Re: what do these do?

2015-02-12 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I'm not running one of these new fangled iPhones, so I haven't used
these apps myself. Based on the discussions on this list, though blind
people are definitely using Pages successfully. I've also heard people
reporting mixed success with Numbers. I haven't heard that any blind
people are using iMovie or Keynote. I don't miss these apps myself, but
I don't really do much word processing on my smart phone. I can't really
say if they'd be of use to others. I'd think that would depend on how
much you need or want to do any word processing or working with spread
sheets on your smart phone.

These used to be paid apps that Apple is now including with newer
iPhones. I think this started with the iPhone 5 or the iPhone 5s. iMovie
allows you to record and organize your movie collection. The other three
apps are part of Apple's office suite, Pages for documents, Numbers for
spread sheets and Keynote for presentations. Note you can easily find
more information on all of or any of these apps with a quick search on
Google or in the App Store.

RE: what do these do?

2015-02-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Simon,

Others already explained what these apps do. The thing is that if you haven’t
had a need for fancy word processing, doing spreadsheets or presentations on
your iPhone you really don’t need them. In any case, Pages is accessible, but
not really all the way accessible. I doubt you would use iMovie and I don’t
even know if it can be used to its full potential with Voiceover just because
the nature of video editing is visual. Also keep in mind that all 4 apps take
up probably a Gig and a half or more of space. I believe iMovie alone is
between 600 and 700 Mb and the other 3 are all at least a couple of hundred Mb.
As I said, unless you have a specific need to use them I would just delete
them. Unlike other stock apps like Tips, Stocks, Weather and so on, these apps
can be deleted and you can always download any one of them again if you find
you need it.

Regards,

Sieghard

Pages=MS'Word, Numbers=XL, Keynote=Frontpage or the MS'presentation type app
that now escapes me. iMovie is self-explanintory really. I shovel all that
under utilities, or create another obscure folder to hide them in.
