RE: very basic iPad question
I wouldn't get an iPad Mini, or iPad of any kind, if you're happy with your iPhone. Yeah, it's everyone's individual choice yadda yadda, but honestly, I've got an iPad and an iPhone and the iPad just feels bulky and unnecessary. Pair up your iPhone with a Bluetooth, and you're going to get the exact same experience. Longer battery life? Not enough to make a difference and not something one of the portable battery pakcs can't solve. More screen real estate to get a better sense of web layout? This could make a difference if you're a web developer and need to verify the position of text, but even then the difference is insignificant. I've got an iPad 4 that I am not motivated enough to try to keep selling, but from my own perspective, for a blind person the iPad is not the best investment of money. Save up a little more and get a Mac Air. Re: very basic iPad question
The phone is a pocket sized out and about thing where retaining battery life is a consideration. The Mini is an armchair thing for home, but not at the desk; and you're within readch of power when you need to, though it is a very good battery life. On a desk and in landsccape mode, you can type on it almost normally. But with a bt keyboard, you can do that to the phone. But it's the home and away bit mainly. That, and just like these things. RE: very basic iPad question
Hi Kim, You may want to check the archive for iPad Mini as there have been a few discussions since the iPad Mini was released in late October. Anyhow, basically the iPad Mini can't really do a lot the iPhone can't do except that there are some iPad specific apps which you may or may not find useful. Unfortunately I can't think of any example right now, maybe somebody else will give one. Apart from that the larger screen is what most people find attractive and it seems from posts I have read on here that many people find a full-sized iPad almost too large as special orientation is more difficult, the iPad Mini seems to be just right to give more space but not so much to make it hard to find stuff. The iPad Mini also has stereo speakers and they would be a bit louder and probably of better quality than those on an iPhone simply due to their size. I think an iPad Mini is definitely on my list as well, but for the time being I'm sitting on the fence to see if there will be a new one in March. According to Rob from the Today in iOS podcast he doesn't think there will be any new major product announcements until June and even though the iPad Retina as the full-size iPad it is now called was updated twice last year in March and October, he predicts that it maybe the first iDevice to be updated once again. Having a retina display is certainly of no importance for a blind person unless you have sighted people in the family who would also use it, but I was sort of waiting to see if the next iPad Mini will have a retina display. Once again, Rob from Today in iOS doesn't think the iPad Mini will get a retina display until 2014, but while he is totally in the loop as far as one can be with Apple, I somehow would be surprised if it took this long considering that everything now including the new MacBook Pro has a retina screen. In any case, It's already February so I'll wait until the end of March and by then I probably will say I may as well wait until June and I know that if I wait until June and still nothing has been announced I will most definitely wait until September or October at that point. I very much enjoyed doing email on the iPad versus the iPhone. Also, in many apps there are listings on the left, and specifics on the right. For example, your list of messages are on the left, and when you choose a person who sent you a message, the conversation is on the right. There is no need to go into another screen. Re: very basic iPad question
HI. I agree with you about the size of the mini. I too enjoy email more. I've found if I use the roter to go to containers, I can flick up to get to the reply, delete buttons etc and flick down a couple of times to get to the Message. When I used to check email using a blue tooth keyboard on the iphone, there seemed to be a lot of arrowing around especially if the iphone was out of reach and I couldn't touch specific areas of the screen in order to jump quickly between elements. this doesn't happen so much with the container option on the roter with the mini.
