Re: still no wifi

2013-11-06 Thread Christina C.
I apologize but I have not read every email in this thread. Regina, Does this
wifi issue only happen at home? Can you get on wifi in other places such as
starbucks, McDonald’s, the library, work, or a friend’s house? I feel really
bad for you. I had major problems getting my iMac to stay on the internet. So I
can relate a bit to your problem.

Can you possibly send an email with an update and a list of everything you
have tried thus far. A lot of suggestions were sent your way.

Best wishes,
Christina

RE: still no wifi

2013-11-06 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Regina,

I am so sorry to hear that your 4 S is still not working. Rest assured that
this is consistent with a known issue regarding the 4 and the 4 S although
the problem seems to be more prevalent on the 4 S.

Apparently, according to various sources on the web, Apple used a more
cheaply made WiFi chip in some of it's 4 S devices.

A friend of mine had this problem with her 4 S last month.

We resolved the issue by, as I learned from Google, simply renaming her
phone making sure not to use an apostrophe in the name. So, for example,
instead of the name being Regina's, iPhone 4 S" it would be "Regina 4 S".

You can rename your phone in iTunes or on the device itself. To rename the
phone on the device, itself, do the following:

1.
>From the Settings menu, select General.

2.
Select About Phone. The first item you will see is the name of the phone,
which is a button. Simply activate the button and rename the phone.

Next, turn off the phone.

Then, Reboot your Wifi router.

Finally power on the phone.

Hopefully, this will get you up and running.

Regina, resolving this issue via software is a black art. For some people
it will work and for others it will not.

As I stated yesterday, there are plenty of suggestions on how to get this
working again but, keep in mind, there are no guarantees.

Finally, if you do not have Apple Care on the phone and it is out of
warranty, you will have to pay in order to get it repaired.

Please understand that you did nothing to cause this malfunction.

Most Sincerely,

Mark

2013-11-06 Thread Alan Paganelli

I suppose the nuclear option might just be the last resort

Settings, general, reset, erase content and settings.

On my iPhone 4, when I had a problem that I couldn't resolve with a reset,
that is to say hold down the power button and the home button for 10
seconds. Somebody called it the nuclear option because you lose everything
but what it does is it returns your iPhone to the way it was the day you
bought it. When it was finished, of course I had to reload everything but I
had my music and apps backed up. It did fix the problem though. I would
only use this option if you've tried everything else. It will return your
phone to the status it was in when you bought it.

I'm guessing this suggestion would have been included within one of the
resets you tried, but once I had to go through the process of telling my
phone to Forget this network" or something like that, and it fixed whatever
the problem I was having at the time.

In Settings find your WiFi network
, flick right to More Info, then double tap and on the next screen flick
right through the screen until it gets to Forget this network." And press OK
or whatever it tells you to do. Then go back to Settings WiFi look for
networkds to join , click on your network and reenter your password.

I can't imagine this would work given all you've been through, but at least
I wanted to throw it out there. We all hope you can get this fixed.

2013-11-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Reggie,

If a reboot and resetting network settings doesn't help then it is likely
your iPhone is simply defective and you should get Apple to take a look at
it.
I suppose you could restore it to factory settings to see if that fixes the
issue.

any instrructions you may have Mark as even if I can find something in
google your work arounds may help someone else not panic as I have done. At
least I know there is nothing I did, really. I have no triple tap home, Siri
will not turn on and off wifi, turned my phone off and on more times than I
can count (probably wore out on-off button and I did the main reboot about 5
times. I also did both resets that won't lose my data. I even called Sprint,
but they are people with no idea what I am talking about. Sure hope this
never happens to anyone else. I was 6 hours on the phone with Apple for my

I'm guessing this suggestion would have been included within one of the resets

I was having at the time.

In Settings find your WiFi network

whatever it tells you to do. Then go back to Settings WiFi look for networkds
to join , click on your network and reenter your password.

I can't imagine this would work given all you've been through, but at least I
wanted to throw it out there. We all hope you can get this fixed.

Just getting worse and worse! Will try to find something about this on Google,
but not sure how to word so Google will understand. Would appreciate any
instrructions you may have Mark as even if I can find something in google your
work arounds may help someone else not panic as I have done. At least I know
there is nothing I did, really. I have no triple tap home, Siri will not turn
on and off wifi, turned my phone off and on more times than I can count
(probably wore out on-off button and I did the main reboot about 5 times. I
also did both resets that won't lose my data. I even called Sprint, but they
are people with no idea what I am talking about. Sure hope this never happens
to anyone else. I was 6 hours on the phone with Apple for my iPad! Sure hope I
don't have to do that with my iPhone.

Hello Regina,

I'm on my way out of the house so cannot go into details as to possible
fixes but this is a known issue that has to do with the physical radio chip
on the device.

If you have not resolved the problem by later tonight, post to the list and
I will give you some possible solutions. Of course, Google is replete with
possible fixes on this.

I'm assuming your device is an iPhone 4, or 4 S?

This is driving me crazy! I have tried every reset except to literally
restore the phone. It worked on wifi last night fine. Is there a reset I can
do to just take iPhone out of wifi and reinstall it without doing a total
restore? Computers and iPad fine. My wifi is dimmed! Help, and thanks for
any help in advance. Seems iPhone in many ways has decided to give us a rumn
for the money!

Hi,

Has turning it off and on again had any affect? I'm also assuming that
airplane mode is *not* turned on. It's really worth checking these
little things before taking your device to Apple, especially if you
don't have a store nearby.

Cheers,
Ben.

Re: still no wifi

I haven't been following this discussion, but I assume Settings ->
General -> Reset -> Reset All Network Settings has already been tried.

still no wifi

2013-11-05 Thread Regina Alvarado
This is driving me crazy! I have tried every reset except to literally restore
the phone. It worked on wifi last night fine. Is there a reset I can do to just
take iPhone out of wifi and reinstall it without doing a total restore?
Computers and iPad fine. My wifi is dimmed! Help, and thanks for any help in
advance. Seems iPhone in many ways has decided to give us a rumn for the money!
