RE: voiceover going off

2016-03-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
iOS 9 works on the 5S and also the 4S. Actually, Apple has made some very good
speed/responsiveness improvements for the 4S with the latest 9.2.1 update. I
definitely am also a believer that one should upgrade especially at this point
where iOS 9.2.1 has dealt with most of the bugs. Of course at this point one
might as well wait until the week of March 21 when Apple will release iOS 9.3.

Regards,
Sieghard

Because it still works, usually. My 5S didn't get past 8.something either...
might be the 4s now I think about it, but while it works, I just let it.

Paul, possibly because you're using a version of ios that became obsolete some
time in the 1950's, why would you insist on using
such an old version?

Paul, possibly because you're using a version of ios that became obsolete some
time in the 1950's, why would you insist on using such an old version?

RE: voiceover going off

2015-12-06 Thread Paul Roberts
Hi Sieghard and thanks for your helpful mesage.

Not sure that the volume was or has been the issue when this problem has
arisen, however your second suggestion sounds worth looking at.

The only reason I never upgrade when the new IOS comes in as there seems to be
so many bugs and I only updated to 8.3, once the initial version 8 bugs had
been ironed out.

I had thought version 9.2 had come out but wil updae I htink within the next
week or so.

Thanks again for your help.

Paul.

Hi Paul,

Is it possible that you experience a situation where Voiceover volume drops all
the way down to zero and while you think Voiceover is not running it is in fact
working fine but there is just no volume? One way to check this is to plug in a
headset when this happens. Headset volume is separate from speaker volume and
in many cases when this happens and speaker volume drops to 0 headset volume is
still up and you can hear Voiceover just fine as soon as you plug in a headset.

Alternatively, you can press the home button to display the lock screen, then
do a 2-finger swipe up which starts reading the lock screen and right away
after you do the swipe press the volume up button multiple times. If it is a
volume issue this should start raising the volume to where you can hear it
again.

If it is not a volume issue, then doing a hard reset by pressing the power
button together with the home button for about 8 seconds may get you back up
and running without sighted help.

I also would suggest that you upgrade to the latest version of iOS 9. Even the
8.4.x series of updates resolved several Voiceover bugs if I remember
correctly. You may of course have your own reason why you continue to run 8.3,
but while there are still bugs, iOS 9.1 now (less than 3 months after the first
release of iOS 9) is in my opinion better than any version of iOS 8 ever was. I
expect 9.2 to be released publically any time now, they pushed out betas for
iOS 9.2 almost once a week and I think 9.2 is now up to Beta 5, but there
hasn’t been a new beta in 2 weeks or so and I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw
the public release of 9.2 next week.

Re: voiceover going off

2015-12-06 Thread Arnold Schmidt
When voice over goes off, have you tried the three-finger double tap to see if
it comes back on? If it comes back on and says speech on, somehow, it
interpreted something you did as a three-finger double tap and turned itself
off. You can do this three-finger double tap, on purpose, and it will say
either speech off, or on, depending. The only time I use it now is when I am
wanting to do a voice search in the updated google search app. For whatever
reason, after I say hey google and am asking it something, Voice Over sometimes
says cancel button and confuses google. If I do the three-finger double tap to
turn off voice over before I say hey google, then things are fine.

if it would activate but when I asked if the phone was on, they said it was
and that it was ready to unlock.

Well I got them to unlock but of course had to get them to enter my pass
code. As the screen looked normal, I got them to go to settings, general,
accessibility and then tap on voiceover.

Once done, Voiceover was back to normal and on checking the tripple tap of
the home keky, that was stil working.

This is the first time i've had to actually switch voicever back on after a
glitch and am somewhat baffled as to how this hapend in the first place.

The other thing is that these sorts of glitches tend to happen, either when
i'm say in work, or out locally or away in another area and so I'm wondering
if there's something in settings which I need to look at and possibly
change, so as to stop such glitches from happening.

any thoughts on the above would be most welcome.

Regards

Paul.

Paul, possibly because you're using a version of ios that became
obsolete some time in the 1950's, why would you insist on using such an
old version?

RE: voiceover going off

2015-12-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Regards,

Sieghard
