, too! I can't
stand HQ Samantha! She has too many weird up/down inflections for my taste. She
reminds me somewhat of the Ivona or Acapela voices. I used to use compact
Karen, but she's changed somewhat in iOS 9 or 10, and I don't like her quite as
much anymore.

Thanks,

Re: IPhone voices

2013-12-12 Thread Christopher Chaltain
There are potentially two places to check. First, Settings -> General ->
Accessibility -> Voice Over On and look for the Use compact voice
setting. This should be toggled to off if you want to use the high
quality voices.

Also, continue on into Languages and Dialects and double tap on your
default dialect. At the bottom, you'll want to make sure Enhanced
quality is set to on. This will download the enhanced quality voice if
it needs to.

Questions regarding iPhone voices

2018-04-11 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

I have some questions regarding the iPhone voices. I am not trying to
possibly start something here by asking these questions. I would just
honestly like to know peoples thoughts on the matter.

Alright, for quite a while I used the voice of Alex. It seemed the
clearest to me, and the loudest.

However, I recently switch to the enhanced voice of Tom. I like it
alright. But I think I might like the voice of Alex better. Besides the
fact that he breathes. That is different!

Anyway, I am currently using Ayva. I like her. But the voice almost
seems too soft. I can't exactly put in to words what I mean by this.

Anyway if I turn up my phone too much, then any voice seems distorted.
The 1 thing I used to like about my Android, was that the voice I used
was louder, and clearer.

But maybe it's this phone, or the case, or a number of reasons. I just
don't know.

Do you all have any thoughts?

Terri

Re: Questions regarding iPhone voices

2018-04-11 Thread Carla Savage
Hi Terry,
I use british voices on my iPhones. I have noticed that on my iPhone 6, the
voices can get distorted, however, on my 8, the voices are much clearer. This
is due to the better speakers on the 8. I also like Alex, but it draws a lot on
the processor so I've switched to the siri female voice for now. I have Ava on
my iPod though and really like her. Although she can be soft and it depends on
what environment you are in and whether you are just using the speaker or
headphones. It's all very subjective.
Hope this is helpful.
Take care,
Carla.

Re: Questions regarding iPhone voices

2018-04-11 Thread Kelly Pierce
I like to have different voices for Siri and VoiceOver. I currently
use Alex for VoiceOver and tom for Siri. If I use Tom for voiceOver
and the male Australian voice for Siri, peple around me act startled
to hear an Australian dialect that is clear and confident. So I stick
to Alex and Tom so folks don't get freaked out when hearing my iPhone.
