Re: still no wifi
I apologize but I have not read every email in this thread. Regina, Does this wifi issue only happen at home? Can you get on wifi in other places such as starbucks, McDonald’s, the library, work, or a friend’s house? I feel really bad for you. I had major problems getting my iMac to stay on the internet. So I can relate a bit to your problem. Can you possibly send an email with an update and a list of everything you have tried thus far. A lot of suggestions were sent your way. RE: still no wifi
Hello Regina, I am so sorry to hear that your 4 S is still not working. Rest assured that this is consistent with a known issue regarding the 4 and the 4 S although the problem seems to be more prevalent on the 4 S. Apparently, according to various sources on the web, Apple used a more cheaply made WiFi chip in some of it's 4 S devices. A friend of mine had this problem with her 4 S last month. We resolved the issue by, as I learned from Google, simply renaming her phone making sure not to use an apostrophe in the name. So, for example, instead of the name being Regina's, iPhone 4 S" it would be "Regina 4 S". You can rename your phone in iTunes or on the device itself. To rename the phone on the device, itself, do the following: 1. >From the Settings menu, select General. 2. Select About Phone. The first item you will see is the name of the phone, which is a button. Simply activate the button and rename the phone. Next, turn off the phone. Then, Reboot your Wifi router. Finally power on the phone. Hopefully, this will get you up and running. Regina, resolving this issue via software is a black art. For some people it will work and for others it will not. As I stated yesterday, there are plenty of suggestions on how to get this working again but, keep in mind, there are no guarantees. Finally, if you do not have Apple Care on the phone and it is out of warranty, you will have to pay in order to get it repaired. Please understand that you did nothing to cause this malfunction. Re: still no wifi
I suppose the nuclear option might just be the last resort Settings, general, reset, erase content and settings. On my iPhone 4, when I had a problem that I couldn't resolve with a reset, that is to say hold down the power button and the home button for 10 seconds. Somebody called it the nuclear option because you lose everything but what it does is it returns your iPhone to the way it was the day you bought it. When it was finished, of course I had to reload everything but I had my music and apps backed up. It did fix the problem though. I would only use this option if you've tried everything else. It will return your phone to the status it was in when you bought it. HTH --- Regards, Alan Go Chicago Bears in 2013! Teenagers; Tired of being harassed by your stupid parents? Act now! Move out. RE: still no wifi
Hi Reggie, If a reboot and resetting network settings doesn't help then it is likely your iPhone is simply defective and you should get Apple to take a look at it. I suppose you could restore it to factory settings to see if that fixes the issue. RE: still no wifi
I'm guessing this suggestion would have been included within one of the resets you tried, but once I had to go through the process of telling my phone to Forget this network" or something like that, and it fixed whatever the problem I was having at the time. In Settings find your WiFi network , flick right to More Info, then double tap and on the next screen flick right through the screen until it gets to Forget this network." And press OK or whatever it tells you to do. Then go back to Settings WiFi look for networkds to join , click on your network and reenter your password. I can't imagine this would work given all you've been through, but at least I wanted to throw it out there. We all hope you can get this fixed. Re: still no wifi
Just getting worse and worse! Will try to find something about this on Google, but not sure how to word so Google will understand. Would appreciate any instrructions you may have Mark as even if I can find something in google your work arounds may help someone else not panic as I have done. At least I know there is nothing I did, really. I have no triple tap home, Siri will not turn on and off wifi, turned my phone off and on more times than I can count (probably wore out on-off button and I did the main reboot about 5 times. I also did both resets that won't lose my data. I even called Sprint, but they are people with no idea what I am talking about. Sure hope this never happens to anyone else. I was 6 hours on the phone with Apple for my iPad! Sure hope I don't have to do that with my iPhone. reggie and Allegra On Nov 5, 2013, at 2:36 PM, Christopher Chaltain wrote: I haven't been following this discussion, but I assume Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset All Network Settings has already been tried. > On 11/05/2013 01:09 PM, Joseph Hudson wrote: > Hello Regina, no there is no special reset thing for just resetting the Wi-Fi > and less you erase all your settings. Re: still no wifi
Well, I think my iPhone is possessed. I still have no wifi, all the things suggested done including resetting all settings. When I asked Siri to turn my wifi on, she said she did it, but then when I then asked her to turn it ouf to see if there was any difference in the status bar, she told me wifi was already off. Now when I tap the home button 3 times, it says app switcher, but it is not in the app switcher. Cannot turn off VO any longer. OMG, what in the world happened? I used it last night and it was fine. Now it will not even reset? screaming in frustration and worry somehow I broke it and I have a month until I can upgrade reggie and Allegra On Nov 5, 2013, at 3:53 PM, "Alan Paganelli" wrote: I assume you've tried asking siri to turn WI-FI on? --- Regards, Alan Go Chicago Bears in 2013! Re: still no wifi
Hi, Has turning it off and on again had any affect? I'm also assuming that airplane mode is *not* turned on. It's really worth checking these little things before taking your device to Apple, especially if you don't have a store nearby. Cheers, Ben. On 11/5/13, Regina Alvarado wrote: > No, but I will.
