Re: need help with what search term to use in the archives

2013-09-09 Thread Joseph FreeTech
Hi,

Your Google groups archive search question seemed like an interesting
question so decided to follow-up:

To search Google Groups archives:
1. Follow this link (it is placed at the bottom of every message sent to
this list):
http://www.mail-archive.com/viphone@googlegroups.com/

2. In the first edit field type the term associated with your search of
interest and press enter. For example, type the following:
app switcher

3. Read the subsequent page from top down. You will eventually come across a
list of all posts associated with the search terms you entered.

4. Press enter on the link which begins the specific thread of interest.

5. The first post associated with the thread will be presented, so you might
have to press enter on the links associated with the subsequent posts from
others to review the related information.

It is a very simple and quick process to complete, but it can be time
consuming as you will have to enter on the subject, read the page, backspace
to list of related subjects, down arrow to new subject line and press enter
once again. As I was typing this I was running various searches and the
Google archive page crashed on me several times. I will definitely use this
procedure in the future.

In regards to your question... If you search for the following term you
should get many hits as I did:
call timer

2013-09-09 Thread Joseph FreeTech
Oh yeah, some of the suggestions posted by list members for dealing with
call timer...
*Mute voiceover with 3-finger double-tap.
*After receiving the call, swipe away from the call timer
*Execute a triple tap of home button to unload voiceover.

2013-09-09 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi, first off, let me say that I think it's great that you want to look
in the message archives. Too many people on list either don't know about
them, or know but don't care to use them for some reason which I can't
figure out. In any case, since the discussion has been brought up many
times I figured there are many topics the archives would find. If it was
me I would type speaks during phone call, or something similar. Typing
that I found the following one, but I know there are more.

Some will find the archives quicker, but others will find them a

Re: need help with what search term to use in the archives

2013-09-09 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Don't forget that in addition to the time it takes you to compose a
message and wait for the responses, you have the bandwidth of that
message going out to 2000 list members, the time it takes for them to
read the message, the time it takes those to respond, the bandwidth of
those responses, the time it takes those 2000 list members to read
duplicate responses and so on.

I'm not saying people shouldn't post questions. People definitely
should, and as you said, there are lots of helpful people here willing
to answer questions. I consider using the list archive to be like
learning to use Google. With practice and experience it becomes easier
and easier to use. With very few exceptions, it's much easier for me to
find what I'm looking for with a quick Google search than it is to ask a
question on a list. Taking the time to learn how to search the list
archives should be considered an investment. It's like learning how to
fish instead of just asking for a fish.

IMHO, no one should hesitate to ask a question, but people should be
aware that anything they put on the list is going to 1500 list members
or more, so they should realize that it isn't free and of course they
should be considerate of other list members.
