voice dream update
It seems that the Voice Dream Reader update has gone from the app store. I previously reported having no problems getting the update on my iPad mini and my iPhone 5s. I still have an old 4S, which I just updated, and the VDR update was not in the list of available updates. No idea why that should be, but there you go. Winston is not available at this point. I sent a note to him last evening stating appreciation for the Ivona reading improvements and asking if he plans to offer the Ashley voice from the same folks who brought us the excellent James voice. And I got an autoresponder, stating that he's on vacation or something like that. Hopefully, this is just a weird app store glitch. VOICE DREAM update
I find it odd that when I recently updated Voice Dream, not Writer, I had to reinstall all my voices. Really? Why do we have to go through this? Voice dream update
X there is a new update for voice dream reader. One of the new features is the ability to get files off of iCloud drive. What is not at all clear to me is how one might get those files onto my club Drive. I would like to back up my book share library to iCloud drive. Does anyone know if this is possible, and if so how. I haven't seen any mention of this, but yesterday afternoon, the update to Voice Dream Reader that fixes down loading directly into folders came out. He also fixed the problem of the app closing upon the first launch after the 3.0 update. He also mentioned an improvement when using iOS voices. Dubious voice dream update
I am just seeing an update from voice dream reader. It will require that you download all of your previously purchased voices, in return for avalability of some new ones, of dubious value, in my opinion, and for some supposedly minor improvements in existing voices. I plan to skip this one, unless I hear that there are substantial improvements to the existing voices that I already have. A cappella voices are for me at least less than wonderful. It does state it very clearly on the update notes on appstore, as well as on the voice dream reader that the reason why you need to reinstall the voices because there are improvements on the voices. I'm not sure how noticeable the voice improvement, i use Will to read a crime novel today, he seems, better than before the update. Not so noticeable with James though. Another voice dream update?
I just went into the App Store and discovered a voice dream update. The size is seeming to be the same as the one I downloaded yesterday. The version number on this one is 4.01. The update description is the same long one that was present yesterday. There is nothing new here mentioned in that description. Is anyone else seeing another update? This is not a joke. Go in to the app store. Click on updates. It's a minor inconvenience at worst. You install the update, open the app, tap Settings > Manage Voices, and download the ones you want. No big deal. Took me like thirty seconds to re-download my voices again. Nothing dubious about it. Of course, some of the new voices on my end at least gave me an error message when trying to play the samples. Spanish and English. I think I was only able to play one or two of them. I have just updated voice dream reader and writer. Reader voices newly downloaded work fine but none of my purchased voices now work on Writer at all! Yes, I'm getting the same error message when downloading samples for the new voices here too. It's a shame because I really wanted to hear how Ashley from Neospeech sounds. Also, I'm disappointed that the new Sharon voice from Acapela wasn't included with the new voices. I'm using her with NVDA right now and she's the best voice Acapela has made in a long time. Mary, I'm with you. I don't like most of Acapela's voices, but once you hear Sharon's voice, you'll be blown away as I was. I kinda wonder though how Winston's getting the Acapela voices. Maybe from Assistiveware? If so, that might explain why Sharon wasn't included. I had no problem with Voice Dream Reader or Writer after updating. I rmembered that when Writer came out, you had to run Voice Dream Reader first in order for the voices to work in Writer. So, I updated Writer first, but did not open it. I then updated Reader, opened it, downloaded the two purchased voices I use the most and started reading a book. Amy, was my default voice before the update. I downloaded Amy and James after the update. When I started the book, Amy was the voice doing the reading. I then went and opened Writer, and Amy read just fine in Writer. I have had no success with purchased voices in Writer despite deleting the app and installing it again and turning phone off and on again. My newly re-downloaded purchased voices work fine in Reader and now not at all in Writer. Winston says there is a bug and he will fix it! I wrote Winston about that. I have not heard yet. I think it might be as simple as he removed one line from the original description that was left over from the beta cycle referring to "pro features that would be an inapp purchase." That was there when he thought he would be charging for iCloud sync. He removed it yesterday I believe so that may have generated the new version number. I downloaded it anyway just in case. Yes, I immediately installed the update and purchased the Kendra voice. Now I have no more use for the bookshare reading app on android. If Apple would let us use the voices in VDR for other apps, I would have no use for any android anything, but that's another topic, I suppose. On the topic of voice dream, I thought I read somewhere that it has a browser. But in going through settings, I see no reference, so I guess I am mistaken about that. I'm looking for ways to take advantage of the newly available Tatyana Russian voice which is, in my view, the best Russian synthesized speech out there at this point. Unfortunately, since bookshare has no books in Russian, it doesn't seem like this voice will be all that useful for me at this time, unless there is some way of getting Voice Dream to access websites. Hi There is a browser in VDR. Launch VDR, in the bottom left there is an ADD tab, if you tap on this you should find a tab for Web Browser. Thanks, Donna. I usually use Voice Stream reader on my iPad mini. And I have never seen the browser there. But I just looked on my phone, and it was certainly there. So I'll have to go back and find it on the iPad. My android comment was not related to a VDR for android. It is just that I have been using book share on the android Nexus seven to read some books, because I like the Kendra voice. I kind of like James for nonfiction and Kendra for novels. And now that I have that on my iPad mini, I won't be using the Nexus for any bookshare or books. I grabbed the update, and everything seemed to go smoothly, but for some reason, sampling the new voices that were added doesn't work for me. They literally don't play, and I'm just returned back to the voices page in a few seconds. Has anybody else have this problem? I'd really like to see what Emma sounds like. James Not Working in New Voice Dream Update
Hi. I just updated to the latest version of Voice Dream, and now James, the NeoSpeech voice which I purchased several weeks ago, no longer works. I tried restoring previous purchases in the app store, as well as going to Manage Voices. Apparently I'm missing something. How can I get James to work without repurchasing? Thanks. When you say the newest update, do you mean version 2.9.4? If so, I'm using it with James with no problems. Hi, I am also running Voice Dream Reader 2.9.4 with James and not having any problmes with it. I went into settings-manage voices to check if James was the voice selected and it was.
