That's a good point.  No, VNC Viewer for Java has a couple of useful
improvements.  The java archive (vncviewer.jar) is now signed, which means
that under the Sun Microsystems JVM it can be used to connect to host other
than the one it was served from, and that it can deal directly with the
clipboard, for example.

Something for the to-do list...

VNC Free Edition 4.1 is a major overhaul of the previous VNC 4.0
release, benefitting from the significant stability and performance
improvements made in the development of VNC Enterprise Edition

New Features & Improvements vs VNC Free Edition 4.0:
- New support for "?" (Query) action in the Hosts (Access Control)
parameter. 
- New support for disabling idle timeouts, by setting IdleTimeout to zero.
- Improved support in ZRLE for large desktops.
- Improved handling of log files.
- Improved anti-brute-force measures.

New Unix Features & Improvements vs VNC Free Edition 4.0:
- New support for the QueryConnect option.
- Xvnc supports the X backing store, which is now enabled by default.
- Several important bug-fixes (see release notes for details).

New Windows Features & Improvements vs VNC Free Edition 4.0:
- New support for only querying the local user if they are logged on.
- New support for automatically reconnecting to servers.
- New support for direct pass-through of special Windows keys.
- Connection attempts may now be cancelled via the Viewer's Connecting
dialog.
- Improved VNC Hooks and polling implementations. 
- Several important bug-fixes (see release notes for details).

description about update for Java viewer in neither release notes nor
download page. Does Java viewer keep the same with previous v4.0?
