RE: dynamic desktop resizing
Henning, Dynamic desktop resizing is where the viewer will resize if the server's display is resized, without requiring you to reconnect. Scaling is a separate feature. The documentation disagrees. http://www.realvnc.com/v4/winvncviewer.html "VNC Viewer 4 supports dynamic resizing of the VNC Server desktop. If dynamic resizing is not supported by both viewer and server then changes to the dimensions of the remote desktop may cause the VNC connection to be closed. Dynamic desktop resizing may be disabled if it causes problems on your system." It allows you to change resolutions on the host without closing the VNC connection. -- William Hooper ___ VNC-List mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] To remove yourself from the list visit: http://www.realvnc.com/mailman/listinfo/vnc-list
dynamic desktop resizing
Hi all, I am new to the list. The VNC Viewer Version 4.0 has a feature called dynamic desktop resizing. I think it is an equivalent to the scaling feature of former versions. I switched on the feature before I connected to the server but I can't get it to work. Does anybody know how I get this feature to work? I am using a Win2003 Server Standard Edition and Win2k Client. These combos are actually for XF86. Even if you managed to pass them to VNC server, I don't think it's useful. I think the resolution is fixed. After reading more about X I found that the key combination CTRL-ALT-<-> or CTRL-ALT-<+> changes the screen resolution on the fly. However, I can't seem to pass this key combination from windows client to the VNC desktop running on a linux machine. I've tried various suggestions on the list of sending CTRL using the VNC menu and holding down other keys but this doesn't work. Any way to do this? RE: dynamic desktop resizing
Dear Teng-Fong and List: Thank you for your reply. So then my questino boils down to is there anyway to change the screen size dynamically on a linux system which is the server of this VNC? As you noted below this is easy on windows, but not obvious on linux. I am running redhat 8.0. There is a system setting called display, but its setting corresponds to screen 0 not the current screen. Also changing it can only be done by root and making changes results in a message that changes were written to the XF86Config file and X display must be restarted, which is what I'm trying to avoid on VNC. Any suggestions? RE: dynamic desktop resizing
First of all, you have to know that VNC client window reflects server machine's screen resolution, not the other way round. If your server machine can't support such a resolution, you can't have it. On the other hand, resolution in server isn't changed according to client window size. You have to do this as if you're sitting in front of the server machine, ie, for Windows, you right click on the desktop and choose properties and then change resolution, etc, etc, etc > -Message d'origine- > De : Darren Gitelman [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Envoyi : mardi 1 juin 2004 02:56 > @ : [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Objet : dynamic desktop resizing > > Dear VNC list: > > I am a new user to version 4 and I don't understand how to get the > desktop to resize. Dear VNC list: I am a new user to version 4 and I don't understand how to get the desktop to resize. If I start VNC without any options the desktop is 1024x768. Then I might switch to a bigger monitor and would want a desktop that is 1280x1024, or vice versa. How do I do this? Sorry if this is listed somewhere, but I have looked through the mail list and documentation and seem to have missed this. Darren __ Do you Yahoo!? Friends. Fun. Try the all-new Yahoo!
